About Martha Boston

Martha and Peter are delighted to welcome you to their beautiful island retreat. Peter is originally from Miami, Florida, and Martha from Austin, Texas. They relocated to St. Croix after a year of cruising the Caribbean aboard their 40-foot sailboat Lightheart. At every island they asked each other: “Could you imagine us living here?” Only on St. Croix did the answer come back yes. Absolutely, enthusiastically yes!

Peter had a stellar 26-year career as an attorney, practicing primarily in Sarasota, Florida. His greater love, however, was his sailboat racing career which took him all over the world gathering championships and training younger sailors. Peter has also been a commercial and test pilot, lifeguard on Miami Beach, firefighter, school teacher and personal life coach. He currently is thrilled to be taking charter clients for daysailing trips around St. Croix and extended cruising trips on Lightheart, as well as teaching sailing through his association with the American Sailing Association.

Martha practiced law in Austin for a few years, but the bulk of her career has been as a facilitator of personal growth and professional development experiences for both individuals and business clients. She has done much of her work in experiential “adventure learning” environments from sailboats to mountain tops; and she also loves delighting her business clients with extraordinarily effective business meetings delivered in the context of an island vacation. Martha offers personal life coaching and executive coaching island retreats, and also coaches via telephone and internet from her breezy tropical perch on a hill overlooking the Caribbean.

Why Martha Boston chose Chenay Bay

We searched the entire island, but knew the instant we saw this property that it had what we wanted. The views and easy access to the sea were paramount, but the bones of a great home were present too. We developed - and continue to develop the property to reflect our values of beauty, privacy, peace, comfort, convenience, and harmony with nature. If that’s what you’d like as your base from which to explore all that St. Croix has to offer, we think you've just found your place too.

What makes this apartment unique

We love the short walk to several contiguous beaches, the easy access to the marina and to Christiansted, the peace, quiet and friendliness of our neighborhood, the sound of the surf lulling us to sleep, the constant trade breezes coming through our windows, and the expansive views of the Caribbean Sea. We love living in concert with nature and her gifts, conserving and contributing however we can.

Children are welcome, but will require close supervision by you. Our retreat is designed and furnished with adults in mind, and is by no means child-proofed. Our dog is large and rambunctiously friendly, with free access to the pool area, so children not accustomed to big dogs might be uncomfortable. We require double the security deposit for children under 18.

Lovely property

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I stayed here during the first week of March. We are not the typical renters for this property, as this was our third year on St. Croix and had already been on the island for five weeks before we moved in here. We were not able to extend our stay at the condo which we had leased for the previous five weeks. That being said, it was a lovely spot to wind down and finish our six week stay. The view was better than expected, and there was a nice breeze. The patio was a nice spot for a meal or cocktails. The unit is very clean and just as shown in the photos. The reason I give it a four star rating, rather than five stars, is because the walk to the beach is a bit longer than anticipated...about a 10-12 minute walk, coming uphill on the return. Also, the chairs shown in the photo do not belong to the condo, but seem to be neighborhood chairs. If you are not first on the beach, you won't have a chair. As we are both 70 years old, we do not do well with beach mats. I would much rather have a portable beach chair for taking to other beaches rather than a mat. One other note...if you rent a small car (as we did), be careful exiting the driveway, as we scraped the bottom of the bumper every time we left the unit. On the plus side, it is very close to restaurants and other beaches.

Owner's Response: I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay here. I guess for some the walk to the beach IS a bit longer - we make it in under 5 minutes, but everyone is different. As you know, the retreat is not a condo, nor is the beach private (all beaches are public on St. Croix). The beach chairs in the photo are donated by neighbors (bless them!) and are available to all who use the beach. We DO provide portable beach chairs that are described in the welcome notebook that was on your dining table - two low beach chairs are right by the grill on the patio, and regulation-height chairs are available alongside the ice chests near the pool.

Seven days in pardise

  • 4 of 5

The accommodations were wonderful. Martha and Peter were great hosts. The weather was perfect. We typically went out exploring in the mornings and came back to relax by the pool mid afternoon. Nice secluded retreat with ocean view and yet close to town if you need anything.

Would definitely recommend this to others.

Perfect Place in Paradise

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I were very fortunate to stay with Martha and Peter. They are truly great folks who are an integral part of their community. We visited between Hurricanes Irma and Maria. At the time we arrived all of St. Croix were working to help their sister islands in a dire time of need, the Bostons included. The beauty of everyone working together tirelessly to clean up and offer aid far surpassed the natural beauty of the island and will remain with us forever. We departed on Sunday with the reality that Maria is going to be making a pass at St Croix and growing in intensity. Maria visited on Tuesday and made her mark. Time will heal her visit. When the Bostons open their doors again you should book a stay and let the magic that is St. Croix reset your soul!
