About the host
Hosted by Nicolas Piris
We’re a New York–based family who discovered this special corner where the Berkshires meet the Hudson Valley and immediately fell in love with it. What drew us to this home was its history, warmth, and the way it lets you experience the rhythm of the seasons — ski days in winter, long summer afternoons outdoors, the beautiful foliage and quieter pace of fall, and the return of green landscapes and trails in the spring. It’s also a wonderful place to spend time working remotely when life allows for it.
Part of the joy for us has been discovering just how much this area has to offer, and helping others do the same. This corner of the Berkshires and Hudson Valley has an extraordinary variety of things to explore — far more than you might expect from a small-town setting. From record stores to flower shops, from local hikes to waterfalls, and from casual dinners to world-class dining, there is always something new to find. Hudson’s fashionable boutiques, farmers markets, and scenic back roads are all part of the experience. We’re always happy to share a few favorite spots if helpful, or you can also find many of them in the house manual.

Why they chose this property
We love this area for its setting at the intersection of the Berkshires and the Hudson Valley, where the best of both regions comes together. Catamount Ski Area is just across the road and Butternut Ski Area is nearby, while Great Barrington — only about 10 minutes away — offers excellent restaurants, shops, farmers markets, and small-town charm. Hudson and Tanglewood are also an easy drive. Each season brings something special, from ski days and hiking trails to summer lakes and farmers markets. Fall is especially magical, when foliage surrounds the area and the restaurants, culture, and shops feel wonderfully unhurried. And with beautiful scenery in every direction, working from home here is a pleasure any time of year.
What makes this property unique
What makes the house special is the balance between history, comfort, and location. Originally built around 1760, the home retains the character and charm of a classic New England farmhouse while offering modern comforts that make it easy to enjoy year-round.
Inside, the layout offers a variety of spaces to gather or unwind. The living room with its stone fireplace is perfect for cozy evenings after skiing, while the kitchen and dining areas flow naturally together for meals and conversation. A separate family and movie room offers another comfortable place to relax. Upstairs, two of the bedrooms feature charming reading nooks that create quiet corners to slow down with a book.
Outdoor living is equally inviting. In warmer months, the pool, hot tub, and generous yard make it easy to spend long days outside. A semi-enclosed porch is ideal for al fresco dining, while the private deck off the primary bedroom offers a peaceful spot overlooking the lawn and mature trees.
The location also sets the home apart. Catamount Ski Area is just across the road, Butternut Ski Area is nearby, and Great Barrington is only about 10 minutes away for restaurants, shops, and farmers markets. A handful of excellent restaurants and newer local favorites are just one or two minutes from the house, offering the rare combination of feeling peaceful and secluded while still being remarkably convenient. Sitting at the intersection of the Berkshires and the Hudson Valley, the house provides easy access to skiing, hiking, lakes, culture, and dining throughout the year.
