About Marilyn McEwen & Lance Blackwell

We moved here to Ucluelet from Vancouver in 1997, and added the one-bedroom suite in 2007.

Marilyn McEwen & Lance Blackwell purchased this house in 1997

Why Marilyn McEwen & Lance Blackwell chose Ucluelet

We loved the idea of a waterfront property, having lived on a floathome in Vancouver for 11 years prior to moving here. The half acre property allows us to maintain privacy for ourselves & our guests. The West Coast of Vancouver Island has a rugged beauty that is unmatched anywhere else in B.C.

What makes this house unique

There is always something to watch on the waterfront -- fishboats coming & going, sea lions frolicking, bald eagles fishing, kayakers meandering by.

We love Ucluelet!

  • 5 of 5

First impression was hard to beat as there were river otters frolicking on the neighbors dock when we arrived. The place we stayed at was a one-bedroom mother-in-law apartment in the lower level of the main house. It had ample space for the two of us and enjoyed a view of Ucluelet inlet which has lots of boating action throughout the day. The property also has two single room cabins a little lower on the bank. Marilyn and Lance were great hosts. I think we eventually did every thing that she recommended.

Ucluelet is a great little town with good restaurants and the Wild Pacific Trail. I think that trail was the second most scenic "easy" trail I have ever been on. (Number one is in the Cinque Terre on the Italian coast). We visited Tofino, but didn't like it nearly as much as Ukee, as the locals call it.

We highly recommend booking here.

Relaxing and calming.....

  • 4 of 5

The property is very scenic and very close to the water. Comfy bed and warm fire place to cozy up to. Was incorrectly informed about a hid a bed, however didn’t exist. Would definetly stay again with 2 people only in a cabin. Beware of the hot tub......no support around the outside, and I had a bit of a fall off..... ouch!

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review! We have never had a hide-a-bed in the suite, only a big comfy couch where a third person has slept from time to time. We specialize in romantic get-aways, so no children but pets are welcome. Hope it was a fun girls trip all the same!

Fantastic time!! Right on ocean. All amenities close by and accessible. Owners are awesome and were always willing to help if needed. We had an amazing time.

Would give 5 heart rating if we could swim in ocean from front of property.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review! You can certainly swim in the ocean in front of our property -- we've had several guests lately that have! A little too cold for me, but perfect for others :)

Well situated in Ucluelet, close to all attractions.

  • 3 of 5

Adequate in every way - while comfortable, we felt that the room looked a little dated and tired. The room had everything we needed for our stay and the breakfast left for us in the fridge was just what we needed. Unfortunately because pets are allowed the room smelled quite strong when we arrived.

Our hosts were very welcoming and informative about where to go and what to do in Ucluelet. They had the hot tub all ready to use.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review! We are constantly updating the amenities in both cabins & the suite; just last week we replaced the mattress in Cabin 2 and replaced the duvets in Cabin 2 and the suite, as well as the area rugs in front of the kitchenettes in both cabins. We do an extra deep clean after pets have been staying, so not sure what the smell was attributed to, possibly the hot weather brought it out.

We had a lovely restful stay at Anchor’s Inn and found it a good place to come and go from as we toured Ucluelet and Tofino. Overall, We had a good stay, I enjoyed the hot tub after a long day hiking. Laundry facilities would of been good,

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review! Our laundry machines are extremely busy during the summer months with sheets & towels, we have almost no empty nights in any of our 3 units for a good 4 months. There is, however, a great Laundromat just a few blocks away at Davison Plaza.

Very enjoyable, comfortable and well located to enjoy the surrounding area

  • 5 of 5

The accommodation was excellent, with amenities that suited our stay and allowed us to come and go as we pleased. It is located on a waterfront site, with bald eagles frequenting the neighbouring tree. During our time we enjoyed local hikes, including the Pacific Trail, part of which is readily accessible from the accommodation. We also booked to go to Hot Springs Cove with Ocean Outfitters in Tofino, an excellent company and an enjoyable boat trip. During the excursion we were privileged to see grey and humpback whales, sea otters, seals, dolphins and porpoises. I have no hesitation in thoroughly recommending Anchors Inn, the owners have done a great job of making a very comfortable accommodation.
