Spacious One Bedroom Apartment In The Historic Centre

This elegant apartment is beautifully designed and has French charm and style. It is in an eighteenth century building, in the heart of Bordeaux. The area is vibrant and lively, with bars, restaurants, cafes, shops and trams close by. It's ideal if you want to be in the heart of the action.

You enter a hallway leading to an unusually large and light living/dining room, with three sets of French doors opening onto Juliette balconies. There are excellent views towards the ever-changing Garonne river in one direction and down the sweep of neo-classical buildings on Cours d'Alsace Lorraine in the other.

The apartment is well ventilated in summer and windows are double glazed, so it is cosy in winter.

The contemporary kitchen is well-equipped with a dishwasher and microwave.

The comfortable double bedroom also has a set of French doors offering a view, while the thick curtains ensure you can sleep at any time of day. The bathroom also has a washing machine.

The bathroom has recently been renovated (January 2014), and contains a washing machine.

Bordeaux River View apartment is situated in the historic heart of the World Heritage listed city, close to all the major sights and an ideal location for visits to vineyards, the wine school, wine-tasting venues and French language schools.

Our English and French speaking caretaker will meet you and show you the apartment. She is on hand should you need any advice or assistance during your stay. There is a house book, containing restaurant recommendations, transport information and other services you may require. A maid service is available on demand.

Surrounding the apartment are streets and squares with literally hundreds of excellent bars and restaurants. There are also numerous markets nearby, selling everything from gourmet produce to antiques.

About a three minute walk away is the famous Rue Sainte-Catherine. At 1.2 kilometres, it is the longest pedestrian shopping street in France and features shops like Galeries Lafayette, Fnac, C&A, H&M, most of the major labels; plus a multitude of designer boutiques and specialty shops.

If you wish to venture further afield, the tram stop is about 20 meters from the apartment building, with routes which can take you all over the city. If outlet shopping is your thing, head for Quai des Marques, near Chartrons, where you will find lots of shops offering clothing and homewares at greatly reduced prices.

Just down the Quai Richelieu, which you can see from the apartment window, is the Place de la Bourse - the royal square built under Louis XV. The semi-circle of eighteenth century buildings is reflected in the shallow pool, the Miror d'eau, which in summer comes alive with people splashing, wading and making the most of the warm weather.

You can stroll or cycle along the linear park which follows the river, where families and friends picnic among the flowers.

If you would like to explore the wine region you can either rent a car or take one of the many small group tours available through Bordeaux Tourism. The tourist office is about a 10 minute walk, or a 3 minute tram ride away, near the Grand Theater.

Pros and cons

We were really looking forward to our stay in this apartment, but were disappointed upon arrival. The pros are that the location is great--lovely views, close to parking, sights, restaurants, shops, and an easy hop to Bourdeaux wine country. In addition, the manager is kind and attentive.

However, despite the fact that the apartment is non-smoking, it was clear when we walked in the door that previous guests did not take this requirement seriously. The apartment manager was very apolologetic and tried to do everything in her power to correct the situation but to no avail. The odor lingered and made the stay unpleasant. In addition, the city train runs right by the apartment, making quite a bit of noise throughout the day and night. The bar two floors down also gets noisy at night. In addition, the apartment had a dingy feel, different to what is presented in the photos. All in all, I would not stay there again.

A stop in Bordeaux with a view

We enjoyed our stay in this apartment. The pictures are representative of what is there. The only problem would be the stairs, there are 57 of them so after walking all day and the walk from the parking garage it can get old quickly. It has a great location and it's like being in a home away from home... there is a washer but no dryer which was a disappointment as I saved my laundry to do here at our half-way point around France. So if you don't mind stairs or don't intend to do laundry you will love it here!!!! The view is great too!

A week in Bordeaux

This one bedroom flat is perfectly situated on the river, halfway between St Michel and Place de la Bourse, with a lovely view of the Garonne. As such, it is two blocks from the A line tram stop Place du Palais and two blocks from the C stop at Port de Bourgogne. From there you can get almost anywhere on connecting tram lines and buses. My wife and I bought the week pass for 14 euro (well, mine was 9 because of my "senior" status), which allowed us unlimited tram and bus travel. We got our money's worth!

The apartment itself is clean, freshly painted, and tastefully furnished. The kitchen is adequately equipped with cooktop, oven, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, pots, pans, dishes, etc. The bathroom was recently redone, and has a towel warmer.

Charlotte met us at the place to give us keys and a thorough check-in. She was very helpful and available on short notice should the need have arisen.

All in all, the location is excellent with easy public transport access and a comfortable, tasteful, environment. My only concern on arrival was that the Irish pub on street level might be noisy, but the noise level was bothersome only the night of St Patrick's Day (how can you get mad at that?), and even then, it was no worse than most city noises. Otherwise, it wasn't a factor.

If we are so lucky as to return to Bordeaux in the near future, I would rent the apartment again in a heartbeat. Highly recommended.

This recently renovated apartment is on the third floor of an 18th century building in the center of World Heritage listed Bordeaux. There are wonderful views to the Garonne river in one direction, and right down the elegant Cours d'Alsace Lorraine in the other, through the three sets of French doors and balconies in the living room.

The apartment is tastefully renovated in a contemporary French style and is comfortable and inviting.

The windows are double glazed, ensuring it is warm and quiet.

There is a large lounge and dining room and one bedroom with a double bed. There is a fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, microwave and a well designed bathroom.

Wi-fi and Cable TV are included.

Taxis can stop close to the door and the tram stop is just metres away. There is also parking nearby.
