This turn-of-the-century, 1400 square foot Victorian has everything your family needs for a memorable vacation and is just a walk away from the beach, playground, and town. Majestic old spruce trees shade the house and expansive yard (3 city lots) for outdoor activities during the day and enjoying the night sky in the evening while sitting around the fire circle.

The kitchen and dining room have everything you need – from kitchen basics to some of the essentials you don’t want to pack or purchase for a week’s stay – things like paper goods, paper towels, soap, aluminum foil, herbs and spices, olive oil and vinegar. There is a gas grill for outdoor cooking along with owner-crafted family-sized picnic table. Not cooking while on vacation? Downtown restaurants are a fifteen-minute walk away or a breezy five-minute bike ride.

The living room expands into an enclosed three-season porch through double French doors – a favorite place for guests to read a book, enjoy a cup of coffee, or take an afternoon nap.

Sleeping accommodations include a king size bed in the master bedroom, a twin bunk in the second upstairs bedroom, and a queen size bed on the first floor. The porch has a daybed that can sleep one more and is outfitted with curtains that pull across the windows and French doors to allow privacy.

Enjoy South Haven on foot or bicycle – a common mode of transportation in and around town. Bike racks are conveniently located downtown and at the beach. Trail heads for the Van Buren and Kal-Haven bicycle trails are almost at the back door. Van Buren State Park is just a five-mile ride down the paved bike trail where you can lock up your bike and climb the dune! We provide 4 adult bikes, a child's bike, and a wagon for hauling your stuff (or little ones) to the beach, but you can bring your own or rent from the local bike shop.

Bed and bath linens are provided. The living room has a flat screen TV with DVD player. There is high-speed wireless internet service and plenty of movies, games, and books.

Great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time in South Haven staying here. We have 3 young kids, age 5, 3 and 5 months and this was great for us. The older kids loved the bunk beds, and the baby had his own quiet room for naps and sleeping. The house was better stocked than any rental we've stayed at previously. Anything you could need to cook dinner while you were there, and we didn't feel like we had to run immediately to the store to get things like soap and paper towels. It also had everything you could need as far as high chair, baby gate, pack n play, bikes, wagon, etc. Makes packing much easier :) The owners are very easy to book with and returned the security deposit promptly. The house was a short walk to a great park. We did walk to downtown a couple of times, but its also an easy drive (the walk was a little long for the kids) and we didn't have any trouble finding parking. Lots of places to eat and a charming downtown. It was a very nice and relaxing trip and a great place to stay!

A great vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at "Our Summer House" from July 23rd to July 30th, 2016.

The house was very clean, neat, organized, and was tastefully decorated. It had everything we needed, and more! Plenty of bath towels, paper products, kitchen gadgets (a potato masher!), books, games, DVDs - and we loved having the wagon (with lock!) for taking all of our necessities down to the beach. The owners responded quickly to any questions we had during the rental process - and even called us to make sure we were able to access the house. The yard is amazing, and the fire pit was perfect for s'mores after dinner. The kids played kickball, catch, corn hole, and frisbee with plenty of room.

We were happy with the location near the beach and Kids Corner Park, and our kids (8) had no problem walking into town for ice cream or a trip to their beloved toy store. We didn't mind not having a dishwasher at all - the only suggestion we could think of would be having a shower in the downstairs bathroom, but we got by.

I would definitely recommend this rental property for your vacation in South Haven.

What a lovely home and rental experience

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay at this house and would recommend it to others without reservation. Beautiful home that is very well equipped with all the basics that you need and even some more unusual kitchen items. Having corn on the cob? There are holders. Like to bake? There are pans and some dry goods available. Cooking? Nice selection of pots and pans. Bought a melon? Good knives and cutting board in the kitchen. There is a supply of baggies, foil and wraps, and so on. Lots of towels available for both bathrooms, and also in the kitchen. Extra linens also. The bunk beds had an extra mattress tucked underneath, which came in handy when my daughter decided she needed to be lower to the ground.

The house itself is wonderful with woodwork and character that you don't find often. The decor is practical and lovely. The lot is fantastic, and not adequately described with "big private yard." The house is on a corner with extra land, and there is so much space that it feels you have a small park next door. Lots of room to hang out around the fire pit, play in the yard, and let the kids run around. We enjoyed the toys and games that were available as well. The sun room is lovely and a nice spot to sit and have your morning beverage of choice and perhaps read a book. The location is great, close to the beach and to Kids Corner, which if you haven't been to SH is worthy of hours of play. The only downside to the house is the lack of a dishwasher, but not too big a deal. The lack of central AC might be an issue for more sensitive folks. We didn't have any scorching weather while we were there, but on the hotter days we found that running the AC units in the later afternoon was fine to cool things down.

The rental process was also quite easy, and we appreciated the informative e-mail we received prior to our stay with information about some of the local attractions and things that were within an easy drive. We went to St Joseph for a day and found the links and information very helpful. The security deposit was returned promptly as well. Very responsive owners and very easy to work with. Overall great stay!

Great vacation rental

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 4 rented this house for 10 days and were very pleased. It sits on the corner of a dead-end street which was great for letting our kids ride their bikes; something they are not used to in the city. The yard space is very large , and the fire pit was a nice ammenity. The location is just a few blocks from the playground, and a good 10 minutes walking to downtown. The house itself was incredibly well-organized and had a nice fully stocked kitchen with all the pots and pans and utensils we needed for cooking. There was a nice grill, laundry, ample linens and a great deal of space for us to enjoy. We would definitely recommend it!

Better late than never review

  • 5 of 5

Delayed review here... but wanted to make sure to tell anyone looking at this property that you won't regret it. The owners have thought of everything... truly, everything. Pack up your clothes and coolers and you're all set. Just a short walk/bike to the beach. After the beach... best time hanging out around the fire pit. Really private. The only... I mean ONLY complaint (which is hardly a big deal) is the lack of dishwasher.

Everything you need to relax with the family

  • 5 of 5

We brought two one-year-old children and a five year old. There was plenty of space for our two families and we never woke each other up. The entire house was clean and well stocked with all the essentials and more. LOVED the wagon and outdoor space! Coffee, beach, cute town and a great farmer's market are all with walking distance. It was a little hotter than normal when we stayed so we used the bedroom fans in the main living area but all other rooms were comfortable.
