The "Never Stuffy" Family Retreat

  • 4 of 5

This home is very spacious and reminiscent of a vintage family home, located in a pristine beach community. It accommodates all amenities including quiet living room and family room spaces, perfect for both quiet time and social gatherings. Plenty of bathrooms to go around make for convenience. This double lot size is an amazing space for pets, bbq's and fire side hot dog roasts. Previous reviews indicated the deficiency in designer, 5 star quality provisions. But don't mistake this property for a dump. Sure there's some room for minor updates and such. But aren't there always? Not wise to expect an estate in the Hampton's...but DO expect to have an good ol' fashioned and relaxing stint at the beach!

Lovely and quiet property

  • 5 of 5

This property is even lovelier than it looks in the photos. It is on a quiet dead-end street of lovely homes and surrounded by mature trees that ensure privacy and keep the house cool in the summer. The large fenced-in back yard is a huge plus for dog-owners, and there is a spacious side yard as well. We had one problem, which was some missing boards in the fence; however we called the property managers and within 2 hours the problem was fixed. The Gearhart beach is a natural wonder. Uncrowded and flanked by grassy dunes, it stretches for miles. Yet the fun and crazy bustle of Seaside is just 5 minutes away. We really enjoyed our stay and did not want to leave!

Fun and Funky Rental

  • 5 of 5

This house is a great walking distance to the downtown Gearhart and the beach. You can hear the ocean at night from the master bedroom. The house was very clean and offered all the amenities needed.

It's an old house and kind of funky.

  • 3 of 5

It was a place to stay and was in a quiet neighborhood. It's close to the beach and not far from McMenamins. Everything else about the house was not great. Not as appealing as the pictures. Mind you, it was clean (I think) and dry, and had everything a person needs to stay away from home. You just need to know what you're getting into. If you do then chances are it might be fine.

The beds are creaky and have funky coverings. One of the twin beds is so worn out in one spot that it makes the occupant lean to one side while laying down. The couches in all locations are very old and worn and a little grungy feeling. In the portions with carpet there are stains here and there. Overall it just has the feel of not being clean, though it probably is? It's like everything was purchased at a secondhand store to fill the needs of the house.

I hate to leave a bad review, but I wish I would have been more aware of what I was renting. Next time I won't save the $30 a night over a nicer place.

Poorly maintined property in a lovely town

  • 1 of 5

We love Gearhart and decided to spend a week there with some friends in March 2017. I found this property on various websites and since it appeared to be nice based on the photos and was cheap, I booked it. I will always pay more for something else in the future. The property itself is sadly neglected with moss so thick on the roof it is pushing up underneath the shingles. Paint is peeling off of the siding in the back yard and there are holes in the fence from missing boards. This property is advertised as dog friendly with a fenced back yard and I'm glad none of us had dogs. There is a tree in the back yard about 50 feet high with several large broken limbs dangling over the back yard. And that's just the exterior.

The interior was also disappointing. The first thing we noticed was the door seals on both the fridge ane freezer were damaged and falling out and the doors did not seal properly. While we were there the fridge leaked on the floor and when a maintenence man came by to look at it, he took the drawers out of the fridge and there was a ring of mold all the way around the wallls of the fridge. Two of the three bedrooms are in an attic space as well as one of the baths, so it is important to watch your head. The stairs to this area are very steep and the treads are short.

We found garbage in all the drawers of the furniture in the house. Literally, every bureau had a combination of candy wrappers and/or used tissues in them. There was a giant sticky spot on the floor under the dining room table and one of the chairs was stuck to the floor. The bathrooms were reasonably clean and the kitchen, with the exception of the refrigerator, was reasonably clean except for some of the mugs and glasses in the cupboards which were dirty. The suite above the garage had a treasure trove of garbage behind the furniture at the head of the bed.

This house is located an easy four block walk to the beach and two block walk to the center of town. We are pretty low maintenence people, but there were so many little things in this house that were broken or didn't work properly that it was pretty disappointing.
