About Jackie Morris
Villa Tortuga has been a dream of ours since we first got married. Well, at least the idea of owning property within close proximity of the ocean was. Being from the landlocked state of Oklahoma, our visits to the beach came in the form of family vacations, most often to Florida or Mexico. In 2011 our family decided to take our Christmas trip to Costa Rica. Immediately we fell in love with the nature, the culture, and the people. Costa Rica is unlike any place in the world. For us, it was just developed enough to be comfortable, but untouched enough to remain a idillic paradise. After 3 years of Christmas vacations spent in Manuel Antonio, our family decided to take the plunge and buy property on our favorite street! We are taking every measure possible to make this home feel like a dream vacation home, and we hope that your family will enjoy it as much as ours does!
Jackie Morris purchased this Villa in 2013
Why Jackie Morris chose Manuel Antonio
Villa Tortuga has undergone quite the facelift. While it wasn't the prettiest one on the block, we saw the potential in her. Her views are unmatched by any house on the same street. Not only that, but she is located right next door to our best friends, so it was a perfect fit for our family. In July 2014, we will be unveiling the brand new, fully renovated Villa Tortuga. Every tile, every wall, every faucet and fixture has been replaced. And while she maintains her glorious spot high upon the hill (her best feature), that's about all that remains of the former Villa. She's quite the looker now!
What makes this Villa unique
You can see the ocean from almost everyone room in the house. The house has been engineered for plenty of privacy, so while there are neighbors close by, you will feel like you are in your own private paradise.

Vrbo Bear Stay review
This is the perfect place to stay for a family with multiple levels and places to hang out. And views from every space. The tree house is the icing on the cake ! We saw monkeys, all kinds of birds, lizards and capybaras!
The staff were beyond wonderful and the food - we all want to take Didier home to be our chef! Absolutely delicious food!
Beautiful house with awesome views.
Upon arrival, received welcome drinks, a snack and tour of the property from Didier. The house was clean, and well stocked with everything (beach and bath towels, had plenty of outside seating, wifi, bluetooth speakers, Alexa, full kitchen, games, netflix, 5 gallon filtered water).
Had great deck level with pool, pool bar, table and about 8 lounge chairs. It did rain a lot when we were there so helpful that half of this deck is covered. Also had another full covered deck area that could sit about 10 people. The rain did not stop us from doing what we wanted to do. Wonderful views from all of the decks.
The staff was amazing. Hilsoda (housekeeper) kept everything clean and always had fresh beach towels. Didier (chef and concierge) was fantastic! We loved every meal! Not only the food, but the presentation - top notch. A wonderful experience having a chef. Didier booked tours for us and called cabs as needed. We could decide the night before and Didier would set everything up.
We were a party of 10 and had 1 van that fit 10 people. We did the waterfalls on our own (Uvita and other waterfall 1/2 south of Uvita). Easy drive (about 1 hour 20 mins) and only a few dollars each for all of us to go to 2 waterfalls. We stopped at Playa Hermosa beach on the way back. We also did Manuel Antonio on our own and negotiated a price for a guide. Get a guide at the park, they have telescopes and point out all of the animals that you would never see.
Other tours we did were Catamaran (boat fun and great lunch and drinks but unfortunately snorkeling not that great - probably because of weather), White Water rafting, Canopy ziplining and Monkey Mangrove.
We were close to bars, restaurants, and stores (walking distance). You do have to walk up a hill. We went to La Mariposa resort (10 minute walk) for drinks and a beautiful sunset. Went to beach a few days and sat at Mary's spot. 2 chairs, an umbrella, and a table for $12. They have waitress service for lunch and drinks. Food is very good. I stubbed my toe (ripped half my nail off) and they were nice enough to come over with a first aid kit to help me out. Beautiful beach (just watch the rocks!)
Would definitely recommend Villa Tortuga. Wonderful. But be prepared for a lot of steps. Also, bring a lot of cash. Cash is required for some of the house stuff and some tours. Also at some places, don't have to pay the 13% tax if use cash.
I'm moving to Costa Rica!
Wow wow wow. A group of 10 of us just spent 8 nights the week before Easter at Villa Tortuga. 6 adults and four kids ages 7-10. None of us had been to Costa Rica before, and now we all want to return. We had no problem filling the whole week in Manuel Antonio. The house is everything it looks like in pictures but better - the views are to die for, the treehouse at the top was great for the kids, the pool was a welcome relief every day we returned from our adventures, the landscaping beautiful. Even the kids kept remarking how amazing the house was. It was HOT and humid in April, and we are so glad we chose a house with A/C in the living room/kitchen, not just in the bedrooms. There are a lot of stairs, true, just be aware- it wasn't a problem for any of us. Didier, the chef and concierge, prepared awesome meals and arranged great outings for us. Just wait til his fish guy brings the fresh mahi mahi for dinner one night. :) He's a rock star and we loved chatting with him about Costa Rica. Hisolda, the housekeeper, is sweet and funny and kept everything beautifully clean and stocked with towels, shampoo, etc.
The location of Villa Tortuga is great. It's on a sort of private street below the main road that goes through Manuel Antonio. We could walk up to the main road and numerous restaurants and a few small grocery stores in about 5 minutes. With that, a few taxis to the beach (you can also take the bus,we were just lazy), and the fact that all the excursion companies include transportation from your house, we didn't need a car.
A few excursion notes - have Didier arrange for Rudy Guzman as your guide for the National Park tour, what an amazing person, and do the waterfall tour with Waterfalls Heaven Costa Rica. We loved Playa Ventanas, the beach you visit on the waterfall tour so much, we hired a driver and van to take all of us there another day. The night hike at Si Como No is a 10 minute walk from the house.
I can't thank you, Jackie, enough for sharing your amazing house with us - you and everyone at Villa Tortuga made this an amazing vacation.
I am so happy you can see why I love this country so much. Thanks for allowing us to be part of your families vacation. Come back anytime and see us, your group was so much fun! Jackie
This house is a gem! Absolutely the best vacation ever! Didier is a wonderful chef :)
This is a beautiful villa in the perfect location. It has the perfect space for a group to gather.
We stayed at Villa Tortuga March 2019 to attend a wedding in Quepos. We all had an amazing time! The villa is beautiful and Didier was the perfect host and chef! The villa has the perfect space for a group to gather. Didier was very helpful with scheduling our excursions and he prepared fabulous meals for us. We hope to return. Thank you!
Wow! Incredible place. Didier the chef was fantastic and really helped my for a special trip.
The villa is beautiful! Having Dider and his cooking was a first class experience and reason enough to book this place !! Jackie the owner was super great. She reached out prior to our arrival and made sure that the staff had anything we needed on our arrival. I would recommend anyone who is staying to organize a list of things you might want for the villa and Jackie and the staff will make sure you have them apon your arrival. It is awesome to have some basics already there when you arrive.
The villa it self has amazing views and is beautiful. It is close to everything.
I would not rent a car as it was much nicer to take transport from San Jose to the villa and just cab it once in Manuel Antonio.
Overall, for what you get, a chef and this amazing villa I would say it is REALLY hard to beat !! If I could rate it 6 stars I would !
A 5 minute car ride from the beach and national park. No car? No problem! A few blocks away you can catch a bus that runs regularly to the public beach!
