Historic, beautiful ranch on Tomales Bay, w/ 4 bd, 2 ba, tons of amenities.
Beautifully renovated 1864 farmhouse, surrounded by towering eucalyptus and cypress trees, on 166 certified organic acres, on the shores of Tomales Bay. Our house is a 30-second walk to the beach, perfect for launching your kayak and watching spectacular sunsets.
The House: Setup with everything you’ll need – new beds and luxurious feeling bedding, fully-equipped gourmet kitchen, 1910 Steinway Grand Piano, Wi-Fi, flat screen TV and DVDs, indoor and outdoor games, BBQ, patio, upper and lower porches for chillin’, lots of room to hang out (inside and outside), towels, beach towels, hair dryers, and many amenities provided – all in incomparably-beautiful surroundings. Seriously, this place is magical. Our house accommodates 10 (total, adults and kids): 4 bedrooms upstairs, each with queen bed; plus a queen pull-out sofa in the downstairs den.
For hosting events at our ranch, there are additional fees.
Eating: West Marin is a foodie Mecca, including Nick’s Cove, Hog Island Oyster Company, Marshall Store, Rocker Oysterfellas, Osteria Stellina, Cowgirl Creamery, Heidrun Meadery and so much more. Straus Family Creamery isn’t bad, either ☺. Pick up some pastries at the Tomales Bakery or Bovine Bakery in Point Reyes Station. Or, cook at home with our terrific kitchen. Or shuck and BBQ oysters on our patio. Or … ask us about having an incredible meal prepared by Stacy, our on-site and truly terrific caterer / private chef.
West Marin is a slice of paradise – kayaking on the Bay, hiking in the Point Reyes National Seashore, home to artisan cheeses, fresh local oysters and a serene country escape (but still only an hour’s drive to SF or Wine Country).
Want to know more about Marin County's rich environmental, sustainable agriculture and organic food history? Just ask siblings Vivien and Michael Straus - we can share stories about the Marin Agricultural Land Trust (MALT) - co-founded by our mother Ellen; stories about launching Straus Family Creamery (owned separately by our brother) and the local artisan cheese scene (Vivien created the CheeseTrail map and app). Want to talk about psychic phenomena? That's Michael's department :)
Come out to Marshall - the only town where the population minus the elevation equals the speed limit.

About Vivien & Michael Straus (siblings)
We are three siblings - Vivien & Michael co-manage the day-to-day, and Miriam and her family live back East). Should you be interested, and if the timing works out to give you a walking tour of the farm, we've got plenty of stories - including when Viv and Michael helped launch Straus Family Creamery; and when mom co-founded the Marin Agricultural Land Trust, or Miriam driving a tractor into the manure pond (oops, Miriam, are you reading this??).

Perfect mid week getaway
I just spent a magical overnight at the Straus Home Ranch with some friends. I only wish I was able to stay longer. A super comfortable place to gather with friends to cook and eat wonderful food and drink. We were also able to do some hiking and some got to kayak. It was only a 2 hour drive from home with some stunning views along the way.
Thank you so much. So glad to have people who stay who know how to take advantage of all Marshall has to offer. Best to you all!
A fabulous place for two families to unwind after the holidays. The Straus family,
Vivien and Michael, were very helpful with sharing information regarding the house and surrounding Point Reyes area. We loved our time there and look forward to a return visit.
Thanks! It was great to have you and great to meet you too. Hope to see you again.
Beautiful place and lovely hosts
When I first visited Straus Home Ranch for a wedding site visit, I knew immediately this is the one! The hosts: Vivien & Micheal, were the best hosts you could ask for. They always answered our questions within 24hrs and provided so much information & details, which made the entire planning process stress-free. During the wedding weekend, they made sure we had everything we needed for both rehearsal & wedding events. Our guests were impressed by the beauty of this place and our families had a wonderful stay in the ranch. We love this venue and would certainly consider come back to this area!
Thank you, Yuan ... it was a pleasure to share the ranch with you, Mike, your family and friends! Warmest wishes and congratulations!!
A beautifully decorated farm house in the middle of heaven
I could go on and on about my INCREDIBLE stay at the farm house, but words can’t describe the magic. A massive THANK YOU to Vivien and Michael for making us feel welcome and making sure we were well taken care of.
We soooo loved having you on the farm. You created the most spectacular and unique wedding, filled with heart and laughter. So happy to have met you. Congratulations again!
Perfect celebration setting
Six of us met to celebrate our Medicare birthdays. We wanted beauty, quiet, walks, a bit of adventure, a nearby restaurant, but mostly talks, talks, talks and much laughter. The ranch was perfect: we could be together when we wanted to, and private when we chose. We spent hours in the kitchen and around the dining table, or reading in the sun coming through the endless windows, and by the end of our too short stay, it was hard to leave the Adirondacks in the front yard. The ranch was just what we needed!
It was so great to have you, and to meet you! Sharing what we love has been a spectacular bonus for us. Best to all of you. Happy BirthdayS!
Farm House on Tomales Bay
This beautiful and historic farmhouse with views of Tomales Bay was the ideal getaway for my friends and I. Everything was perfectly prepared and our host went above and beyond to make sure we settled in and had everything we needed. While having coffee at the gorgeous handcrafted kitchen table I noticed out the window that the cows came by to say good morning. Hikes, beaches, kayaking, and delicious oysters and mixed drinks are all possibilities when you plan your days using the Straus Home Ranch as your launch pad, or stay put and cozy up near a window with a book and take in the views with the ever shifting light through the trees. Hanging out in the yard at night with strung lights felt like being in a movie . . . a great one. And yes there is a soundtrack. The house has a great sound system! I loved learning about the history of the place, and was grateful to be part of it and can't wait to go back.
Thanks Julia! We love sharing our place. And great to have nice people to share it with! Best, Vivien, Michael and Miriam
