Our vacation rental is located in Ochsenwerder, in the Vier- und Marschlanden region, and is part of the Hamburg-Bergedorf district. This area is home to Hamburg’s largest flower and vegetable-growing region. For day-trippers, Bergedorf offers everything that makes Northern Germany so appealing: a historic old town with a castle and cafés, a maritime atmosphere with the city harbor, numerous canals, natural bodies of water, and an internationally renowned observatory.
In Ochsenwerder lies Lake Hohendeich, also known as Lake Oortkaten. It is Hamburg’s most popular recreational body of water and well known to all Hamburg anglers, surfers, and divers. As a result, various surf schools have set up shop along its shores. But you can also simply watch the surfers and sailors from the sunbathing lawns, have a barbecue, and go swimming. The Dove-Elbe Water Park, with its international rowing regatta course, is one of Hamburg’s best-known recreational water areas. Numerous cycling and hiking trails along the dikes and in the Boberg Dunes—which feature a glider airfield—as well as the marinas, sailing clubs, golf courses, and equestrian clubs attract countless visitors seeking relaxation to the Vier- und Marschlande region each year, with its picturesque old churches and farmhouses.
Hamburg-Bergedorf offers an idyllic canoeing area—a paradise for paddlers. The area stretches from the Neuengamme Memorial, through Ochsenwerder to the Tatenberg Lock, and from Curslack via the Krapphof Lock to the center of Bergedorf, and from there along the Bille River to Reinbek.
The 9-hole Red Golf Course in Moorfleet and Swing Golf in Ochsenwerder offer an ideal escape from everyday life and invite you to relax.
The vacation rental is just a stone’s throw from the Oortkaten yacht and inland waterway harbor, which marks the eastern boundary of the Port of Hamburg. Every year, on the first weekend in May, Hamburg celebrates its largest maritime festival, the Hamburg Harbor Birthday. The highlight is the departure parade featuring traditional ships, tall ships, and cruise ships, along with the tugboat ballet and spectacular fireworks.
Tourist attractions for visitors to Hamburg include tours of the historic Speicherstadt with Miniatur Wunderland, the largest international maritime museum housed in a historic port warehouse; Hamburg’s newest district, HafenCity, featuring the Museum Harbor, the cruise terminal, and the Elbphilharmonie; the annual Hamburg Harley Days; and the Hamburg Dom.
After seeing a Hamburg musical, you can round out the day with a stroll through the music bars on the infamous Reeperbahn.
Note: A culture and tourism tax of 2.40 euros per night is payable upon arrival.
