Janice Cretton is a local girl born and raised right on this property. She and her husband Dan have raised their 6 children here too, and they were homeschooled by Janice for 9 years. She has lived most of her life on this property.
Dan and Jan are now grandparents, and enjoying their 2 little granddaughters who live on the Big Island.
They have a wealth of information to share with you about their precious island. All you have to do is ask. They also would love to fellowship and pray with you, as God leads.
Janice Cretton purchased this house in 1948
Janice's parents purchased this property in 1948 when she was just 6 months old. She and her 3 brothers and sisters were raised here, and there were many precious memories created here. Then Dan and Jan and their 6 children also lived on this property to create even more wonderful memories. This will always be home to their children, and hopefully, home to their grandchildren as well.
After our 6 children were grown and on their own, we decided it was time to build a new home. The termites were tired of holding hands to hold our old home up!! So 2 years ago, we decided to not feed anymore termites by building a termite-proof bamboo home! We love the idea that it is 'green' and eco-friendly, and at the same time, warm and inviting. The woven bamboo walls and high bamboo-studded ceiling create a tropical island atmosphere that is unique and relaxing. We invite you to come and enjoy our home with us on your visit to Maui!
It was my 69th birthday, and I was greeted with true aloha from Janice!!! There on the bamboo wall was a "Happy Birthday Jesus and Jana" sign!!! How blessed I am to be staying at Bamboo Heaven Maui!!! My Blue Room is decorated with great quality and beauty. Janice was always bringing fresh fruit, and offering to wash our clothes. Her loving smile was like the rainbows you see from our lanai as we drank in the beauty of the palm trees swaying and the blue ocean!!! Bamboo Heaven in a hidden treasure of Maui!!!
Janice was an excellent hostess! She attended to all our needs and was very conscientious and thoughtful during our two day stay. We appreciated the very well-stocked refrigerator, fruit from the garden, and home-made banana bread. We had a great time sampling the sugar cane and cracking open a coconut. Bamboo Heaven was a great place to spend our anniversary! The B&B is conveniently located 10 minutes from the quaint town of Paia and is also at the northern end of the Road to Hana. We would highly recommend this B&B - you won't be disappointed!

This is a wonderful place to stay. Janice was a great hostess. We had a yummy breakfast every day. My Husband and I would highly recommend her B&B. It is like being in heaven.
Exceptionally warm, welcoming B&B in an idyllic tropical garden. Breakfast items thoughtfully provided in room: fresh fruit, cereals, eggs etc. An unusually peaceful and relaxing stay. Many thanks Janice.
We fully enjoyed our time with Janice in the Bamboo-Heaven home she has made available. Her warm and welcoming nature, the location and uniqueness of a structure made of bamboo was both interesting from a design and pleasant to be in. The home is located a beautiful setting on land that has banana trees, coconut trees, fresh fruit all growing. And then there’s Janice! What a special lady. She loves Jesus, and loves to love people. In addition to being a wonderful hostess, she also introduced us to the hula, harvesting of bananas and coconuts, sugar cane along with and many of the fruits growing on her property. All the while taking pictures and making memories.
The location of the property worked perfect for us as we were planning on spending a lot of time exploring the Road to Hana in the week we stayed there, and Bamboo-Heaven was positioned in a perfect place to do so. We made the trip to Hana 3 times the week we were there (one trip all the way around .... shhh, don't tell the rental company). We also had a pleasant surprised at one of the nearby beaches where we were able to watch the sun-set, surfers and sea turtles all from a comfortable place on the beach. Yup, over 40 turtles came up to sleep in safety at night, with rumors of nights with well over 100 turtles coming up on the beach sand.
I would strongly recommend this place to stay, both in the room, and especially in the person of Janice.
Janice, Thank you for a wonderful week …. And remember …Jesus Loves You Too !! :-)

Janice is a very attentive and thoughtful host, and the two apartments are equipped with everything travelers might need. The suites and the adjoining house are constructed out of Vietnamese bamboo panels - very solid construction level modular components - that give the rooms an Asian feel. The private terraces to the rear have an ocean view over the large property, which has been in Janice's family for many years. There are a number of fruit trees and guests receive generous shares of the produce including avocados, guavas, coconuts, tangerines, grapefruits and more.
We found the location near Haiku perfect, as the roads in that part of Maui are not as congested as they are closer to the airport. We enjoyed the convenience of the excellent market, food trucks, shops and restaurants in Haiku. You are practically on the road to Hana, and it's an easy drive to see upcountry sights and visit some great nearby beaches. Janice had great advice about where to go, and when, and we benefitted from her insider perspective.
The units are close together. We were not bothered by noise, though we did hear the three kids from Taiwan staying beside us get up early one morning (probably to see the sunrise from the top of the volcano). Just saying this is a more personalized experience than a faceless condo, which we appreciated since Maui can feel touristy. The comments in the guest book indicated that everyone from surfers to retirees had a good time there, as did we.
Our stay at Bamboo Heaven was really good! The property was clean, there was plenty of storage for our stuff, (we stayed 10 days) and there was lots to choose from for breakfast makings. We also used the beach umbrella, the beach chairs, and cooler provided by Janice. Every day there was fresh fruit to pick and Janice even had us chop down a banana tree. Her advice about places to go was valuable as we explored the North Shore and saw things we had not expected to see, especially since we had not done anything on that side of the island before. Jaws surf break, Ho'okipa Beach, the Hana Highway, Pa'ia, and Makawao were close by, along with great scenery everywhere. Janice has a great sense of humor and we enjoyed her very much--a good hostess indeed! If you are planning to stay on the North Shore and looking for a quiet, comfortable place that is still close to many sites, I would sure consider Bamboo Heaven!
We are located 7 min. away from Hookipa Beach Park, the windsurfing capital of the world, and famous surf and kite-surfing spot. You will experience a real treat by driving there for the beautiful sunset, and watching about 30 turtles swimming to shore to rest!! About 10 minutes in the other direction is Jaws, known for its huge waves that surfers tackle with the aid of jet skis. Also in this area is Twins Falls, where you can hike to waterfalls, and cool off in the refreshing pools. Haiku is also the home of Haleakala Bike Company, who takes you up to the volcano for sunrise, then allows you to bike down the mountain back to Haiku on your own. There is also Northshore Ziplines for an exciting adventure through the tropical forests of Haiku. A local bus line is only a few minutes away that will take you downtown for a couple dollars, if you are tired of driving. All the other towns on Maui are within an hour's drive away from our rental, except for Hana, which is more than a 2-hour dive. We are in the heart of Haiku town within walking distance to restaurants and businesses, but on a private almost 2-acre property that feels like you are away from all the hustle and bustle of life. You will enjoy this relaxing quiet atmosphere after a day at the beach or sightseeing. This tropical island retreat amidst God's beautiful creation will fill you with peace, love, joy, and strength for your next adventure on Maui!
