Exploring Iceland

This was a remote cozy cottage with a genuine rustic and traditional feel. Privacy with spectacular views and isolated enough to get a look at the northern lights. We stayed for a week and it was exactly what we wanted, didn’t take into consideration how much driving it would be to and from the city but it was an incredible experience and extraordinary scenery.

A beautiful, peaceful cottage in a great location

We very much enjoyed our stay. The cottage is beautiful and comfortable, very convenient with everything we needed and gorgeous views (when the weather cooperates!) It is well located for the hiking we wanted to do in the Landmannalaugar and Thorsmork/Skogar areas, as well as for a day trip into Reykjavik. We also appreciated the host's recommendations for local walks and shopping (beautiful yarn from a nearby farm). Thank you so much for a great stay!

Just what I was looking for

Very private and secluded. A nice way to experience Iceland. About 1 hr drive to most experiences. Host was great. Unit was clean and just large enough for us (family of 4, including 2 teenagers). Fair bit of time on gravel roads to get there, so make sure you rent an appropriate vehicle.

Lovely cottage

We loved our stay in the Icelandic countryside in this beautiful, clean and comfortable cottage. It is idilic and quiet there. It has everything you need and amazing views of both sunset and sunrise. Maja was an excellent host. She gave us a lot of pointers snd advice and even sent us the weather warning when it was snowing in the area. We had a fantastic time and planning to return one day to see the area in a different season.

Magical Iceland

We enjoyed a perfect stay at Bjalli. Maja's advice for day-trips in the area pointed us to many memorable sights and off-the-beaten-path experiences. After our daily excursions we looked forward to "coming home" to this perfect little cottage. It was peaceful beyond description, yet convenient to all of the necessities for a week's stay or longer. The cottage is beautifully situated with vast views yet comforting connections with the herd of Icelandic horses and the homeowner nearby. We already want to go back.

Amazing

This was our favorite place to stay out of all our travels in Europe. Clean, open layout and windows. We had one very rainy day and were so glad we could spend it at Bjalli. It was so very hard to leave this place. I highly highly recommend it. GREAT jump off to south iceland attractions. Maja is a very nice woman. We had a wonderful time. STAY HERE!

Charming Stay with Breathtaking Views and a Wonderful Host

We recently stayed at “Bjalli, house on a slope with a view of Hekla volcano” and had a wonderful experience. The house is super cute, cozy, and well-appointed with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The view of Hekla volcano from the house is simply breathtaking, adding a unique charm to the entire experience. Maja, our host, was incredibly nice and welcoming. She went out of her way to ensure we had everything we needed and provided excellent recommendations for exploring the local area. Her warmth and hospitality made our stay even more enjoyable. We highly recommend this delightful spot for anyone looking to enjoy the beauty of Iceland with a wonderful host.

Perfect Getaway Spot

This was my first time visiting iceland, and when we saw this tiny house we couldnt resist. It was so much better than expected! From the outside the place does indeed look tiny, but on the inside it is cozy, warm, and perfect. Surprisingly spacious-feeling for such a small place. It was set far enough away from everything to feel private and secluded, but only 90 minutes or less from a lot of amazing golden circle sights (Vic, the airplane wreck, Skogafoss, Seljalandsfoss, Geysir). Maya was a great host, warm and friendly, offering a good bit of information ahead of visiting to help us map out our stay. We had a great experience here!

Cosy & Welcoming

We stayed at Bjalli for Christmas 2014 & loved it! :) Maja is so very welcoming & friendly. She is genuinely enthusiastic about Iceland & wants you to enjoy it as much as she does. She is also full of wonderful recommendations & useful information. In addition, the cottage is well furnished & the little details, such as candles, have been thought of; we wanted for nothing! We shall definately return to Iceland & hope very much to stay at Bjalli again!

Comfy Cozy

Our family of four had a lovely stay in this comfortable, cozy and super clean cottage. It is very well-equipped and appointed. I LOVED not having a television; even the kids didn't complain as the environment was conducive to listening to music and doing a little reading. Maja was sure to check on us and provided great restaurant recommendations as well as activities for a rainy, windy day (swimming of course--it was fantastic!). This cottage is away from it all, yet perfectly situated for day trips all over southern Iceland. My only recommendation is to have a four wheel drive vehicle, since you do need to travel a few km/miles on a gravel road (gravel roads are VERY common in Iceland, so I recommend this regardless of where you stay). A small SUV will do the trick just fine. Thank you Maja for a great, albeit short, stay at your wonderful cottage on your beautiful property.

