We found the 'Jewels' nestled in the hillside overlooking San Miguel, above the hustle & bustle but still in Historic Centro. In fact, just next door to the million dollar estate of Pedro Vargas and across the street from the former home of 'Cantiflas', Mexico's favorite comedian/actor of the past. Just a few doors from El Mirador (the city's famous lookout), you needn't come up just for a view of the city, you will have that view from the Jewels, all day, every day. Not from the rooftop, but from inside the suites.
Just blocks from the Jardin & above Juarez Park. From the moment you enter the entry way into the 'Jewels of San Miguel', you are transported from the colorful streets of San Miguel through the manicured garden - lush with evergreens, flowers and a trickling fountain...all sheltered by an overhanging 100+ year old Mesquite tree with the 'Jewel' pendant hanging over the central courtyard. The gardens and fountains are beautifully illuminated at night providing the 'setting' if you will, for each 'jewel'.
Uncompromising attention to detail was given to this majestic property by the previous owner (one of San Miguel's finest architects). Using only the finest materials, master artisans have skillfully crafted your 'home away from home.'
Rarely will you find an upscale rental in Centro that offers this level of style and sensual sophistication, combined with its convenient location and magnificent vistas of Historic San Miguel.

About Elizabeth Gordon
I am a retired airline employee, as such, I've been all over the world and have chosen San Miguel as my special retreat. I emphasize personal service but at the same time, I don't live in San Miguel but have great support staff there on the property daily to assist you.
Elizabeth Gordon purchased this Bungalow in 2013
Why Elizabeth Gordon chose Zona Centro
When I found the Jewels, it has a natural setting, feels incredibly open and airy and is a quiet refuge from the activities down below but is just minutes away by walking or if you don't feel like walking, transportation is readily available just steps from the Jewels.
What makes this Bungalow unique
It's unique due to all the touches it has, we don't furnish it with 'rental' type goods, we try to have the best quality furnishings, yet we're not asking high prices, our amenities are what sets us apart. You will be greeted with home made pastries and a steady flow of complimentary coffee. Purified water is supplied in the casitas, and each casita has its own kitchenette, We try to give added value to the guest's overall experience yet, not burden them with excessive fees and hidden costs. This is why we have free WIFI, Cable, long distance phone service to the US and Canada, and usage of our Netflix account. We furnish purified bottled water and housekeeping once a week with free light laundry service if you care for it. We feel you get the value for your money at the Jewels and on top of that, you get unmatched beauty in your surroundings.

A Wonderful Experience!
The Ruby at The Jewels of SMA was perfect. It is beautifully appointed, with a sitting area and fireplace, a lovely bedroom with much glass with a lovely view of San Miguel. It also has a large patio. We will definitely return!
Wonderful relaxing stay in San Miguel
My husband and I had a wonderful stay in Casita Ruby. The apartment was nicely furnished and beautiful decorated. The terrace was amazing, overlooking the city of San Miguel and the lake and mountains beyond. Transportation either by taxi or bus was a snap. We had planned to go on trips outside of San Miguel but we had such a wonderful time in the city and in our casita we decided to just stay in San Miguel. The owner was very helpful with recommendations and ideas for our stay. We enjoyed every minute of it!
Hi Karen, I would like to thank the two of you for coming down and spending day of the dead in Casita Ruby. I'm so glad you enjoyed yourselves, do come back and stay with us if you should return to the city, we'd love to have you back.
Topaz Casita - A bright and cheery retreat in San Miguel
My wife and I stayed two weeks in the Topaz Casita. The apartment was a real pleasure to return to after a day of walking all over San Miguel. We found the kitchen more than adequate for the kind of vacation cooking we were doing and the premises were charming to look upon. The tastefully executed Moorish theme was very much appreciated. I know that a previous review complained of the lighting; but, in my own opinion, the more than ten light fixtures in the unit were more than sufficient to illuminate every corner of the apartment. The apartment south wall (which was virtually all windows) gave truly spectacular views of the city. San Miguel itself really lives up to its hype as a UNESCO World Heritage City, the restaurants are first rate and the art studios and crafts outlets are worth seeing, even if you don't buy anything. And, lastly, the owner of the unit, Bebe Gordon, really went out of her way to make our stay a pleasure and my wife and I would really consider ourselves lucky to be able to rent from her again.
This was our 4th trip to San Miguel to rent for an extended stay. This was by far the biggest disappointment of all our previous rentals.
1. The location is on one of San Miguel's busiest street. If you choose to walk to the Jardin be
prepared to inhale a lot of pollution from buses and cars driving by.
