About Lisa Thostenson

Our family has always had a home in Florida somewhere. My grandparents had a hotel on the east coast when I was a kid. We have always enjoyed Florida so much. My husband and I began to visit Marco Island, and we fell in love with the place! We looked for a home for over 2 years before we found the perfect spot. We were very picky about the location, and the placement of the home on the lot. The home was a TON of work to remodel, but we are so happy with the way it turned out.

Lisa Thostenson purchased this house in 2013

Why Lisa Thostenson chose Marco Island

This home is in the perfect spot on Marco Island. It is across the street from Esplanade where there is a Starbucks and other restaurants and shopping. Just the perfect distance for a quick morning walk to grab a coffee. You can rent a home on the water and if it faces the wrong direction - you won't have sun at your pool or in your windows. This home is perfectly positioned. It has all the best of everything you could want in a vacation home.

What makes this house unique

We have many large screen TVs in the home, and Wi-Fi too. We also have bikes to ride around the island. This property is so perfectly positioned to be able to walk to just about any place you could want to go! We have a beach wagon and chairs for your enjoyment.

It is hard to see in the photos, but there are 5 sets of sliding glass doors that go out to the water. The 2 sets from the family room and living room to the lanai are 'pocket doors' - so they totally go into the wall and the entire area opens up to the outdoors. It is spectacular and makes the living space huge and open.

Plenty of room, great location

  • 5 of 5

Our family loved our stay. Lisa was highly communicative and quickly responded to questions. The canal in back was a great place for the kids to fish, and see the occasional dolphin. Location close to grocery and restaurants was great. House was well stocked. Definitely comfortable beds and we used the washing machine often. Could not have asked for a better house for our family and needs. Thanks Lisa!

PERFECT Beach and Pool Get Away!

  • 5 of 5

The first thing I noticed is that Lisa is an excellent communicator. Leading up to the stay, we exchanged a couple of emails on small details and her responses were thorough and almost immediate. Her communication really came in handy when we got in really late and didn't have the right code to access the door. She called me back within a few minutes and helped completely.

The house was EXACTLY as pictured, only better. It was gorgeous, clean and so spacious. The kitchen was just excellent. We cooked most meals at the house and it was easy to keep clean and big enough that everyone could be in the kitchen together and not get in the way. Fly into RSW and go to Whole Foods in Naples on the way to Marco Island. The fridge has filtered water and ice, which came in handy because it is hot in Florida in July. But the house itself was perfectly cool.

My sister-in-law and niece joined us for the last two days and it was STILL spacious and nobody got into anyone's way. The pool was so nice, and we were in it most of the days we were there. We also enjoyed the screened in lanai and watching the wildlife through the screen. The canal is right there, and we saw birds, a manatee and so many jumping fish. The wildlife highlight were the two igunas - one female and one male - that appeared around dusk each day walking along the canal. They were majestic and so much fun to watch. I know they're not native, but these two had the personalities of frolicking dogs and we really looked forward to seeing them each day.

Back to amenities - Lisa has thought of everything. There are carts to carrying things to the beach and beach toys and chairs in the garage. The first day we carried everything and parked in the wrong spot - right up front. You should know that you can park at the Tigertail beach for $8 a day, however, you will still have to walk a distance to get to the actual beach. There are no houses on the beach on Marco Island. Make sure to park in the farthest overflow parking area, then you take a path to the path to the beach. It is so worth it. The beach is gorgeous and covered in shells - COVERED! So bring water shoes because the shells hurt to walk over. And bring a shell bag because you'll want to bring some home. The water in the gulf was so warm and mostly calm. Red algae is present but we didn't really notice it and it was just wonderful to be there floating and playing in the water. Check out Dolphin Explorations Eco Tour - we loved that!

The property was very nice and close to everything, nice furniture and beds!

  • 3 of 5

We love Marco Island, the house was awesome, the pool was very small for our family, but we made due since we spent 90% of our vacation at the house because of nasty beach! We had a good time, we just wish someone would have told us about the Red Tide, and the pollution from Okeechobee Runoff, I think this should be part of the info you get about Marco Island and rentals, this ruined the beach for the whole week, we could only go to the beach to watch the sunset! That was the most important thing about going to the Island, the beautiful beach was the thing we remember the most, since it has been about 15yrs since we were there last! If you are planning on spending this much money to stay in Marco, please check with Florida Fish and Game to find out about polluted beaches in Florida, before you book anything, cannot stress that enough, because no one is going to tell you, that would ruin the rental market in Florida! Other than that everything was great, fishing off the dock in back of house and watching Dolphins swim in the river canal! House has everything you need!

Owner's Response: I am so sorry that the red tide impacted your trip! Unfortunately it happens sometimes, and nothing we can do about it as it is an act of God. This happens all over the world in all oceans - not just Marco, and it is very infrequent. Marco Island keeps their beaches very clean - as well as the whole Island. This situation was not a lot different than bad weather - at least the weather was good for you! :) I didn't even know red tide was occurring or I would have given you more ideas on excursions for your group. We are very happy that you loved the house and location. As we actually discussed before your stay - you had more than the recommended number of people we typically have in our home, but we allowed it. I can imagine if all of you were together in the pool the entire week it got a little crowded. It was disappointing to see the rating you gave us when it was an act of God that put a damper on things, but I get that it is hard to separate from the experience. We have never had a rating this low before. (don't worry - I gave you all 5 stars!) We are just glad that you loved the home and the furnishings. Hopefully next time you return to Marco you will have a great week! Thank you for your feedback!! Lisa

Fabulous Location - very lovely home!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at Mermaid Cove. We were concerned about hurricane damage - but were thrilled to arrive and see that they actually expanded their pool deck and put down new travertine marble after the storm took their pool cage down. The new screen cage is on order they said, but we didn't have any issues with bugs on the lanai at all. This home has everything you might need and then some. All of the furnishings are very nice, and the home is very tastefully decorated. You can literally walk to anything you could want to do. We went to 2 art fairs on the island within walking distance. The waterfront restaurant in the Esplanade across the street had live music. We loved that place - it is called CJs. The grocery store is 1 block away, and there was a wagon for us to bring back our purchases. We only went to the beach once, but it was AMAZING. Wide, white sand and shells galore. We just love the Island. We will be back for sure! And we hope Mermaid Cove is available for us when we return. We highly recommend it! Thanks Lisa!!

This is a beautiful vacation home, very comfortable with great furnishings and lots of space. The location is wonderful within walking distance of restaurants, groceries, and other attractions. We really enjoyed the use of the bikes. The pool is great and the view of the canal is nice. We even had a visit from a few Dolphins! The owner, Lisa is so accommodating and helpful. I would highly recommend this home. We will be returning! Thank you, Lisa for such a wonderful vacation home for us!
