About Jennifer Murphy
We started coming to the Smokies in 2006 and have come back every year since. We finally decided this is where we want to spend our retirement. But we still have some years until that happens so we decided to buy a cute cozy cabin in the community of Shagbark. With the hopes of staying and sharing it with others until we make the big move for good. We love everything about Tennessee & are so happy to own a little piece.
Jennifer Murphy purchased this Cabin in 2014
Why Jennifer Murphy chose Sevierville
We chose The Hiking Bear property because of its beauty and location in the Village of Shagbark, a residential community in Sevierville, Tennessee—just a stones throw from Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, the Foothills Parkway, and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Our community is a gated, 24-hour guarded village of nearly 1,300 acres of mountainous woodlands. It's a secure, quiet, peaceful retreat that offers an escape from the days excursions to nearby Dollywood, Ripley's Aquarium, Cades Cove, the dozens and dozens of Smoky Mountain hiking trails, and the arts and crafts community. We love it and we are sure you will too.
What makes this Cabin unique
We love the Shagbark Community it is private and feels like your away from it all, but yet you are only 7 miles to the Parkway. Its gated and has 24/7 security which we love. With 1300 acres its like our own park with our own wildlife to enjoy. We decorated with love for Bears and things that represent Tennessee. The Hiking Bear is our cabin name as we love to Hike the trails and we love to observe the Bears from a distance so a Hiking Bear it is. We hope you enjoy the cabin and the home like feel we have tried hard to create for our guests. Also if you are looking for a larger place we have another cabin please check our other listing VRBO Listing #814038

Awesome getaway, beautiful cabin
Beautiful cabin. Close to Pigeon Forge but cabin is quiet and remote. Owners were great and quick to respond to questions. Thank you for letting us bring our fur babies! Highly recommend this cabin.
Had everything one would need for the prefect weekend get away!
The perfect little cabin
The Hiking Bear Cabin was so cute. We loved the double sided fireplace, gated community and the seclusion of the cabin. It was close enough to town yet still offered peace and quiet. The owners are very responsive and accommodating. Highly recommend it!
Great vacation getaway
Loved the location of the property, away from everything but also a short drive to get to town. beautiful scenery, if you're not used to mountain terrain drive back to the cabin could be a bit much. The only complaint is the hot water, not enough to fill the garden tub, unless you like a colder tub. There is a hot tub on the back deck though so not a big deal, and it was nice and warm. There was only one butter knife contacted the owner who was unaware and will fix it for the next guests. The property is in a gated community so you do need a pass to be able to get back to the cabin. I got a text message there was a tree in the road while staying there, so we weren't surprised on our way out. Overall excellent place to stay!!
hide away from the hubbub of pigeon forge
The Hiking Bear was a fantastic little getaway for a cold, rainy spring weekend... definitely glad we chose to stay there instead of a local hotel, as we were able to sleep in, make brunch in the kitchen and sip coffee for a few hours in front of the gas log fireplace. It is within an hour's drive of the Great Smoky Mtns and Cade's Cove, and even though we weren't able to hike due to the weather we could still drive and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Highly recommend this property if you want to get away from the masses in Pigeon Forge!
