About the property

Location location... magnificent vistas north to the Grenadine Islands

Summerhill Bed + Beyond is a breathtaking escape like none other. It joins a growing trend of upscale Caribbean getaways focused on eco-tourism, allowing our guests to enjoy 2.5 acres of tropical organic gardens and spectacular ocean vistas; albeit with a touch of luxury.

Set high atop Bedford Point with stunning sea views Summerhill features a private villa 2BB and separate 2BB guest house each with private balconies perched cliffside along our two thousand feet of Atlantic shoreline just steps away from your front door. Architecture and furnishings have been carefully selected to maintain the West Indian style and atmosphere which is sadly becoming a thing of the past. Louvered windows throughout create a cooling breeze with undisturbed 360 degree views. Completely renovated in 2012 Summerhill offers all the amenities of home. Family operated, with an emphasis on informality ensures a relaxed and comfortable vacation in true West Indian fashion. Summerhill boasts an oversize sweet water pool, comfortable mahogany day beds and a stone BBQ on the pool deck.

Enjoy the sun-drenched day at Summerhill, offering uncomprimising privacy sandwiched between two of Grenada's finest beaches. A private path leads our guests to Levera beach only 5 minutes away. Swim in the turquoise waters, snorkel the pristine reefs of Sandy Island, surf fish for the elusive bonefish and in season (March-August) watch the giant leatherback turtles as they migrate in large numbers back to Levera are only a few activities one may enjoy. Within easy walking distance is Bathway Beach, a calm and protected by coral reef swim area. Experience the true island culture where families enjoy cookout weekends, soca music and local activities. Belmont Estate and the Grenada Chocolate Factory, Rivers Rum, River Sallee boiling spring, and sleepy Sauteurs are only minutes away by car. Situated in the tropical rainforest is Mount St Catherine Grenada's highest peak with numerous waterfalls and hiking trails only a short distance away.

We recommend that guests use the services of a local driver. If you chose to rent a transport, ample parking is provided on our gated property. Local mini bus service is also available and we would be more than happy to help you along with your Grenadian itinerary.

Daily housekeeping is included as is wifi service.

Summerhill offers a Caribbean style full breakfast on our northern veranda overlooking Levera beach and the Grenadine Islands. All our meals feature locally grown fruits, veges, and spice from our own organic gardens on the property. A cornucopia of tropical fruits, herbal teas from our mountain forests and local specialties such as johnny cakes, ackee and salt fish,or coconut bakes are just a few tastes you will enjoy. Retire to the comforts of Summerhill in the evening, sip on a cold libation of your choice as we prepare for you a gourmet supper served under the stars. Freshly caught mahi mahi, snapper and tuna frequent our menus alongside seasonal veges from our organic garden. Feel for a local dish, let us serve you a traditional oildown, goat curry or steamed lambi. Organic wines too!

About Michael A Rossy

Yasmin and Michael are certified organic farmers from Canada. Operating Runaway Creek Farm a 350 acre mixed organic farm in Arundel Quebec since 1995 we have decided to slow down just a bit and change the pace in Grenada. We love the land, nothing gives us more satisfaction than to grow our own food and above all we love people thus the evolution of Summerhill Bed + Beyond.

Michael A Rossy purchased this villa in 2010

Why Michael A Rossy chose Grenada

Summerhill met all our criteria for purchasing a property on the spice island. A fertile countryside location away from the crowds, the very best views in Grenada's north and a magnificent home to welcome guests and family, make Summerhill the unknown gem of Levera. We love absolutely everything about Grenada its people and culture.

What makes this villa unique

Hiking one sun drenched day from Sauteurs to Bathway Beach we discovered the Levera recreational area featuring Levera beach, pond and wildlife reserve. As we made our way down the old Levera road and stepped on to the untamed and pristine Levera beach Summerhill's baked red West Indian roof tiles came into view. There was no need to say more as both Yasmin and I knew then this would be our home away from home. We only would like to share it with you.

A Little Heaven on Earth

  • 5 of 5

What a marvellous escape from the mundane! Fabulous views of the coast and nearby islands, surrounded by some of the most beautiful plants and flowers. The accommodations are delightful, island style but with all conveniences, and the peaceful sounds of the ocean surf and the wind are lulling.

We had a wonderful week lounging in and around the pool, walking on the beaches, swimming in the sea, and generally relaxing.

