The museum often hosts demonstrations, lectures and fairs, including axe-wielding Adirondack Mountain Men and the nationally renowned Rustic Furniture Fair.

To the East, lie the majority of the High Peaks, 46 mountains over 4000 ft, each unique experiences to climb – some as single-day excursions and others as multi-day challenges.

Guestbook comments from the owner

How much fun we had at your most spectacular compound, Eagle Nest.

The buildings swallowed us up with ease, everybody had a place to go to play or have quiet time. It was such a treat and Dad loved it. Jaime was a delight and was there for us if we needed her.

I just wanted you both to know that we ALL had the best time and appreciate all your efforts in making that happen.

Thanks so much.

Amazing week on Eagle Lake!

  • 5 of 5

Every two years four generations of my extended family get together, usually in the Adirondacks, for a weeklong reunion. Since the family has been growing, we’ve grown out of the large home we previously rented and have, on occasion, resorted to renting multiple houses in the same area. This summer we stayed at Eagle Nest for the first time and we could not have been happier with that decision. Despite the large size of our group, there was more than enough space for all of us and we enjoyed the benefit of the very large living spaces so we could all be together in the dining room, on the deck, in the living room, and down by the boathouse.

There was a ton to do for everyone in the family right on-site. I literally parked the car after unpacking and never got back in it until we left a week later. We rented a ski boat, kayaks and a pontoon boat from The Boat Livery and kept them docked at the boat house and used them all week. We played tennis daily and set up badminton in the open area next to the court. We rented mountain bikes for the adults and kids that were dropped off when we arrived and picked up before we left. The adults enjoyed the trails with the bikes and the kids wore out the roads and circular driveways in front of the main and guesthouses. We canoed and kayaked across all three lakes; Eagle, Blue Mountain, and Uttowanna. In the middle of our stay many of the adults enjoyed massages right on-site. We also set up seaplane rides with Tom Helms, who landed right on Uttowanna lake and taxied right up to the dock at the hangar, on property a mile down the driveway from the main house.

In the evenings, we took turns making use of the huge kitchen and walk-in fridge to make dinners for the entire group. The kitchen had just about everything we needed from two ovens, two refrigerators, two dishwashers, and plenty of glasses and utensils to the industrial size coffee maker. We had plenty of space to spread out and eat in the dining room and covered deck directly off of it.

Overall we had an amazing week at Eagle Nest and if we can make it happen, we’ll be back.
