About the property

2100 Sq.Ft Camel-back Victorian With Private Brick Courtyard - Quiet, Safe Oasis

Newly renovated Luxury 1830s Victorian 2 story camel back house is a perfect blend of old and new character. No expense was spared restoring the home to its original status and retaining all of its charm and character. I have been fortunate to have received feedback from friends and family who have stayed at the house that this is a true "home away from home experience". The house has original 12 foot ceilings, large windows, french doors and 150 year old heart of pine hardwood floors through out. Crown molding, picture molding, original brick chimneys and ceiling medallions blend effortlessly with the 1830s light fixtures in the living room and dining room. A modern gourmet kitchen with granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances add the necessary modern convenience. The bathrooms are appointed with wanes coating and mosaic marble tile flooring/marble tile shower enclosure with jetted tub in the master bedroom and traditional subway tile with jetted tub in the guest bathroom. Designer light fixtures, custom furniture and original artwork featuring local and old world artists complement an eclectic design aesthetic. All bedrooms are large with walk-in closets in the master bedroom and master suite. There are 2 king size beds, and, 1 queen sofa sleeper and 2 full futon sofas that comfortably sleeps 6 guests. All bedding and linens are luxurious with soft 1000 count Egyptian count sheets. The private bricked courtyard is surrounded by lush mature bamboo and trees and can be assessed at the side of the house or along the side gallery from the kitchen foyer. The is a gas 2 burner grill and bistro tables for out door dining options. There is a surround sound system in the living room with ceiling speakers in 5 other spaces through out the house allowing music to be adjusted to the individuals preference. Wireless internet/cable with HBO is accessible to 4 smart Samsung flat screen TVs placed in the living room and each bedroom. Electronic front door keypad/camera security system makes access to the house convenient and safe. A sprinkler and fire alarm system has been added to protect my home The house is a licensed 2 bedroom bed and breakfast with the 2 bedrooms rented to 1 group at a time.. I can accommodate most guest requests with stays from 3 nights to a 30 day rental. The entire 3 bedroom house can be rented for a monthly lease as a traditional corporate rental. The rate is negotiable based upon duration of the stay and rooms utilized in the house. Feel free to inquire for a quote based upon availability.

About Ronald Chee-Awai

I am a young professional who has been fortune and thankful to eat, live and love all the city of New Orleans has to offer as the city evolves during its "Recover, Rebuild, Rebirth"

Ronald Chee-Awai purchased this house in 2011

Why Ronald Chee-Awai chose Marigny-Bywater

This home is my home away from home and was originally renovated with the hope that my friends and family would find a space comfortable, safe and secure while enjoying the city of New Orleans. Every convenience is available at the home in a quiet serene environment.

What makes this house unique

Renovating a diamond in the rough and giving others an opportunity to appreciate the outcome of a historic restoration with no expense spared for the small details. Attention was given to salvaging all the original pine flooring, joists and siding and re purposing the material into antique heart of pine hardwood flooring and the master bedroom ceiling. Salvaged brick, cast iron door hinges, 100 year old wooden panel doors, rim locks and door handles allow the house to have a vintage feel with all the modern 21st century convenience.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We stayed at Ronald's place in the Faubourg Marigny. The house was on a quaint little street nestled among other cute little houses built sometime around the 18th or 19th century. Staying there gave us the experience of being a local in a real New Orleans neighborhood in the French Quarter. The streets were narrow but eminently walkable and dotted with interesting bars and restaurants at every turn. Within a 3 minute walk was a place to grab a drink, another place to get brunch, and yet another place to get coffee. We stayed during Mardi Gras and the entire neighborhood was in a festive spirit. Every day we walked to the French Quarter, all the way down to the end of Bourbon Street and sometimes beyond. We were able to explore every part of the French Quarter with ease, even walking to St. Louis Cathedral to catch mass on Ash Wednesday. One day while we were walking home from shopping in the French Market, a local invited us to join their crawfish boil. On Fat Tuesday another local handed us free Hot Toddy drinks to help warm us up on that unusually cold day. Those little experiences really made us fall in love with the neighborhood and we really got a feel for life in New Orleans. I should not forget to mention how gorgeous and well furnished the house itself was. On the outside it fits in perfectly with the rest of the houses in a neighborhood steeped in history and tradition. On the inside, there are beautiful wooden floors and high 12 foot ceilings. There is a high definition television with surround sound speakers in every room. There are interesting pictures of various landmarks of New Orleans on every wall. There is a full kitchen that offers you limitless possibilities to bake, fry, toast, or nuke whatever leftover you took home from dinner at the countless NOLA eateries. The bathrooms have warm showers and hot tub jets in the bath. And when you walk out the balcony on the second floor you can see the steeple of a nearby historic church sticking out from a sea of historic homes. I had an amazing time staying here and would definitely want to stay in the exact location again (hint hint). I would recommend it to anyone staying in New Orleans.

