Located on a quiet street in South Nags Head, our cottage, Beach Blanket Bingo, takes you back to the Nags Head of the past. It has been at its current location since 1960, a year before Nags Head was incorporated as a town, but is thought to have actually been a part of a Civilian Conservation Corps camp on the Outer Banks from the 1930s playing a role in FDR's New Deal.
We purchased the bungalow in the spring of 2010 and have extensively renovated while maintaining it’s vintage charm and character. Step back to Outer Banks vacations of the past with mid-century style. Semi-ocean front four houses back from the beach, the front porch has a wonderful direct view of the ocean – perfect for enjoying your morning coffee or evening cocktail. It also has a full-screened back porch with partial ocean view.
The kitchen is fully renovated, completely equipped and has a washer and dryer. Bedroom 1 has a queen size bed. Bedroom 2 has a twin bed and twin trundle bed. There is one full bath and a large outdoor shower. Parking is available for two cars.
The National Seashore begins about a half mile south down the beach for quiet endless walks. Nags Head completed beach nourishment in the fall of 2012. Bodie Island lighthouse is also nearby. You have quick access to the Outer Banks Pier and Whalebone Junction area where you can enjoy the new Jennette’s Pier, restaurants, markets and the causeway to Manteo. Multipurpose sidewalks are along the beach road for biking, running and walking.
2014 is the first season the cottage has been available for rent for limited times since our ownership. Family and friends who have stayed share “It’s so fun. We love your cottage and location and the uncrowded beach!”
We do allow one to two well-trained small dogs. It is the perfect place for a romantic couple’s getaway or for a relaxing small family vacation.
