About Barbara Donahue

I work in the field of Green Building and for two years I searched for a home to renovate and LEED certify. Between 2011 and 2012 I looked at and walked through at least 150 homes, I put in 3 offers on different homes in CT and was out bid on two and the last home was pulled off the market by the bank.

Barbara Donahue purchased this house in 2012

Why Barbara Donahue chose Shore Region

In July 2012 my husband and I vacationed in Seaside Park, NJ. We rented a two bedroom home a block from the beach. My brother and his family rented a home ocean block in Seaside Park and my parents split their time between the two homes. It was just like I remembered. Donuts from Park Bakery for breakfast. In the ocean riding the waves until lunch time and then eating lunch on the beach. Every morning my dad asks everyone what they want for lunch and wraps up each sandwich with a slip of paper with their name on it. Growing up my parents rented a bungalow in South Seaside Park. I have great memories of our week vacation at the shore every summer with my cousins. When our oldest son turned one we started renting a beach house for a week in Lavallette, NJ. Our two sons have great memories of vacationing with their cousins every summer at the Jersey shore.

In 2012 it had been seven years since we had vacationed at the Jersey shore. My brother had also not vacationed for seven years and in 2011 he rented a beach house in Seaside Park. I told him to let me know when he was going and 2012 and we would get a place too. While sitting on the beach I threw out the idea of buying a beach house to renovate. We looked in July and in September we went back for a weekend to celebrate our anniversary and look at more homes. We wanted a Seaside Park Beach House to renovate. By Sunday evening of that weekend we made an offer on 40 7th Avenue. Our closing date was set for October 29, 2012. If your not familiar with the date that is the day that hurricane Sandy hit. Several days after the hurricane I could see on google maps that the street looked fine. I was confident that the home had survived the hurricane. However, I didn’t know if the home had flooded. It took weeks before I found out that the home had not flooded. Our new closing date was set for December 7, 2012 (Pearl Harbor Day!)

The Beach House is renovated and ready for you to make memories.

What makes this house unique

7th Avenue is a wonderful neighborhood. Wednesday evenings are kite night on the beach. You can park your car and walk to everything. The amusement park is just close enough at 1.3 miles.

Everything you could need in a beach house!

  • 5 of 5

My husband, 5 year old son, our best friends and their 3 year old daughter really enjoyed our week stay here. The homes location is perfect. A five minute walk to the beach, a block from Charlie's delicious homemade ice cream and walking distance to Surf Taco (a crowd fave) Park bakery (amazing) Oceanside subs (fresh sandwiches), a liquor store and market. The house itself met all our needs when it came to cooking and cleaning. Our favorite room was the living room, where there was plenty of comfortable seating. The backyard was also a favorite hang out spot, perfect for barbecuing and kicking back. The home was also very clean which we all appreciated. Overall, we have no complaints and had an extremely memorable vacation. Thanks for allowing us to enjoy your beautiful home Barbara!

Joanne Ward - Very happy with the house

  • 5 of 5

The house is very clean, everything we need is there and more. It is very close to the bay and the beach. Great neighborhood. And it is SO CLOSE to the Park Bakery you have to go there.

I would go back - the owner, Barbara Donahue is great.

Charming House; Great Location

  • 5 of 5

The place was well maintained, with great care taken to make sure any need or desire was attended to, before it occurred to the guest that they had a need or desire. You walk into the kitchen and feel ready for a mug of tea. You see the ample sitting room seating and you hope for a rainy day so you can listen to the rain and read for a few hours. Or you could go to enclosed porch if you feel like doing all three.

Not only that, but the beach is a max of 5 minutes away! Kids could go easily from house to sand to outdoor attached shower to house and never bother their parents.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to review 40 on 7th Ave. The seating for 10 in the living room is really a surprise for my renters. From the outside it looks small. I am happy you enjoyed your stay and hope you plan another vacation to Seaside Park, NJ in the future and choose to stay at 40 7th again.