2. Be prepared, if walking to do a straight downhill walk to Jardin and straight uphill for return.
My husband and I are very fit and do mostly walking. This uphill walk was ridiculous. Once
you enter the property, then there are close to 30 more steps to Topaz door.
3. The Topaz for extended stay is not what you want. It is in need of a renovation. The
bathroom tile was dirty and looked as though it had not been clean for sometime.
4. The decoration are everywhere and appear old and/or very low quality.
5. For a month stay, the property was not suitable due to location and quality. For what we
paid, we expected so much more.
6. Evening on the outside deck you are facing the sun. The patio is very uncomfortable and
My husband and I spent the month of January in this sweet little casita. The Moroccan inspired aesthetic was very soothing . The bed is only a double but extremely comfortable. The beautiful widow leading to the patio let in beautiful light during the day and we could even view the fireworks at night not only from the sweet patio but the luxury of our bed! There is a little kitchenette which came in handy for lazy breakfasts or late night snacks. A small canister of coffee and sweet little pies are provided for your first night. The fireplace worked beautifully and kept the casita toasty on chilly evenings. There is a large screen tv with Netflix capabilities which we used on chilly evenings sitting by the fire sipping hot cocoa. The wifi works great! The bath only has a shower but there is plenty of hot water and vanity space. The terry robes provided were wonderful for chilly mornings! I was concerned about closet space but the armoire ,desk drawers, and drawers under the bed provided more than enough. Knowing SMA I was worried the casita might be noisy from being so close to Miradore and the busses. As Bebe, the owner assured me " Topaz is called the tomb" and it was very quiet. The location is great. A bit of a struggle walking up hill at times but taxies are so reasonable and the bus stops just a stones throw away. This location made for fun excursions going up or down and our view from the patio was wonderful. There is a dome obstructing the Parroquia but it's no big deal. The rest of the view is marvelous! The patio furniture is very comfortable. There is a large table and chairs for dining and two chairs with a little table for relaxing. Bebe the owner made sure all our needs were met before and during our stay! I can't say enough about how attentive she was. She provided weekly email info on SMA. We will definitely be back!
Incredible views and lovely casita in SMA
Casita Ruby was a wonderful place to stay for our trip to SMA! It was even better than we expected and the photos don't do the Jewels justice. You walk in to a beautiful multilevel courtyard filled with plants, art, a water feature and seating to find the private entry to your casita (there are three). Ruby is so much better than staying in a hotel. Some of my favorite features are the perfect size of the casita, the natural light, and the great tub with a view. The best part, by far, is the large patio with magnificent views. The weather is just perfect and we spent a great deal of time on the patio in the lounge chairs. The hillside location provided the best views of SMA and a quiet break from the activity of the Jardin. I never even heard the guests in the other two casitas. We enjoyed the walk down the hill each morning. The return climb is a bit steep, but we liked the exercise, so we only took a cab a couple of times. I was concerned about the location before arriving because Google Maps isn't entirely accurate for SMA, but Bebe was kind enough to call me and explain exactly where the casita is located. She also gave us some great tips about the town. While cab rides are extremely inexpensive, we chose to walk to the places we wanted to visit. Our favorites:
La Fabrica Aurora - Galleries
Mercado Artisanians - Arts, crafts, souvenirs, food
Aperi - Amazing restaurant and dining experience (reserve a spot at the chef's table)
Cielo - Coctails and a perfect rooftop patio with an up close view of the Parroquia and the Jardin
El Charco del Ingenio Jardin Botanico - Beautiful botanical gardens and an easy hike
La Ventana - coffee
El Correo - Chilaquiles
Atotonilco - Sistine Chapel of Mexico, Folk art gallery, & Nirvana resort (about 20 minutes away and well worth the trip)
Churches - Too many to mention
Transportation and expert guide - We emailed Martin Juarez before our trip to arrange transportation to and from the airport. His prices are reasonable and he is an extremely reliable tour guide and a great guy. He also took us to Atotonilco. firstname.lastname@example.org.
Parque Juarez - A nice walk through the park on our way to the Instituto Allende
The Rosewood - Beautiful rooftop patio with great views
I definitely recommend Casita Ruby. Thank you Bebe!
The location is just steps away from the city's tourist lookout, El Mirador, a breathtaking view that you will have from any of the Jewel's private terraces. Quiet, private yet both busses ($.35) and taxis ($2.45) pick you up just outside the street entrance door. Such an easy location to navigate the town. Stay above the fray, the noise and traffic at the Jewels of San Miguel.
