About Olga Oros & Chip Holmes
What I do depends on the season and the location. During the summer months in Maine I run Damariscotta River Cruises with my partner, Captain Chip, who was born and raised in Maine, meet amazing people, film, take photos, learn a lot, have fun and tend my organic garden. In the cold months I'm back in New York City and hibernate in the editing room creating documentary films. And somewhere in between I visit my family in Budapest and friends in other parts of the world.

Clean, comfortable, stunning vintage decore
Enjoyed our stay immensely. Hostess was wonderful and accommodating. It was very relaxing staying on the boat. Convenient to all local restaurants and attractions. If you want a place to stay to just kick back relax and stay Off the Grid this was it. I would highly recommend it and surely will return in the near future.
Unique Experience in a beautiful setting
Our family of four (6&8) had a wonderful time on the boat. The boat was clean with room to roam inside and out. The boat sits at the end of the dock and you own the river view without obstruction off the starboard side. The owners are very accessible and helpful if needed.
Lovely unique experience
Olga & Chip were great & easily/quickly accessible. The Mazu was clean, inviting, and comfortable. There were fresh flowers, fruit, wine, and water waiting for us upon arrival. Our kids loved exploring the Mazu, inside and out, as it was such a unique experience for them. Damariscotta is lovely town with great restaurants & shops. It is also close to other nearby attractions such as beaches and lighthouses. We did happen to visit during the hottest day of the summer (102 heat index) so the 2nd night was rather uncomfortable as there were only 2 fans. The first night was cool, but there was a hip hop party taking place until 1:30AM at Schooner Landing Restaurant where we're docked. In my heyday I would have loved it, but not so much anymore. Larry, the nice neighbor, told us that this happened only once this summer. Of course, those were all uncontrollable things, which made the stay more memorable I guess :) We will definitely return!
Great Location! Perfect accommodations! Fun change from the normal vacation rental!
We had a great stay on the Mazu at the beginning of August. The boat was very clean and comfortable for our family of 3 and a nice change from the normal rentals we usually do on VRBO. The kayaks and canoes were a big hit to paddle around the area, and the little town was quaint and fun for shopping and restaurants. The boat is very well equipped and Olga and Chip were very good at communicating. We enjoyed coming home from a day of sight seeing and having a beer on the boat and listening to the music from the dock at Schooner's Landing. The festivities always wound down by 7:30-8:00pm, so it was nice and quiet in the evenings for sleeping. Damariscotta is centrally located along the coast so it was a convenient jumping off point to travel both north to Acadia and south to the beaches near Ogunquit.
Overall, beautiful area + great accommodations = perfect vacation.
Unique stay, lovely hosts
The "Boatel" Mazu is just as billed in the quaint little town of Damariscotta, and Chip and Olga were very flexible, welcoming us quite late in the evening. The two cabins were perfect for the 3 of us and it was great to rock to sleep on the very very gentle waves. My one recommendation is that if you are a coffee drinker, bring your own, or do what I did and walk over to the bookstore just steps away for an excellent cup that you can bring back to the boat and enjoy. Thank you, Chip and Olga. Wish we had been able to do one of your boat tours. Perhaps we'll be back!
Sweet Dreams Floating on the Damariscotta River
Man, this was the way to go. Beautifully refurbished cabin cruiser was our floating hotel, docked at Schooner's Landing restaurant and marina (easy parking right at the marina.). We stayed in the master stateroom, very comfortable size king accommodations, all the linens you'll need, typical head that you'd find on a boat like that, tight but very functional and clean. It was just two of us but there are forward "V" berths so four could stay very comfortably.
Nice galley which we didn't use much, so many cute places to eat steps away on Main Street. They do a great breakfast right across the street at Fernalds Country Store. We mostly just hung out on the boat, swimming of the aft deck. When the tide is going out from the Damariscotta River the water really warms up, spent a ton of time in the water.
We hung out on the fly bridge watching the tide change and surveying the scene on the docks. Great live music at Schooner's Landing on some evenings. And of course in between a few road trips to some great spots in the area, we just lay in the sun on the foredeck. There is something about sleeping on a boat, the gentle rocking, it's so peaceful. I can't recommend it enough. We'll surely be back.
The Twin Villages of Damariscotta - Newcastle conveniently located only 2 min. off of the major highway, Route 1, in Midcoast Maine. Damariscotta, the 'river of many fishes' in Abernaki Indian, is named for the alewives that annually migrate the Damariscotta River and then 'climb' the amazing fish ladder at Damariscotta Mills in order to spawn in the Lake. The river is also one of the northernmost mating grounds of the primitive and marvelous horseshoe crab. And these waters support seals, ospreys, bald eagles, king fishers, great blue herons, mackerel and stripe bass, just to name a few. Humans have also worked this river for about 13,000 years. Their most famous legacy forms immense, white oyster shell mounds on the riverbanks. These shell heaps are testament to the oyster beds that once produced shellfish one foot in diameter. Today the river produces farmed oysters and mussels you can sample in local restaurants. Mazu, your boat hotel, docks at Schooner Landing Marina where you can paddle our kayaks or canoe from, along the tidal Damariscotta River to catch the magical wildlife, timeless mansions and the working waterfront of oyster farmers, lobstermen and fishermen and visit the marvelous state park, Dodge Point, and its beach. During the day you also have the option of taking an Oyster Frams & Seal Watching Tour and sample the world famous oysters with Damariscotta River Cruises, and in the evening receive a complementary drink on us during the Happy Hour Cruise. Another day maybe walk around the twin villages to shop, visit art galleries, dine in one of the fabulous restaurants or take a short sightseeing trip to the historic lighthouse at Pemaquid Point, Pemaquid Beach, and the Colonial Fort Henry Williams, Boothbay, Round Pond, South Bristol with its swing bridge. If you are up for some outlet shopping, Damariscotta is only 45 min from Freeport's L L Beans and other stores. Portland is 1 hour drive and 45 min to Rockland / Camden. Or You might want to plan your vacation around one of the fun festivals in town. May has the Alewife Festival, the Pirate Festival is in June, last Sunday of Sept is the Oyster Festival and Columbus Day Weekend is the Pumpkin Festival & Regatta.
