Spacious Canal 5BR home: Perfect for a memorable family centered week.

Bedrooms 5
Space 2,300 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

About the property

5BR 4BA; 1 outside shower with 4 story open design.

We hope you enjoy our spacious 2300 SF home with 4 floors to create an open flowing floor plan. Relax and enjoy beach living with your family and friends at Ocean Isle Beach.

The well equipped kitchen has under the counter second ice maker, new (2015) SS Microwave, toaster oven, blender, wine glasses and all amenities for your family and friends. New large kitchen table can seat 10 and the extended kitchen counter seats four with bar stools.

The kitchen overlooks the two story great room with twenty feet of huge picture windows facing westward over the back deck, and the canal waterway.

One of our favorite times on the deck is first thing in the morning with a cup of coffee and book, or toward dinner time with appetizers and a glass of wine - talking about your round of golf, fishing or the laid back day spent on the white sands of the beach.

The Great rooom has a large Smart High Definition TV with wireless internet for your convenience. DVD Stereo VHS are all there. Newly tinted picture windows looking west over the canal provide plenty of light for the family area.

Convenient beach access with showers is just a short walk away - approximately 200 yards. Additionally, car and golf cart parking is available is desired or necessary.

There are many options for runners, and walkers while at OIB with sidewalks galore and natural walkways several miles long located on the East end inland.

From our home, a 5K is to take a Left on Second street, headed east then all the way down to the end of the island, turning toward the inter coastal and running to the gazebo. That is 2.2 miles.

If you run the 'point to point Island Run' from our driveway to the East end, then go all the way to the west end and back to our home, this is a 11 mile route.

Golf: Brunswick County has more than 40 courses and this is before you get to the Myrtle Beach area. Our favorites are The Thistle, Panther's Run, Lions Paw, Carolina National GC, Crow Creek, Farmstead, Cape Fear National, the Pearl East, Sandpiper.

If your group plans to play more than two rounds of golf, we would recommend purchasing the Myrtle Beach Passport (Google on line) as you will get 50% rate discounts for your group of 4 golfers- it pays for itself on the second round!

Tennis: Ocean Isle Recreation Park is on Georgetown Road, about 1 mile north of the bridge. Turn there and go 1 mile for 8 hard surface tennis courts with windscreens and water there. Nice children's play area as well.

About David

We came to Ocean Isle from Charlotte back in 1970 when there was a rotating bridge to get to the island. We love this place and all of it's great memories through the three generations that have enjoyed this special place at the beach.

David purchased this house in 1994

Why David chose Southern Coast

If you have not spent time at Ocean Isle before, you will find this beach and island to be unique because there is little commercial business on the island. This creates the atmosphere of family homes, rest, and natural beauty. It is quiet and peaceful and the perfect place to just get away and relax. We do.

Walk to Atlantic ocean
Car: recommended

Ocean Isle is A great place to enjoy your family and friends at the beach. Lay back, relax, and walk on the white sands. This island is almost exclusively private homes to provide the atmosphere of family.

Enjoy many choices for golf. We recommend the Thistle, Sand Piper, and any of the Ocean Plantation courses with Tiger's Eye and Leopards. Also Farmstead has fast Bermuda greens.

New public tennis courts near-by, and lots of rental for bikes, kayaks, jet skis and many other water related activities.

Bring your own boat, and keep it at our dock for the week. Easy to access both the Intracoastal waterway and access the Atlantic Ocean for off-shore fishing.

Ocean Isle has a private airport if needed.

There is the Ocean Isle Marine Museum with programming especially for young children, and then there is a planetarium on the way to Sunset Beach, which is ten minutes south. Ocean Isle beach has an active program for the preservation of sea turtle nests in the dunes and we have watched night time 'turtle hatchings' during the summer months

The island is approximately 7 miles from point to point: good for running and biking with sidewalks all the way down both on First street at the ocean and Second street.

Groceries and nick- knacks are all very close with a full service Food Lion across the bridge, and several beach stores for souvenirs, beach chairs, swim gear, etc.

Wonderful Relaxing Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We were so happy with our stay! The house was nice and clean, had all of the amenities we may need (so happy to see that the kitchen had lots of utensils and extra things just in case). The back porch was wonderful, and a great spot to sit anytime of day. The beach was a quick walk from the house, and the canal was beautiful. We will definitely be back in the future! Thanks again for everything!

Great house, amenities and location.

  • 5 of 5

The house is a great size, amenities were there for us (beach toys, chairs, etc) and the renters are easy to deal with. A wonderful family vacation made easy by the house and no fus rental.

Overall great stay!

  • 4 of 5

Wonderful location, great layout for families as the bedrooms are spread out and work well. My only recommendation and complaint would be the washing machine on site, it did not work properly and made an extremely loud and irritating noise which was not pleasant at all. I did notify the owner while there and he came, of course it did not happen much as he was the there the 15 minutes. One more note to the cleaning crew - to do a better deeper cleaning, especially the King Bedroom by deck off family room. Found someone's t-shirt in back of mattress and allot of dust on alarm clock and trinkets on dresser. We had a fabulous trip and thoroughly enjoyed our time spent at the home.

This 5 bedroom canal house was perfect for our large family.

  • 3 of 5

We arrived on Saturday and the living room power went out on Sunday morning. We called the owner and he arranged for an electrician to arrive on Monday morning. We had to make arrangements for someone to wait for him.

We ran an extension cord to the living room so we could still get TV and internet. However, on Sunday afternoon the modem died. My grandson called TWC (Spectrum) and they said it would be Friday before a tech could come out. However, they said we could bring the modem to the office in MB and they would trade it for a new one. The owner didn't want us to do that, and it was Thursday late afternoon before the tech came, and again we had to arrange to wait for the repairs. One family member was taking a working vacation and had to purchase a hotspot for her phone and purchase additional data in order to have the internet.

On Wednesday afternoon the air conditioning quit on the top two floors. The HVAC guy couldn't get there until the next day, so the upper two floors were unbearably hot and we had to move family members to the living room to sleep. Once again we had to use our vacation time to wait for someone to make the repairs.

Our family was not responsible for any of the problems. The power outage was caused by corrosion in an outlet, the AC had a clogged drain line, and the modem simply died for an unknown reason.

The contract reads that there would be no refunds for problems with the property, so we didn't ask. However, if I was the homeowner I would have offered to compensate the renters for all the time spent addressing repairs and giving up vacation time to do it.

Owner's Response: We have rented our home for 3 years and have never had electrical or air-conditioning issues that effected our guests. The electrician came the next day and our air-conditioning company made it a priority to come First thing the morning after I was called. Sorry for the inconvenience for sure. Renee needed to ventilate and neglected to talk about the amenities that we have provided for our guests.
