The Cleo Beachfront is located on Patricia Bay in the Saanich Inlet, one of only 3 bodies of water like it in the world. The topography of the Bay makes it a spectacular environment for bird and marine life. Bald eagles and Great Blue Herons are seen almost daily at close range as they fly past the deck of the cottage to land in the trees at the edge of the property. In addition to being a rich feeding and resting spot for migratory birds, the bay is a destination for an assortment of marine mammals including seals, otters and harbour porpoises.
Other wildlife abounds as a result of the rural nature of the property - owls, hawks, ravens, bunnies, squirrels and the delightful quail are all frequent visitors.
The Oceanside deck provides plenty of room to relax. The property is south facing and so enjoys both sun and summer full moons.
Spend the day at the beach where summer water temperatures are warm enough to enjoy long and leisurely swims. Other water sports include kayaking or canoeing and on windy days kite boarders and wind surfers take to the water. The water is warm enough to enjoy night swims under the stars and experience the incredible bio-luminescence which will give your movements the magic of sparkling light.
The cottage has an old fashioned charm and all rooms have views of the ocean or the garden. The large master bedroom has a king size bed and windows on 3 sides to enjoy the views and fresh sea air. The second bedroom has 2 queen size beds and a view of the ocean and a bathroom is just outside the door.
The kitchen provides plenty of room for 2 or more cooks, and the open floor plan of the main living area with a large stone fireplace between them allows a warm energy to flow through and around the spaces.
North Saanich is 10 minutes from the town of Sidney and 20-30 minutes to Victoria, the capital of the province of B.C.
The Cleo beachfront is well suited to couples or couples with one or two children over 6 looking to enjoy a peaceful oceanfront vacation. Steep stairs to the beach require care in descending.
Also on the property is a small caretaker's cabin which is approximately 150 feet from the house on the driveway side to ensure the 2 acre property and summer flower gardens are maintained for your enjoyment. Your complete oceanside privacy is unaffected.

Raised in Vancouver and a Vancouver island resident for 25 years, I have owned the Cleo Beachfront for 23 years. The property, although originally built on in 1946 has had only 2 owners.
Janice Seaker purchased this house in 1991
Destiny. I knew I would buy this property when I was only halfway down the driveway the first time.
This property puts the cycle of life squarely in front of you. You are very close to nature here. In the spring, the birds and the bees start their dance; the herring spawn; the birds fly by with sticks and grasses as they make their nests, the frogs sing and the eagles call. In the fall, the salmon rest before heading to spawning streams. This too brings in many eagles who you may see plummeting to the ocean to catch a fish before flying into one of the trees on the property to eat it. The Canada geese start to arrive in late July or August to rest before heading north to feed. I have had personal experiences with orphaned seagulls, a heron, a raven and crows all of whom I have fed until they were ready and able to rejoin their brethren. (and an interesting fact is that they do not 'always come back' - happily, they return to the real life).
This property is very private, and is a haven away from city life. The darker skies of the rural community allow for excellent star gazing and the warm water temperatures allow for the most spectacular summer swimming - don't just dip - but get your exercise!
Awesome place..the views can't be beat..one level, lovely master bedroom ( didn't want to get out of bed in the morning) beautiful grounds, walk along the beach and enjoy the birds and long distance views, only 20 minuted to Victoria. Everything was wonderful...thanks Janet for letting us enjoy your home

My partner and I were very happy with the "Cleo" cottage and found that it's comforts really enhanced our relaxing holiday. The deck became our centre of living because the weather was great and the view of the water and its interesting activities always gave us something to look at. We were entertained by some happy splashing seals and of course the never ending chorus of geese conversation, so we always had our nature experience when on deck. Gradually we got used to the engine noise of the planes getting ready to land at the Victoria International Airport so the view of the different planes added to the "show" from the deck. The owner, Janice, was there to greet us and show us the ropes so to speak, so we knew how to operate the kitchen and all the different composting procedures. The cottage itself was very graciously furnished and the bed was just right as far as sleeping is concerned - we both had the best sleeps ever. I would say this was one of the best holiday experiences we have had - thanks, Janice.
Janice is a lovely hostess. She is available but out of sight, so you always have a sense of privacy. Home is elegant, with a spacious central area. Down the stairs to the bay where you can swim during high tide. Close to sidney and the nearest grocery store. The airport nearby may cause consternation to some, but you hear a plane perhaps 6 or 7 times a day, and it is very fun to watch them land.
Janice was really friendly and helpful. The house was awesome and allowed for day trips to Sydney and Victoria.
Upon arrival, magnificent gardens greeted us and a warm welcome from Janice. The interior of the Cleo feels like a big warm hug!! The kitchen is a chef's dream, open, spacious and well equipped. Comfy everything! beds and chairs, deck - which is partially covered, we loved that we could sit outside in the rain! Beautiful views to the bay from all rooms.
The water is indeed crystal clear at the beach. We loved watching the harbour porpoise from shore - if all is quiet, you can hear their breath as they surface. In the evening when the water was calm, the bald eagle would fish right in front of us. Swooping down with his big talons into shoals of small schooling fish that were near the surface.
We also loved that little market just up the road from the house. Fresh local produce, unique locally made goodies from chocolate to BBQ sauce. The Cleo is a short drive (or bike ride!) to Sidney, while we were visiting we went whale watching with the local operator, twice! The orcas put on an amazing show, breaching, tail slapping, spy hopping! they were actively hunting. We felt so lucky to be able to have this experience. We were also lucky to be in town on a Thursday evening, which is when the farmers market is. Vibrant and unique vendors, it was a fun event, even in the rain! We also appreciated that Janice is an enthusiastic recycler. When you travel a good deal and start to notice all the waste produced by travel, it's important to us that try and keep our waste in check. Often hosts don't offer the opportunity, so it was great we could recycle on vacation with little hassle.
We've rented numerous properties and this is certainly one of our favorites. We are an active family of three (son is 10) and we love day tripping, hiking, exploring, the ocean and all it's creatures, enjoying everything made locally on our vacations, and this property fit us perfectly! We hope to be back!! thank you!
Our family just returned from our second stay at Cleo cottage. The house and gardens are just as lovely and peaceful as we remembered them. There's a new cooktop stove. And the wifi has been upgraded. The house was clean and tidy. The owner is very attentive. It's such a beautiful, relaxing place! We hope to return again often.