Loved Michael's inventive and delicious cocktails and dining al fresco, sumptuous meals prepared by Yasmin. In fact, meals at Summerhill must be as healthy as they are appealing since we ate heartily and richly, but managed not to gain any weight!

Anything you want to know about the area, anything you want to see or do, just ask!

Highly recommended!

Memorable and Delightful

  • 5 of 5

Located in northeastern of Grenada, at a confluence of the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea, Summerhill is a destination for all tastes. The villa is located at the top of a hill at the Northern part of the island, with 270-degree spectacular and expansive views of the ocean. The premises are beautiful, colourful, welcoming and comprehensive and the villa and guesthouses are beautiful, tasteful, clean and all with incredible views.

This is a place for all kinds of travelers, from those looking for a remote getaway, to those looking for adventure and action. Levera Beach can be reached on foot - about 3-5 minutes walk downhill, receiving surf from two directions, the Atlantic and Caribbean. From March to August the magnificent leatherback turtles come in numbers to lay their eggs. Also nearby, Bathway Beach (approximately 15 minute walk) offers a taste of local Grenada; the friendly beach bars just steps away from the reef-protected waters. Chat with a fisherman or the local elected representative about the weather or the rum or whatever, and get a taste of how friendly this island is. The nearby town of Sauteurs is a pleasant hour-long walk along beach, trail and road to a nice lunch opportunity. For a bigger adventure, a hike through the rainforest to a 2700ft peak or to various lovely waterfalls and lakes is easily accessible, and to get out on the water is a truly spectacular availability.

Summerhill is beautifully remote. Without a car and/or with teenagers, families need to be ready to hit the ground running, and with the help of the hosts, book the activities for your stay. Be prepared for some hilly and twisty car or bus rides to get you to more populated areas of the island. It would be nice if there were a little more opportunity to enjoy the water directly from the property, maybe kayaks available for rent to help with exploration of the immediate area.

The best part of our visit was the casual and lovely attention and conversation of our hosts, Michael and Yasmin. Michael's impressive and informative knowledge of the island combined with Yasmin's superb and healthy menu using local, often organic, creative, varied and delicious ingredients punctuated what was a terrific vacation.

Voyage idyllique à Summerhill chez Michael et Yasmin

  • 5 of 5

A Diamond in the Rough. A Hidden Gem. You found it!

  • 5 of 5

I assume you have read the description of Summerhill on the website. Let me begin this review by saying it understates the beauty, the tranquility, the sense of privacy you will enjoy both at Summerhill and on the island of Grenada. Grenada is the 9th place I have traveled to in the Caribbean, and so far, the best. The people are friendly and gracious. From the tropical rainforests atop the mountains to the crystal clear waters filled with colorful fish, the island is breathtaking. With so many things to see and do, you couldn’t cover them all in 10 trips. If you are looking for a cruise ship environment on land, Summerhill is not your place. If you are like me and my fiancée seeking romantic secluded upscale boutique hotels/villas with amazing dining experiences and a place to do your own thing on your own schedule, you won’t find a better place in the Caribbean than Summerhill.

The pictures of Summerhill and the surrounding area do not accurately portray what you will see and feel. It is exponentially better in person. How people describe Yasmin and Michael along with Yasmin’s cooking in the reviews does not do them justice. You must experience it to appreciate what wonderful people and gracious hosts they are and what an incredible gourmet cook Yasmin is. Add the dinner option!!! You won’t be disappointed. I would put Yasmin’s seafood dishes up against any of the chefs’ cooking we experienced during trips along the Adriatic and Mediterranean coasts. Don’t worry about lunch. You will still be full from breakfast when dinner time rolls around. From local bakeries (there is nothing like the fresh breads from YY’s wood-fired brick oven) to Doliver’s art studio (we bought a beautiful portrayal of Grenadian culture) to tagging along for a trip to St. Georges, Yasmin and Michael will help you experience the local culture if you so choose. When not bumming a ride, we walked to nearby Sauteurs and the two local beaches. We also drove our rental car to a gorgeous black sand beach at Black Bay to go snorkeling in the pristine waters along the west shore. If you are concerned about driving on the left, it is a piece of cake. Just pay particular attention at the round-a-bouts and when making turns.

I have one major concern about Summerhill…competing with you for booking future dates now that you have found this 5-Star Diamond in the Rough on the internet. To quote Arnold Schwarzenegger in The Terminator, “I’ll be back!"