Beautiful Bjalli!

What a wonderful, wonderful cabin. We stayed here for two weeks with our sons (6yrs and 3yrs) and had the most amazing holiday! The cabin is beautiful - light and airy, very tastefully decorated with beautiful original art on the walls. It's location is to die for - in the middle of a meadow on a hill side overlooking more meadows, herds of Icelandic horses, and Hekla volcano! It's so quite and peaceful. The cabin is located brilliantly for all of Southern Iceland's main attractions - Gullfoss, thingvellir national park, numerous waterfalls, Vik beach etc. All of them with an hour/ two hours drive. Maja is a delightful woman - friendly, helpful and so knowledgeable about places to visit. She made us all feel so welcome - Bjalli really was a home from home. The cabin is well equipped, cosy and warm - and you could sit and look at the views all day along. Thank You Maja for a wonderful and unforgettable holiday!

A very special place.

Bjalli is a very special place. Many cottages advertised in Iceland are in tight groups or attached to each other. Maja, the owner, has been very clever to situate Bjalli in a location where you feel totally alone in the peace and quiet of nature – but also knowing that her farmhouse is just over the hill. Ideally situated for visiting the variety of nature’s wonders to be found on the south coast of Iceland, Bjalli is also within easy reach of Reykjavik and the international airport is not a daunting distance away to drive. Clean, comfortable and quiet; we spent our relaxation time at Bjalli sitting on the porch watching meadow pipits swooping about, golden plovers tussock hopping and the antics of various other members of the local wildlife. The Hekla volcano is a great sight to wake up to each morning and even Eyjafjallajökull peeps over the horizon on a clear day. Without Maja’s excellent local knowledge and friendly advice we would not have made such good use of our days. Excellent, thanks Maja.

Perfect house in perfect spot

I couldn't have been happier staying in Bjalli. I still get a little bubble of joy in my chest every time I think of it, and I don't think that's going away soon. I have stayed in many self catering rentals and never have I seen one more thoughtfully appointed with everything you could need. The decor is lovely and the views are glorious. I felt at once completely alone in the world, which was delicious, but warm and safe and looked after. Maja was a brilliant host, letting me know all-important news like weather and road conditions, and kindly coming down to say hi with Skinna, her sheep dog, but was never intrusive. My only regret is that I spent so much time exploring the wonders of Iceland that I did not get enough time simply to enjoy the house and it's surroundings, being there really only at night. (Although crisp clear winter nights spent there without any light pollution meant two nights in a row of Aurora Borealis!). I will definitely be back, for longer next time.

Le soir nous Ă©tions contents de retrouver notre maisonnette et de profiter de ce calme absolu. Repos garanti. Au niveau de la maisonnette, tout Ă©tait bien agencĂ©, bien Ă©quipĂ© et pratique. Vous y trouverez Ă©galement un classeur avec toutes les informations utiles quant Ă  l‘organisation de votre sĂ©jour et de vos visites (ces infos vous seront dĂ©jĂ  envoyĂ©es Ă  l‘avance via e-mail) ainsi que d‘autres brochures, cartes routiĂšres etc. La propriĂ©taire, Maja, est venue nous saluer un soir en nous offrant des oeufs frais de sa ferme. Personne trĂšs aimable. A recommander sans modĂ©ration! Idyllischer Ort. Aus jedem Zimmer freier Blick auf die wunderschöne Natur. Guter Ausgangspunkt um die ganze Region, sogar bis JökulsĂĄrlĂłn zu erkunden. Abends waren wir froh unser HĂ€uschen wiederzufinden und diese absolute Ruhe zu geniessen. Erholung pur. Das HĂ€uschen ist praktisch angeordnet und gut eingerichtet. Ein Ordner mit allerlei Informationen zur Region (die sie bereits vorher auch via E-mail erhalten) liegt bereit, ebenso wie BrochĂŒren, Karten etc. Die Besitzerin, Maja, hat uns abends mal kurz besucht und uns Eier von ihrem Hof mitgebracht. Sehr nette Person. Alles in allem: absolut empfehlenswert.

