We have lived on The Island for 40 years. We've been in local politics, owned businesses here, worked for local churches. We raised our family here and love what The Island has to offer. We designed and built the house in 1995, remodeled the kitchen in 2010. Everything is in beautiful condition.
Alice Tawresey purchased this house in 1995
Great home for family holiday or vacation. Convenient, beautiful, luxurious, relaxing. Large enough for a family with grandkids, etc.
Dogs will be considered after discussion with the owner.
Although it is salt water, the setting is like a Maine lake. Very green and quiet. Tide goes way out frequently revealing incredible wildlife.

Wow, where to start! When we began looking for homes in the area for our anniversary celebration and hosting our family of 12--ranging in age from 4 to70--we just kept thinking that this might be the ideal location. In fact, we wondered if could possibly be as nice as it seemed. . . Well, this home is even more lovely in person than as pictured. The ambiance, the light, the wonderful art work, a baby grand piano, and the various areas inside and out for gathering were all amazing. Having a dining room table and dishes to allow all 12 of us to gather for meals, and even fresh berries to pick from the garden--the whole week is embedded in our memory as the highlight of our 50th anniversary! It was hard to drive away...
Of course there was a lot to do in the area-- whale watching, ferry rides to Seattle, hiking in the nearby forest park, walking to town, kayaking in the bay, sitting around the outdoor fire, and enjoying the view from the hot tub. The children also loved the game room, and several slept there!
And finally, a big"thank you" to Alice for her warm welcome. She was most gracious when we asked to drop off belongings earlier than planned, and allowed us to include a beloved family pet for the week. We are so happy to have discovered this delightful home, and would love to return!
Excellent. The "finder" of your property was "universally" applauded. Beautiful home, lovely setting, close to the city, amenities, adventures. Now 60 yrs + reunion group gets together every 2 years even after 35 years. 6-7 couples (some occasionally without the spouse), we like adventures (not too extreme), cooking in a group, and hanging on the patio talking and laughing about our legendary (and sometimes imaginary, I suppose) adventures, now and in the past. Great to have the canoes and kayaks for pleasant paddling in Eagle Harbor. The visitors come from NH, Wisconsin, Oregon, Idaho, SF, DC, and SW Washington state. The lawn perfect for "ladder golf," bocce, croquet. The gardens lovely. The biking a bit arduous-this island is not flat-but doable, even for "older (but not old) geezers." The game room (Ping-Pong, pool, foosball) was nice.
Suggestions (not criticisms) previously communicated to the owner post visit:
We like to cook together - you were lacking a 12 skillet. Get an 8,10,12 inch non-stick skillet set.
In same vein, your knives were OK, but certainly could have use a sharpening (or simply buy a recommended sharper and keep it there).
The clam shells on the driveway and patio left by the gulls "cracking" clams lent a quaint and "seaside" touch, but probably should have been swept off before our arrival - it was cute, but bare feet and broken clam shell do not go together. Leave the push broom you lent us out and available or just blower it out prior to guest arrival. Very minor.
And finally, but also minor (and mentioned in my email to the owner), the bedrooms and bathrooms were lovely. But the commodes (toilets) are dated and while the flushing serviceable (although we had to plunge one of the guest bathroom toilets), it was slow (but successful). I would recommend "Comfort Height" (ADA height) toilets in the bath downstairs, the master and one guest bath. Maybe leave one regular height in one of the guests. Upgrade to the elongated models from the "round front." Flushing technology (yes, I am in the plumbing wholesale business) has improved greatly over the last 10-15 years and I think you can do better, even on less water. I want to emphasize this was very, very minor and probably only I gave this much thought.
We enjoyed another wonderful Thanksgiving on Bainbridge Island in this beautiful home. My family really enjoyed this comfortable (and expansive!) venue in a truly gorgeous setting.
The highlights of our stay:
- Canoeing on the completely calm and otherwise empty bay (no seals this year!)
- Enjoying sunrise from the hot tub on frosty mornings
- Night walks by flashlight
- ‘Smores by the firepit
- Fireside dinner by candle light during a (thankfully brief) power outage
- Near constant rounds of pool, foosball and pingpong with the kids
- Trips into town and various parks/playgrounds around the island!
Very highly recommended!
My family enjoyed a wonderful stay in this beautiful home. There were so many things to do from walking in the mud flats when the tide was out, canoeing, catching minnows, croquet and picking fruit, my four children were kept very busy. On the one day of rain, we fully enjoyed the foosball, ping pong and the pool table. It was a truly memorable stay in a very idyllic setting. The home is laid out so thoughtfully and every room felt spacious (even the laundry room!) We enjoyed walking to Winslow and catching the ferry to Seattle for the day or even just for dinner. The owner was so easy to work with and extremely accommodating. Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us. We hope to be back someday soon.
This beautiful property proved to be a perfect venue for our family reunion. Roomy, comfortable, amazingly well equipped for recreational activities. Especially appreciated was the huge game room with pool, ping pong and foosball. Beautiful patio with waterfront views; canoes and kayaks for great fun on the inlet. My family usually want different locations for our reunions, but now all want to return to this amazing home on Bainbridge Island. Very highly recommended.
There were several things that made your house ideal for us. The location within easy walking distance of the shopping area and the ferry afforded many joint excursions along the water front trail. The marked changes in tide, the blue heron nesting area, lots of woods made the trail and variations on it inviting. The location on a large lot that accommodated camping and portable toilet facilities allowed us to invite cousins for a couple of nights. The house itself was such a pleasure, the comfortable living and den was host to many separate but social events like playing the piano and singing. The wide vista from the outside patio area was almost constantly in use. The fire pit was great for the big gathering with s’mores. The big game room was the other area that was used a lot, particularly the teenagers day and night. The availability of the office was appreciated by two or three who had to tend business during the week.
So all in all it worked beautifully and I hope we can do it again.
Free parking near ferry dock. Walk on the ferry for a day in Seattle. Or, drive on to go to the mountains or nearby cities. Drive to the Olympic mountains (no ferry) or to the Pacific Coast.
