6 Bedroom, 3 Bath Restored Historic Home, 2 Minutes From Downtown Mt. Shasta.
Location, charm and comfort...the 'A' Street Retreat has it all! Formerly operated as a Bed & Breakfast inn (the "Mount Shasta House"), this home has 6 bedrooms and 3 baths and can sleep up to 13 people. It is ideal for families as it is just 1 1/2 blocks from the adorable, historic downtown Mt. Shasta. Teens and older kids can walk to the movies, to basketball courts at the local school, and to parks. Adults will love the restaurants and shopping just around the corner while enjoying the peaceful residential neighborhood. Living room has ample seating, big screen TV with cable, Netflix, Hulu Plus and Amazon, high speed internet access and cozy wood stove with generous supply of wood for winter months. Dining area table can expand to seat 14 (10 without expansion) and breakfast room seats another 6. Spacious and charming kitchen with new range, granite countertops and dishwasher is very thoroughly supplied for all of your cooking and baking needs. Bedroom #1 downstairs is off the living room and contains a second TV with cable and DVD player so the kids and adults can be entertained separately. A lovely day-bed trundle (sleeps 2) provides extra seating and 'hanging out' space and the warm yellow walls, green quilts and sunny windows make the space very welcoming. Bedroom #1 shares a Jack and Jill bath with bedroom #2. Bedroom #2 has recently been upgraded with a new, high quality full sized bed to replace the former day-bed trundle. This room still sleeps 2 but is now suitable for a couple who wants to share a bed. The floral quilts, white dresser, whimsical wall art, and its own 'Harry Potter Cupboard' under the stairs (complete with cozy mattress and reading lights for some private time!) make this room a lovely, peaceful space. Bedroom #3 is adjacent to the second downstairs bathroom and contains an adorable trundle bunkbed (sleeps 3). The perfect place for your little rascals, this room is decorated with beautiful, cozy comforters and silly monkey wall art. Upstairs, bedroom #4 has two lovely maple twin beds with very high quality mattresses and bedding. Sweet reading lights above each bed, built in cabinets and antique postcards of the Mt. Shasta area make this room a wonderful retreat. Bedroom #5 upstairs is decorated in soothing tones of sage and cream and has a beautiful iron frame queen bed with a very high quality mattress and bedding. Built in cabinets, a spacious closet and a comfortable chair will assure that you have room to move and to relax. The largest room upstairs is Bedroom #6. With a peek-a-boo view of Mt. Shasta, this comfortable room includes another beautiful iron bed frame (of course with high quality mattress and bedding), handmade bedside tables, a cozy reading chair and lamp and built-in dresser. The upstairs bathroom is a large, sunny room with a claw foot tub that you will want to soak in for hours. You will find a fully stocked laundry room with large capacity washer and dryer off of the kitchen and up to 4 off-street parking spaces (depending on snow levels!) in the rear of the property. Back deck with view of the Eddy mountain range. The house is literally less than 2 minutes from some of the best amenities the town of Mt. Shasta has to offer. Walk to the Berryvale Market for fresh organic groceries and delicious prepared foods or stop at Bistro 107 for an amazing salmon burger, sweet potato fries and a beer. Want the BEST eggs benedict north of San Francisco followed by a world class cinnamon roll? Then walk three short blocks to the Mt. Shasta Pastry Company for breakfast. The 'A' Street Retreat has the benefit of being in the heart of the downtown area with the quiet, relaxing feel of a residential neighborhood. We are sure that you will love the location, decor, and amenities and will want to return year after year! New for 2015: Backyard and deck completely renovated! Large, lovely space for outdoor meals and play. Propane fire pit and night lighting for beautiful evenings under the stars. Please note that we do not allow pets of any kind and that the backyard furniture and fire pit are stored during the winter months (approx late November to late March). Feel free to contact the owner (707-695-9093) or property manager (530)926-6400 if you prefer to book direct.

About Mt. Shasta Vacation Rentals
We have lived and worked in the North Bay Area (Sonoma County) for most of our lives. Along with our adult son and daughter, we love the outdoors and enjoy hiking, skiing, fishing and kayaking. We spend as much time as possible in Mt. Shasta and are looking forward to retiring there eventually.
Mt. Shasta Vacation Rentals purchased this House in 2013
Why Mt. Shasta Vacation Rentals chose Mount Shasta
We have spent a significant amount of time in Mt. Shasta every year for over a decade and have always dreamed of owning a home here. After renting other homes in the area for so many years, we know exactly what it takes to make a vacation rental feel like home and we have worked hard to set up the 'A' Street Retreat with this in mind. We love the vintage style of the house (1920s) and have furnished it with both the historic period and modern comfort in mind. This house is not just a generic vacation rental...it is our home on the mountain and it has been decorated and supplied with love and attention.
What makes this House unique
The combination of historic charm, central location, quiet neighborhood and fact that it is big enough to hold our extended family made the 'A' Street Retreat the perfect spot for us. As the only house on the street zoned for use as a vacation rental (a historic holdover from its early days as a rooming house), guests have the unique benefit of 'living' in a peaceful residential area with the best access to what the town has to offer.