VERY comfy!!!

Seven ladies enjoyed this home recently, and our first impression was really Ooooh, Aaaahhh. Very nice accommodations: beds were top notch and we all slept well, amenities were top quality and supplies were generous. Being New Orleans, we didn't cook in the kitchen more than to make coffee and pour cold milk onto the cereal, but we certainly could have done more. We spent the coldest week of the year there so didn't avail ourselves of the lovely back yard - maybe someday! Our host was anxious to please, and we bugged him enough to find out. Really.... I would stay there again.

I spent New Years Eve Weekend with a group of 7 adults at this wonderful property, and recommend wholeheartedly. It is a beautifully renovated house that has all the modern amenities that you would want, with all of the old charm you would expect in an 1830s property. The location is fantastic, we walked to Frenchmen's Street, The Roch Market, and even Walgreens on several occasions. We hit semi-regular status at Marie's Bar on the corner. Ron was out of town during our stay, but checked in with us regularly and was always available by phone or text. We appreciated the extra touches such as surround sound, stocked coffee and water, the tasteful furnishings, and luxery finishes. If you are searching for a home away in New Orleans, this is you place!

Only one word.....Fabulous!!!

We had a wonderful girls weekend with 9 women. Masion Marigny house was wonderfully equipped and so very beautiful, and the owner was fantastic. He introduced us to the house, which was meticulously renovated, and the area. His introduction to the city was perfect and set us up for a great weekend of awesome cuisine, dancing and brunch ideas. The house was an easy and safe walk to the French quarter and offered peaceful nights and quiet mornings away in an artsy neighborhood. If your looking for class and comfort, this is the place! Thanks Ron ❤️

When I think of my stay in this beautiful home I have so many “Wow” moments I am not sure where to begin. Prior to our stay, Ron went above and beyond helping us with recommendations and answering all of our questions. He was very detailed in everything including orientating us to the home once we arrived. From the moment we walked in the door I wanted to do cartwheels. The pictures shown here on the site, while beautiful, do not do this home justice. The owner, Ron, spared no expense to make sure his guests have an experience nothing short of amazing. The décor, the beyond comfortable beds, the luxury linens, the plush robes and a kitchen equipped with everything you could possibly need. In addition, the courtyard is fantastic!! We took Ron’s recommendation and hired a friend of his, celebrity chef, Natasha Clement to prepare meals for us twice. Once for a buffet style dinner and the second was a magnificent brunch in the courtyard. The brunch was a full service presentation with set up, a server, champagne etc all prepared right in the kitchen of the home. The food was easily some of the best I have had in New Orleans which, if you have ever been, you will know that is saying a lot as this city is known for its amazing food.

Finally, I must mention Paul, who assists Ron with making sure the guests have everything they need. He was very accommodating, responsive and a pleasure to meet. There were six of us and the home was suited just right!

Many thanks to Ron! Going forward my trips to the Big Easy will always include a stay your home!

Great stay

We throughly enjoyed our stay at this house. The pictures online don't do the place justice. The house is in a great location, and the owner was accommodating and readily available for questions. We would recommend staying here!
