Overview

About the property

3 Bedroom, 3 Bath, Traditional Finnish sauna

We love this end-of-the road property for the privacy, stream with waterfall, and especially the incredible view of the continental divide. It now includes 4 separate parcels totaling 153 acres, and the closest neighbor is a half mile away. We're approximately 5 to 60 mins away from some of the best skiing in the country.

We have high speed 40Mb internet and Wifi for our guests, and utility power!

Our 2000 square foot cabin is built for guests. We have 3 private bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. The 2nd floor loft has a private bedroom with queen bed and its own bathroom. The main floor bedroom has two twin beds and full bathroom. Downstairs is another full guest suite including a queen bed and full private bath. The kitchen has plenty of space for cooking. There is a gas range, a full set of cookware and spices. Washer and dryer are included. The TV room has a 40 inch flatscreen with satellite TV, a small movie selection, and a few games.

We love the outdoor living, so we added 600 square feet of deck facing down the valley to the continental divide. A large outdoor grill with side burner is plumbed directly to our home - no worry about running out of propane! The patio table includes a gas fire pit to warm the cool evenings.

Walk a few hundred feet down a hundred year old trail to the waterfalls of Little Bear Creek. The creek originates at the top of our land. It tumbles down the center of the property over several private waterfalls.

Game passes through the property as a migration route from Mt. Evans to lower elevations. Deer and elk are common. Bear have been seen on the property. A lynx has left its tracks, but we haven't seen it yet. Our resident foxes are almost pets. Bird lovers will see hummingbirds and friendly gray jays around the cabin.

Enjoy a traditional Finnish sauna in the evening. It is a separate building made from local whole logs with a Lamppa Kuuma wood stove and rustic barnwood and stone interior. It is a truly traditional experience with a cold water faucet and a hot water tank heated by the stove.

The cabin sits between Evergreen and Idaho Springs, convenient for access to the mountain communities, ski hills, and Arapahoe National Forest. Denver is less than an hour away.

The property is now on the power grid! We have been off-grid for years, but utility power is more convenient for our guests. We also have a new 40Mb internet service with WiFi for our guests. There is no phone line. We use cell phones in the cabin. There is radiant in-floor heat throughout the cabin, on all floors.

We often get asked the altitude. The cabin is at 9600 feet. At this elevation there are a lot of trees and a lot of sun. Snow stays on the ground from November through April.

Why Eric and Carolyn Lehto chose Idaho Springs

For us, this cabin and land is about privacy and the best of mountain living. There is no better place to spend time with our kids and extended family. Even though we live only 20 minutes away in Evergreen, this is where we go to "check out" from busy schedules.

The roads to the cabin are maintained.

It is close enough to drive to either Idaho Springs or Evergreen restaurants and stores, and halfway between the city attractions of Denver and the ski slopes. Idaho Springs is about 20 minutes away down a mountain road with switchbacks. It has a great selection of restaurants, including our favorite Texas style barbecue at Smokin Yards, the famous Beau Jo's Pizza, and Tommyknockers micro brewery. Evergreen is 25 minutes away for additional restaurants, live bands at Little Bear Saloon or Cactus Jacks, large box grocery stores, Wal-mart, and Home Depot.

What makes this cabin unique

The Blue Valley Cabin has privacy that is hard to find anywhere. With 150 acres there are no neighbors, but unlimited views. Well appointed cabin with the comforts of home

Great house with an insane view

  • 5 of 5

House was very clean and comfortable. Recently updated as well, or fairly new construction as the property was in very good condition.

The real show stopper was the view from the wrap around deck, and main area of the house as well. Pictures don't do this justice. Nice hiking trail out back that heads to a waterfall on the lot. Would be most impressive in the spring with the snow melt. Sauna was nice too after a long day of hiking. The house was definitely a little secluded, but that provided for a nice disconnect and time to spend with friends.

Internet was great as we had a fantasy football draft while at the house (our rationale for the trip), with 8 people all online at the same time. No issues. Strongly recommend this place to any family or group of friends looking for a nice place to stay with phenomenal views of the continental divide.

Quintessential Colorado

  • 5 of 5

This home is an amazing Colorado retreat. At about 9,500 ft, this home offers amazing views and scenery. We loved the seclusion and quietness. The home itself is very well-maintained and layed-out. The amenities are top-notch, and the hosts are very responsive. I will 100% recommend this home to friends and family.

We love it!

  • 4 of 5

This place was wonderful! There were plenty of places for privacy and for socializing. The view from the living room was breathtaking. The wood stove kept the place warm and while there was plenty of wood provided, we had to gather our own kindling. The sauna was enjoyed by all, truly a unique experience. We enjoyed the deck with its gas fire pit, and the nearby trails. Gary the maintenance person was very helpful. One suggestion we would have for anyone renting this house: bring your own source of music.

We do our best to accommodate our visitors and make their vacation worry free. If you have any special requests please make them known to us. We have a very skilled maintenance man who lives right down the road if anyone needs immediate assistance. He is a wealth of knowledge, incredibly helpful and can provide kindling if you should run out. Have a safe trip home, Eric and Carolyn

Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

I can't write enough about this mountain gem! From the very start, we were welcomed in and assured that the snowy driveway would be taken care of asap. The house is perfect, has everything you might need, and if it's missing something, then the owners will get it for you quickly. (ex: we forgot ketchup and mustard!) You couldn't ask for a better view of the mountains, and you're surrounded by trees. If you'd like to get away and give yourself a treat, then stay here. You won't regret it, and will likely come back to visit. :) My only recommendation to the owners is to start recycling.

Beautiful cabin

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at Mount Evans. It was clean and had everything we needed. Situated in a beautiful area. We had a beautiful snow while we stayed. Eric and Carolyn made sure we were safe and had everything we needed. Eric even came out and plowed the driveway out for us and checked on us. I highly recommend staying at this Cabin.