EXCELLENT SEJOUR A BJALLI

Nous avons passé un superbe séjour à Bjalli ; petite maison trÚs confortable, trÚs bien équipée et bien chauffée ; L'environnement est incroyable : paysage à perte de vue , visites des chevaux, chants de nombreux oiseaux, sans oublier la visite du chien de Maja. L'accueil de Maja est tellement chaleureux que l'on oublie les affres du temps islandais qui ne nous a pas épargné . Ces conseils ont été trÚs précieux et ces explications trÚs intéressantes pour comprendre un peu la vie de l'Islande. Bjalli est un excellent point de départ pour découvrir tout le sud de l'Islande. Un séjour parfait ; nous recommandons sans réserve ce gite ... on a envie d'y retourner. Merci à Maja de nous avoir permis de découvrir son beau pays.

Nous avons passĂ© des moments magiques dans cette maison perdue dans les collines blondes en cette saison et de fait trĂšs chaleureuses ! par temps de neige ce doit ĂȘtre purement fĂ©Ă©rique! La maison est trĂšs bien conçue, il n'y manque rien pour le confort et une famille de 4 max. Maja est adorable et Ă  disposition! L'environnement proche est trĂšs beau et on est aux pieds du cercle d'or, magnifique !

Fantastique séjour !!

Cette petite maison est l'endroit rĂȘvĂ© pour les amateurs de grands espaces et de calme. IdĂ©alement situĂ©e, elle est le point de dĂ©part idĂ©al pour la dĂ©couverte du sud de l'Islande. Bien Ă©quipĂ©e, elle dispose de tout le confort nĂ©cessaire pour se reposer et se dĂ©tendre. Nous reviendrons avec plaisir chez Maja qui est trĂšs sympathique et toujours prĂȘte Ă  donner des conseils tout en sachant rester discrĂšte. Un moment magique

Nous avons passĂ© un merveilleux moment dans cette charmante maison. C'est un endroit parfait pour se reposer, se ressourcer, dĂ©couvrir le triangle d'or et admirer les aurores borĂ©ales puisqu'il n'y a rien autour !!! Chalet Bjalli Ă  Skinnhufa (Hella)

Nous avons passĂ© une semaine Ă  4 adultes dans le chalet Bjalli au dĂ©but Mars et en gardons un trĂšs bon souvenir. L'ensemble est trĂšs bien pensĂ©, trĂšs propre et fonctionnel. La vue sur les collines et les volcans est fantastique et la tranquillitĂ© est garantie. Maja et Paul sont un couple charmant, trĂšs accueillant et toujours prĂȘts Ă  donner de bons conseils (mĂȘme en français si besoin est). C'est un trĂšs bon point de dĂ©part pour visiter la rĂ©gion du "Cercle d'Or" et le centre de l'Ăźle lorsque les routes de montagnes sont ouvertes. Nous avons eu en plus la chance de voir des aurores borĂ©ales. En bref, un excellent endroit Ă  recommander Ă  tous ceux qui aiment les grands espaces.

Entschleunigt

Es war wirklich wundervoll. Maja ist eine fantastische Gastgeberin. Wir hatten am Anreiseabend das große GlĂŒck die Nordlichter zu sehen. Einfach atemberaubend. Das Haus hat einen tollen Ausgangspunkt um durch den SĂŒden zu fahr und abends kann man gemĂŒtlich entspannen und hat einen wunderbaren Ausblick. Vielen Dank fĂŒr alles ttollen Standort

GemĂŒtliches Haus in toller Landschaft

Wir haben 5 wunderschöne Tage in Bjalli verbracht. Das Haus ist sehr gemĂŒtlich eingerichtet und es fehlt an nichts. Die Ausflugstipps von Maja sind sehr hilfreich. Wir waren zum zweiten Mal in dieser Gegend und werden bestimmt wiederkommen. Vom Haus aus konnten wir sogar die Polarlichter sehen. Wir haben uns zu 100 % wohlgefĂŒhlt und bedanken uns fĂŒr Majas Gastfreundschaft. Bis zum nĂ€chsten Mal !
