We arrived at this rental expecting a clean, non-smoking property, but the house immediately reeked of cigarette smoke. The kitchen ceiling had a large water stain with peeling paint, and water was actively dripping onto the floor. The house had also not been properly cleaned, with multiple hair balls visible on the floors.Within minutes of entering the property, we contacted the owner and requested a full refund because the home was not in habitable condition. The owner refused to issue a refund unless we gave him 24 hours to address the issues. Due to the smoke odor, water leak, and cleanliness concerns, we did not feel comfortable staying and checked into a hotel instead.Despite being in the property for less than five minutes and never staying overnight or using the home, the owner is now charging us a cleaning fee.This property was materially different from what was advertised and should not be listed on VRBO in its current condition. Based on our experience, VRBO should seriously review this listing and this owner’s practices to prevent other travelers from having a similar experience.
