PINE KNOLL SHORES PROUDLY ENJOYS A SUBSTANTIAL RETIRED POPULATION FROM THE EAST COAST & THE MIDWEST. MY NEIGHBORS INCLUDE PEOPLE FROM NY, IN, PA, MD, MA, MI, MO, NJ, CN, IL & WVA.
UPON RENTAL PAYMENT, all renters receive a list of:  places to eat;  places to play;  socializing places catering to couples, young & old;  outdoor sports;  fishing guides &  places of interest.
As an experienced owner I am accustomed to helping renters acclimate to the beach, find the amenities they wish. As old surf fishers, I help others to fish the surf &, above all, make your vacation the best possible. In the local surf we catch mullet, blues, croaker, flounder, pompano, spot, drum, trout, mackerel & many others.
Also, a list of places to eat, amenities, beach rentals, places catering to families & couples, as well as other conveniences.

East Coast cities awake! Easy access on the I-95 corridor, great travel times to my house, esp. Metro Baltimore, Washington, Richmond & Petersburg, VA. Virginia Tidewater cities a short beautiful ride. Winston-Salem, Greensboro & Raleigh areas enjoy fine access with I-40 to Hwy 70 to the bridge from Morehead City to Atlantic Beach, adjoined by Pine Knoll Shores.

Built in 1990 by two sisters for their families, the floor plan offers two bedrooms & a bath with a shower on each side, a pocket door for privacy; living area has a great room, kitchen & a cathedral ceiling with skylights; also, two Western style porches for its complete length, back is screened, plus a full basement, with bathroom & shower, laundry room & a garden hose to remove sand. house at Hawthorne & Mimosa. Short walk on Mimosa to the main, private access beach for Pine Knoll Shores, with private parking lot, large dune-top deck, large table & plenty sitting benches, OVERLOOKS OCEAN. Renters enjoy access gate pass.
At Pine Knoll Shores, amenities are close & plentiful. On island, grocery store (Food Lion), hardware (Ace), MOVIE, US Post Off., Bogue Banks Library, a half mile, with free computers; house has wireless internet; excellent eats on island's east end: Channel Marker, Clam Digger, Diner, McCurty's. & Big Oak
My 1950s, Bertie County Small Town was equally divided by loyalist for WAKE, DUKE, STATE & CAROLINA. The good natured ribbing we enjoyed documents the good fortune for our home state to have these four great universities and many others.

