About the property

Stunning Mountain Views Enclose This Welcoming Retreat From The World

Lovely 1898 country estate home located in the historic Keswick area, in walking distance to Castle Hill. Turkey Run Farm is convenient to Charlottesville, but far enough away for amazing peace and quiet, and night skies. Very accessible to Monticello, Montpelier, Ash Lawn, many of the area’s most celebrated vineyards and cideries, the University of Virginia, the historic Charlottesville downtown, the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Skyline Parkway. Fantastic views of the Southwest Mountains can be enjoyed from several vantage points, complete with regular sightings of wild turkeys, albino and piebald deer and Bald Eagles. A wonderful, relaxing place to walk and ride bikes, Turkey Run Farm is a gracious and welcoming environment for family reunions, bridal party groups, smaller wedding receptions and company retreats. (There is an event charge for gatherings of greater than 20 guests, and a porta-potty requirement.)

Four private bedrooms, two full bathrooms, and living room with fireplace are located on the main floor, with a stone family room and large farm kitchen in the English basement. Front and rear porches and stone terrace offer exquisite, unsullied views of the Southwest Mountains.

It should be noted here too, that Turkey Run Farm truly is nestled into the embrace of nature. That means that our guests will be experiencing authentic rural life in contrast to an environmentally controlled hotel or in-town dwelling. This also includes some bugs in the summertime. And, like all rural properties in the mid-atlantic region the new bug on the block is the indomitable, but friendly, stinkbug. We seem to have them the worst mostly in the October time frame when they too are seeking a cozy VRBO for a long winter vacation, but a few are with all of us year round these days.

About Richard Davis, Owner, Deborah McLeod, Property Manager

Richard Davis, the owner, grew up on a horse and cattle farm in the nearby Gordonsville area. He attended Woodberry Forest school in nearby Orange, VA, and graduated from the University of Virginia. He has both worked in aviation and the space program for years and has traveled extensively. Richard has always found the Blue Ridge Mountains to be incredibly beautiful and inspiring. He spent years looking for a place in the area that met his dreams and was very excited to find Turkey Run Farm when it recently became available. He and his sister Deborah McLeod, who manages the property for him during his absences, have spent the past year restoring and furnishing it for guests as well as Richard's family's own part time use.

Richard Davis, Owner, Deborah McLeod, Property Manager purchased this farmhouse in 2013

Why Richard Davis, Owner, Deborah McLeod, Property Manager chose Central Virginia

Richard and his family tremendously enjoy the nature there, the dramatic views of the mountains, the extensive landscape plantings all around the house, a place for the children to explore nature, the amazing clear views of the night skies, the graceful presence of history in the house, and most importantly, the incredible peace and quiet of the surroundings.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Turkey Run's greatest benefit is the tranquility and privacy that can be experienced from its outdoor spaces - the terrace swing or the ease of the front porch chairs. The only sounds that can be heard are the calls of birds and the rush of the wind.

We are happy to assist our guests with contact information for that service as well as caterers. The property is located in a rural area w/o regular garbage removal service. Leaving more than one large heavy-duty contractor bag of trash per weekend (2 bags for a week-long stay) will result in a $50 trash pick up charge.

A wonderful retreat!

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect place to host our family getaway. It offered peace and quiet with beautiful scenery. It was exactly what we needed. The owner went above and beyond to be helpful and accommodating from providing food and activity recommendations to mailing an item to us that we accidentally left behind.

Bonus: this location is close to some great wineries and cideries!

Quiet escape with a beautiful view!

  • 4 of 5

My family of 5 plus my Mom just stayed at this home. We had a wonderful time. The area is absolutely beautiful and it is a nice drive into Charlottesville (20-30 min) where there is a ton to do and see (and great restaurants - two of our favs were Citizen Burger and Maya (southern cooking). The home is also close pretty close (again 30 or less) to Monticello, Montpelier, and Ash Highlawn (President homes) and they are all worth seeing! Plus there are places to go to hike as well as a bunch of wineries to visit. We also spent one morning horseback riding at Oakland Heights Farm (about 20 min away). The house is an older home that certainly needs some work, but the inside is quaint, super clean, and very welcoming. The beds were super comfortable and the kitchen was spacious and well stocked. The view from the front porch was everything you would want a view to be! I will miss having my morning coffee on that porch with that view. So peaceful! And the owner was wonderful to work with...very helpful and accommodating! If we ever visit the area again, we would absolutely stay at this property again.

Beautiful home in a beautiful setting!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our long weekend and wish we could have stayed longer! Many positives about this house: beautifully decorated, very clean, all beds are comfy, all appliances work, kitchen is large and very well stocked, heat and air work great, plenty of hot water, several comfortable seating areas with two living rooms, two porches, a deck and a patio. This house would easily work for 6 adults - maybe 8. Only two bathrooms and one is small - but they work just fine. It sits on a hill and the views are amazing. Complete privacy and very quiet - can't see any other houses from here. We took a lovely walk - just over a mile - to the nearby cider pub. Great fun. Location is great - in the middle of horse country - rolling green hills everywhere! (Go to Restaurant Pomme in Gordonsville - French food - it's fabulous!) It is a 25 minute drive to Montpelier (James Madison home - highly recommended) or a 20 minute drive to Monticello. Owner is very responsive. This house looks every bit as good as the pictures - maybe better! We will definitely return someday!

8 adults stayed for my husband's 40th birthday. The spacious home was lovely! Plenty of space for everyone. The property is pristine, gorgeous, and secluded. A perfect destination to relax and share good times with friends!

Turkey Run Farm is located in a beautiful, serene rural setting nestled into a ridge that is part of the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. There are many attractions in all directions from the farm, and much to keep guests busy, although kicking back and doing nothing at all but taking in nature may be the most perfect getaway of all. There are a number of good antique stores in the area, and countless wineries have grown up around the farm. There are several art galleries and museums. The Klughe-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Museum is about 10 miles away on Rt 250. The Fralin Museum is located in the University of Virginia campus, and is an important sight to take in. Nightlife venues abound in Charlottesville, as well as fabulous restaurants to sample a variety of fare. (The Charlottesville region is highly committed to locally grown foods and sustainable agriculture and emphasizes that on menus.) There are many wonderful hikes to take along the Blue Ridge. Old Rag Mountain is a big favorite, but there are other trails that include waterfalls and other unique features. A half hour drive to Scottsville will provide an opportunity to rent rafts or canoes to navigate the waters of the James River. Another half hour drive to Boars Head offers a chance to go Hot Air Ballooning. With a slightly longer drive to Waynesboro, one can try out flight in a glider plane. The farm itself offers space for more intimate private events on its grounds and interior spaces, but for grander events, Castle Hill Cider and Keswick Hall are located conveniently right down the road.
