Diane has successfully worked in major commercial and residential property development and nursing before taking over as project manager for developing this unique Seward vacation rental. It is my goal to provide the very best Seward, Alaska can offer its visitors. My goal is provide a vacation home experience that offers an adventure you will never forget. Owners live quietly on-site below in the walk-out home and will provide daily maintenance of the exterior property, bicycles, restocking fire pit logs, emptying exterior trash bins and maintaining sauna/cabin .
Diane Hunt purchased this house in 2013
Location, location, location is reason number one for choosing Great Bear. Great Bear Vacation Rental is located in a quiet cul-de-sac in town yet is within walking distance to everything in Seward. This vacation home has SIX ADULT BICYCLES included, no extra fee. Cabin with Dry Cedar Sauna is also a feature of this property, also in the cabin is an extra family room, that is near the fire pit.
The great room has tall eighteen (18') foot ceilings and a beautiful western-themed chandelier. It also offers a high-end wood pellet stove to keep yuou cozy day and night no matter the weather. All bedrooms have high ceilings, unique and simple decoration, very comfortable bedding, many pillows, electric blankets, AND the necessary thermal blackout-blinds. Everything is fresh and clean. If you like to cook outside, we provide a large BBQ grill for your convenience. For long summer evenings enjoy the fire pit area out back. The seasoned wood pile is tall and ready to burn.
This log cabin home is fabulous! Beautifully decorated, great art, fabulous kitchen and bathrooms, and very inviting bedrooms / living areas. There's also a loft area upstairs which would make this a great home for families. We (three couples) spent the end of each day enjoying drinks outside by the fire pit. It was so relaxing. Bikes were available for us to take in to town. And we also took advantage of the sauna, a great amenity to ease aching muscles after long hikes, bike rides and days on our feet. The location is fabulous -- just a short walk to the Chamber of Commerce, where you can catch a circulator bus that transports you around town. We enjoyed the behind-the-scenes tour at the Alaska Sea Life Center (it felt like an episode of Wild Kingdom!), a six-hour cruise with Kenai Fjords Tours (really well done and professional), a fat bike tour of Resurrection Bay with Karl from Seward Bike Tours (awesome), and some major walks exploring the town. Lunch at Chinooks was great and we enjoyed a blast from the past at Thorn's Showcase Lounge (try the bucket of butt). We also visited the Library and watched a documentary on the Iditarod. What really made this house special is the hospitality of the hosts. They are knowledgeable about the town and went out of their way to make us feel at home and welcome in Seward. Not only do we recommend this home, but we can't wait to go back!
We loved Diane's home in Seward!! It was beautiful and she had thought of everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. Every day we would go on a new adventure but we couldn't wait to come back to the house at night to relax. We wished we'd had more time to use the bikes, sauna and fire pit. We would highly recommend this property and would stay there again.
Diane was a fantastic person to rent from. The house is in a great location. The kitchen was fully stocked with spices, kitchen supplies, laundry detergent, etc. My whole family enjoyed hitting the sauna after a long day of adventures. Our stay in Seward could not of been better. The large screen tv was a plus for watching the olympics. I would definitely recommend renting from Diane.
This place and the owners are amazing! We, a group of 7, spent a week at the house the end of July and loved every minute! The house is very clean, nicely furnished and extremely comfortable! It has everything you need to fully enjoy yourself. The kitchen has everything for cooking your own meals and the back yard is great for barbequing and hanging out by the fire pit. The house is located on a quiet street just a short walk or bike ride (which are provided) from shopping, restaurants, bars and the port. Jim and Diane are great hosts and go above and beyond to ensure you have a great stay. They also gave us great suggestions on things to do in the area. I highly recommend this place to anyone planning a trip to Seward! I can’t wait to go back!
This was my first experience staying in a VRBO and it was absolutely AWESOME!!!! I loved the cabin like atmosphere with high ceilings, cedar inside and out and lots of really cool fishing and hunting, outdoor wall decor. Much more than I expected. Our family loved it! We were within walking distance to town and to the harbor. There were lots of shops and restaurants close by. You could book a fishing trip, train ride, boat cruise, Kayaking lessons more all at the harbor. We actually spent more time at the house than we had planned because we all enjoyed it so much. We will definately return.
If you want the best vacation in Alaska this is the perfect home to accommodate a family for a vacation. The home is extremely clean and furnished to give you a mountain cabin experience with all the modern amenities you will ever need. Diane and Jim were great!!! They gave us great recommendations for sight seeing tours, fishing charters and places to visit which made our experience in Seward incredible. If you want to have a vacation of a lifetime and be treated like family this is the vacation home for you. My family is already asking me when do we get to go back!!