Our home at 160 Hawthorne Drive, Pine Knoll Shores, NC provides two families or two couples an ideal location assuring optimal beach access with privacy for relaxation and sleep. Within Pine Knoll Shores our corner lot at Mimosa and Hawthorne provides easy access [0.3 mile] to the town's primary private beach for homeowners & their renters. Renters have gate passes to this beach with a private parking lot, a very large situm deck on the top of the dunes overlooking the ocean for sight seeing, one can enjoy lunch or dinner on the large wooden tables provided with substantial bench seating on two levels. The beach is clearly marked down to the ocean & owner volunteers maintain this excellent amenity.
Pine Knoll Shores is considered by many North Carolinians as one the state's finest beaches because of it extensive maritime forest, being a community that is overwhelmingly made up of single family detached homes on wooded lots, the absence of the commercialism abundant in the adjoining town of Atlantic Beach & on Highway 70 in Morehead City over the bridge connecting the east end of Bogue Banks barrier island to the mainland. It is a short drive over the bridge to the mass marketers you will leave at home including Walmart, Kmart, Staples, Belks, Best Buy, Walgreens, Harris Teeter, Lowe's Foods, Lowes for hardware, lumber & flowers, trees, etc. and many others.
On the the barrier island is located Ace Hardware, Food Lion, Bogue Banks Public Library with free computer use [1/2 mile from 160 Hawthorne], a book store with NYT & WSJ each day, a movie theater, critical mass of bait and tackle shops, boat launching facilities & numerous good restaurants [I provide a list of them above]. Another important convenience to renters is the closeness of the house to island's east end bridge to the mainland, Morehead City & Beaufort. This east-west barrier island is connected to the mainland by two bridges. On the mainland, Morehead City on the east and Swansboro on the west, the commercial establishments possess greater depth and more sophistication on the island's east end, than one finds on the more isolated west end that serves Emerald Isle & Swansboro. It is a twenty five mile island with 35 and 45 mile an hour speed limits in the towns of Atlantic Beach, Pine Knoll Shores, Indian Beach & Emerald Isle. On this island, location is importantly connected to service conveniences. The heaviest concentration of skilled workmen is definitely more concentrated and available on the east end of it including automobile agencies & repair from Morehead City to New Bern.
The living area floor plan provides two bedrooms & a full bath on each side of grand public room. Each side has a pocket door that can be closed if one wishes more privacy. The house was built in 1990 by two sisters who
created a place to comfortably house two families or two couples. All four bedrooms have ceiling fans.
The east side has a queen size bed in one room and standard bed in the other with a TV, two chests with mirrors in each room, with numerous drawers & a large two door closet in each room. There is a full bathroom with a shower, sliding doors and a mirror over the sink. Also, on this side, on the interior hallway, are two smaller closets, one used for sheets, towels and other necessities & the other available for use.
On the west side, there are two bedrooms one with a king side bed, a chest with numerous drawers, a mirror, lamps, a large two door closet & a TV. The other bedroom has a standard size bed & a half bunk style bed. Also, it has a large chest with numerous drawers & a mirror. Further, there is a computer, with wireless internet in this bedroom. On this side, there is a full bathroom with a large mirror, numerous drawers below the sink & a closet for towels, sheets, etc. It has a shower & tub combination for bathing.
The grand room possesses two sofas, a large coffee table, two end tables with large lamps, a dark blue leather recliner, with a floor lamp & a TV with cable. This room, the bedrooms & hallways are all covered in an indoor carpet. There is a large ceiling fan in this living area.
The kitchen has a refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, microwave, extensive utensils, knives, forks, spoons, knives for cooking, pots, pan, coffee pot, table and chairs, with four stools at a counter for children.
A large Western style porch runs the full length of the house, front and back. The back porch is screened in with cushioned outdoor furniture. The front porch has four large chairs & two table.
The yard fills with large pine trees, ferns, berry trees & living oaks. The yard is natural with a pine straw bed. The concrete driveway is located off of Mimosa with the house address on 160 Hawthorne.
There is a double driveway & 1100 sq. ft. basement for a small boat, storage and two cars.

About the owner: I was born in Halifax County, NC; raised in Bertie County, NC. Both of my parents were raised in rural Nash County, NC. It feels like home to me as well. My wife was from Charlotte, NC. We graduated from Mars Hill Jr. College and Wake Forest before marrying in 1960. Our son and daughter were born in 1962 and 63.
Why the Owner Chose Pine Knoll Shores, NC, USA:
Several of the primary reasons for my purchasing this house & property are:  the proximity of it to the Gulf Stream assuring warmer weather & water plus producing excellent sport fishing, surf fishing, south of Cape Hatteras, is a natural part of the local fishing environment, due to closeness of the Gulf, unlike north of Cape Hatteras due to the colder ocean water, even in August, produced by the Virginia currents;  the optimal convenience of the house on the corner [Hawthorne & Mimosa] only 0.3 mile from a gated parking lot, situm deck & providing unique, uncrowded access to the ocean;  the excellent sea breeze that travels directly to my house & my bedroom down Mimosa Drive;  as a senior person who has spent a substantial part of his life on the Outer Banks vacationing & fishing, the middle of island location provides the best protection of property during high seas, winds & storms;  the beautiful maritime forest that surrounds my house so close to the ocean & Bogue Sound; Pine Knoll Shores is the jewel of Bogue Banks & the beach areas south of Cape Hatteras to South Carolina's heavier commercial beaches;  every cost of living at Pine Knoll Shores on the ocean & sound is broadly cheaper than north of Cape Hatteras & south of Bogue Banks;  the inspirational beauty of sea, sky & landforms, especially sunrises & sunsets, since retirement I have taken up ocean photography with pleasure;  the closeness of my location to my extended family & my hometown in Bertie County;  the primary residential nature of Pine Knoll Shores with single family, detached homes, most with beautiful wooded lots [a rarity along the NC coast]; &  the outstanding commitment of Pine Knoll Shores to excellence in the provision of services,i.e,, the Bogue Banks Public Library with free computers, internet & wireless a short distance from 160 Hawthorne Drive.

As a person born and raised in North Carolina with great familiarity with state's beaches along the northern and southern Outer Banks, no location or community can match the blend of access and privacy one finds in Pine Knoll Shores. Each person has the choice to be as public or private as they wish.
