About Jennifer Murphy

We started coming to the Smokies in 2006 and have come back every year since. We finally decided this is where we want to spend our retirement. But we still have some years until that happens so we decided to buy a cute cozy cabin in the community of Shagbark. With the hopes of staying and sharing it with others until we make the big move for good. We love everything about Tennessee & are so happy to own a little piece.

Jennifer Murphy purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Jennifer Murphy chose East

We chose The Hiking Bear property because of its beauty and location in the Village of Shagbark, a residential community in Sevierville, Tennessee—just a stones throw from Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, the Foothills Parkway, and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Our community is a gated, 24-hour guarded village of nearly 1,300 acres of mountainous woodlands. It's a secure, quiet, peaceful retreat that offers an escape from the days excursions to nearby Dollywood, Ripley's Aquarium, Cades Cove, the dozens and dozens of Smoky Mountain hiking trails, and the arts and crafts community. We love it and we are sure you will too.

What makes this cabin unique

We love the Shagbark Community it is private and feels like your away from it all, but yet you are only 7 miles to the Parkway. Its gated and has 24/7 security which we love. With 1300 acres its like our own park with our own wildlife to enjoy. We decorated with love for Bears and things that represent Tennessee. The Hiking Bear is our cabin name as we love to Hike the trails and we love to observe the Bears from a distance so a Hiking Bear it is. We hope you enjoy the cabin and the home like feel we have tried hard to create for our guests. Also if you are looking for a larger place we have another cabin please check our other listing VRBO Listing #814038

Adorable and well maintained.

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay tremendously. We had everything we needed and loved the cozy feel and the decor of the cabin. We especially enjoyed the double sided fireplace and the hot tub. It was a peaceful location yet not too far from Pigeon Forge and all the attractions. Would love to come back and stay again in the future. Perfect for a couple's get away.

Great week in the Smoky Mountains

  • 5 of 5

Nice little cabin with amazing privacy in a gated community. Very fun drive up the back roads to the cabin. We have a Jeep and didn't have any problems but I wouldn't have felt so good in a small car but plenty of other people seemed to do just fine.

Cabin was just as it appeared in the photographs. Very clean and everything was in working order for us when we got there.

One morning the power was out when we woke up, I emailed Jennifer to see if she knew anything. Within 15 minutes she had responded and let us know the electric company was doing some repairs and it would be back up shortly. We ran out for a quick breakfast and everything was fine when we got back.

The gas grill is directly hooked up to the gas line so plenty of gas to grill up anything you want. Hot tub worked great. The jacuzzi tub in the bedroom looks cool but the hot water heater doesn't have enough capacity to fill it up before running out of hot water.

Overall we loved our stay at the Hiking Bear and would be happy to return. We would certainly recommend this property to friends / family.

Owner's Response: Sounds like you had a great week at the cabin and enjoyed the grilling on the deck too. Perfect. We are happy you used all the amenities the cabin has to offer. The roads in the area are well maintained by our community so you never have to worry about a car truck or motorcycle all our guests have arrived with no problem at all. Thank you for spending your vacation at The Hiking Bear and we hope you visit again next year.

Charming Private Cabin in a Beautiful Mountain Setting

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was excellent- Jennifer thought of everything. I packed too many items from home that I didn't need (because I never expect this kind of thoughtfulness and attention to detail.) We felt so comfortable at the Hiking Bear and had a wonderful time! What a beautiful and charming cabin with everything you could want and need for convenience and contentment- the decor is tastefully appointed and you enjoy so many amenities. It's a fun place for kids too- my young boys loved it. This is rustic luxury that is private but safe and close to everything! This is very close to Pigeon Forge for those interested in visiting Dollywood.