Perfect place for small group of friends
A small group of my friends wanted a peaceful place where we could take time from our busy lives to have quiet time to envision our new year. We wanted a place that was within walking distance to town (since we car pooled to Mt. Shasta) and we each wanted our own room. This lovely home provided all of this and so much more. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare meals at the house and the living room and dining area were the perfect sizes to fit all of our small group of 6 friends . The house is set on a quiet street just a block up the hill from the main boulevard of downtown and a short walk to Sisson Meadows. We truly enjoyed our time there.
Thanks for the lovely review! It is such a pleasure to share our house with people who appreciate all it has to offer. We look forward to your next visit!
Very cute house, super nice and roomy
We loved this house. We had company from all the US and Israel. Everyone enjoyed it. The only thing difficult were the bunk beds for adults. We needed the beds, but not bunk beds. Other than that, there was plenty of room for our 9 guests.
Comfortable, well equipped and within walking distance of town center
We enjoyed our stay, there was everything we needed provided.
The 3 downstairs rooms are really small, if you use the 'trundle beds' then there is no room to walk on the floor! OK for kids, but too tight for adults. No AC downstairs which makes it very hot at times.
Overall a pleasant stay.
Thanks for taking the time to review our property! We are sorry that you were uncomfortably warm downstairs. We stay in the house frequently ourselves and have found a good system of managing the heat which is detailed in the guest book. You are correct that it is hard to navigate the downstairs bedrooms when the trundle beds are pulled out but we have found that most of our guests like the flexibility of being able to sleep large groups and simply push them in during the day. Thanks again for staying with us!
What you see is what you get!
This was a great house to stay in! Lots of charm and character- our friends and family had a great time! We liked how you can walk into town easily and the neighborhood was very quiet. Beds were comfortable and the towels were plush!
The twin beds are a bit high so if you have a toddler who is used to sleeping in a bed, you may want to bring a rail. We had to get creative and stack up pillows and a side table next to a twin bed out of fear of his rolling off! It's a long drop. ;)
Thank you so much! We would love to stay again.
P.S. We also really appreciate the extra food staples in the house. It is nice to not have to bring up salt, pepper, ketchup, etc. :)
Thanks for the great review! We also really appreciate your suggestion to other guests with little ones that they bring a portable bed-rail when they come. We usually recommend folks bring a baby gate to block off the stairs if there are toddlers in the party but it had not occurred to us to suggest a bed-rail. We would love to have you stay with us again and are glad that you enjoyed our good supply of spices, condiments, tea, flour and sugar. We try hard to make sure our guests can just relax and enjoy our house and all of the beauty of Mt. Shasta.
A great home with lots of character and charm.
We all loved the old charm of the house. It was comfortable and we easily gathered around the dining room area for meals. A very pleasant experience. Nearly everything we needed to feel at home was there. The kitchen had everything you could possibly need.
Charming house, convenient location
Two families shared this charming home for a ski weekend in Shasta. The house is roomy with six rooms and a kitchen that is well-stocked (probably the best stocked rental kitchen ever). The home is located two blocks from the Shasta's main drive, close to grocery, coffee and bakeries. It is about a 20 minute drive to the Ski Park, sledding hill and hiking. We loved staying here! The only odd/negative thing was all our folded/hanging towels were wet; obviously they had not dried from the previous rental use. Usually a cleaning service brings fresh, clean towels but apparently the towels are washed onsite and reused, which does not seem very sanitary.
We're so glad you enjoyed your stay at our home in Mt. Shasta. We work really hard to make sure that guests have everything they need and that the house is clean and fully prepared for every stay. That's why it was so upsetting to hear that the towels hanging in the bathrooms were not dry when you arrived. I can assure you that they had absolutely been washed after the prior guests' stay and were clean and sanitary for your use but, it appears that the dryer had malfunctioned and our housekeeping did not exercise good judgment in hanging the towels before they were fully dry. I have addressed the situation with them and have been assured it will not happen again. Thank you for staying with us and we hope you come again (and enjoy our fluffy, DRY towels).

Mt. Shasta is truly a '4 Season Wonderland'. In the Spring, Summer and Fall you will find hiking, fishing, mountain climbing, swimming, boating and at least one local festival each month. In the Winter, downhill, nordic and back-country skiing as well as ice-skating will keep everyone busy. Historic Downtown Mt. Shasta is full of charming shops and restaurants...all within walking distance of our vacation rental. Take a day trip to beautiful Medicine Lake or catch a play in Ashland Oregon (just over an hour away!). You can pick your own Lavender at the Mt. Shasta Lavender farm (and enjoy the stunning views while you sip complimentary lavender lemonade) or schedule a massage or skin treatment at one of the many local day spas. If you are a crafter, don't miss Weston's. This little vintage house is packed with craft supplies and ideas and, if you happen to be in town on a Saturday, you might even want to take one of the needlework classes on a drop in basis. Mt. Shasta offers something for everyone...and in a setting much more peaceful and crowd free than Lake Tahoe.
