About the property

2 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 4-5; 5 maximum guests

Our cabin is a two bedroom, one bath arrangement; the living room, dining and kitchen area along with one bedroom, laundry and bathroom are located on the first floor. On the second floor is a large bedroom with twin beds and a sofa bed. Both bedrooms and living room have 36' TV's with Direct TV satellite and NetFlix. Wireless is also available, along with central HVAC, emergency lighting and generator.

Cabin is decorated very nicely with many antiques, original art, pottery, and accessories, white pine floors.

Enjoy cool summer evenings on the covered front porch with dining table/chairs, and comfortable seating. In summer, you will be entertained by the visitors to two humming bird feeders - the small birds often zooming from one end to the other through the porch. Cook dinner on the gas grill on detached deck surrounded by woods and seasonal gardens. The open covered car shelter with motion detected lighting is only steps away from the entrance. Ceiling fans in bedrooms, living room, porch.

Kitchen is fully equipped with refrigerator with ice maker, dishwasher, smooth top stove and oven, garbage disposal, microwave, toaster oven, two coffee pots, and typical pots/pans/utensils. English china and stainless steel flatware for eight. Also provided are typical spices, cocktail and dinner napkins, paper towels, new dish cloths/towels, etc.

Kayak and paddle boat are available to guests; lake has several docks and is about a 5 minute walk from house. An electric golf cart is also included in the rental; available for use by responsible adults or younger guests, with adult supervision.

A very quiet area, about half the homes are permanent residences. Our cabin was constructed in 2009, and has been offered for rent since 2014. All linens and towels are provided.

Cabin sleeps four very comfortably but can accommodate up to five; we prefer no more than 5 people. There is a sleeper sofa in upstairs BR in addition to the twin beds, a queen size bed in downstairs BR and a portable cot is available.

About Gail G. Benke and Tom H. Benke

We live in Greenville, SC and in 2009 had this cabin custom built. We have put a lot of time and energy into the property, and also own the adjoining lot in the back for privacy. The house is on a corner lot and there is a privacy fence on the side adjoining the only other adjacent home. Very private and quiet location.

We love the proximity to the town of Saluda with the wonderful restaurants, friendly shop keepers, festivals, and community spirit. Lake Hosea is a small, quiet lake community about 2.5 miles outside town.

Although we are both very much in the "retirement age", my husband continues to stay in business and I enjoy several hobbies including furniture painting, bridge, gardening, and reading.

The cabin is very much our "home away from home" and we welcome guests who respect the property, our neighbors, and our personal property.

Gail G. Benke and Tom H. Benke purchased this cabin in 2009

Why Gail G. Benke and Tom H. Benke chose Smoky Mountains

In addition to proximity to Saluda and amenities of the lake, we like to visit the surrounding communities of Columbus, Tryon, Hendersonville, and Asheville. Many mountain attractions and conveniences are within a short distance. We love being close to good hiking trails, the Green River, The Gorge Zip Line, and ice cream at Somewhere in Time in downtown Saluda.

Saluda has recently been named among the five leading small towns to visit in the Carolinas. Developed as a summer retreat for SC residents from the heat of the lower part of the state, the residential population more than doubles in the summer. Visitors come here from every US state, Canada, and many foreign countries.

We are also conveniently located to Greenville, SC, recently recognized as one of the 10 best cities in the US to visit. If you have time while in the Saluda area, hopefully you will drive to downtown Greenville and enjoy the center city water falls, "swinging" bridge, fabulous restaurants, theater, music, and specialty stores and shops.

What makes this cabin unique

We chose Lake Hosea due to its laid back atmosphere, very natural landscaping, and the lake. We love walking around the lake, enjoying the birds, wild flowers, and natural scenery of this neighborhood. Quiet, private, but easily accessible to town and conveniences. In deciding to rent the cabin, we are providing a comfortable cabin that is fully equipped for most - all paper products, full line of linens/towels, fully equipped kitchen with modern appliances and cookware. Designed to offer a get-away where you only need to bring your clothes, meds, and some food; and if you don't want to bring food, several very good restaurants are nearby.

We have taken the time and energy to decorate and maintain a comfortable, clean, and attractive home, and appreciate our guests who respect the home and treat it as we do - relax and enjoy.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our first guests at the Benke cabin were ideal! They were respectful of our home, communicated well, and responded to all our questions. A very positive first experience for us as renters, and we hope these folks will visit any time.

Five Star Cabin stay

  • 5 of 5

We visited from Canada and came down to ride the roads in the area of the Blue Ridge mtns. The Cabin was perfectly situated to ride cycling routes that rival anything we have experienced in Europe. The Cabin experience exceeded our expectations and would say Martha Stewart has nothing on Gail! We will be back...cheers..Clay and Steph

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay! The house was quaint and cozy, with everything we could possibly need. Gail was helpful and accessible, both leading up to the stay and while we were there. The location was perfect, we were able to take day trips to Asheville, Greenville, and Hendersonville. All around fantastic stay, we enjoyed it immensely and look forward to coming back soon!

Always a pleasure to be in Saluda

Owner's Response: We consistently receive five stars from our guests. When I asked this guest why they gave four, she replied they preferred having a king size bed and bath tub, although they knew from the listing these were not here. There were no complaints, issues with cleanliness, quality, or communication. I suppose they thought our queen bed and shower would transform into a king and tub while they were here. Unreasonable and unfair feedback from these guests.

Perfect home base for a mountain getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We wanted to spend a couple of days doing some hiking and birding in the mountains. We were very fortunate to find such a lovely spot to serve as home base. The cabin was delightful, warm and cozy, and close to some good places to hike, complete with waterfalls. Another bonus, Gail could not have been more helpful or more responsive to our questions. We greatly appreciated her many tips, from recommending we visit Pearson's Falls (don't miss it!) to advice on some neat places to eat. Saluda has some surprisingly good eats and is just a very scenic hop, skip and a jump away from the cabin.

One caveat, unless you want to travel on dirt roads, don't believe your navigation system when it tells you to take Pace Mountain Road!

Owner's Response: Thanks for taking the time to submit the review of your stay at our cabin. We are always glad to hear guests enjoy their stay here, the activities offered in this area, and indicate a desire to return. You are A+++ guests and we would be happy to have you stay here again. Yes, good advice to follow my directions to cabin rather than relying on the GPS; you can end up on some "interesting" roads!

We were so pleased with our stay at this cabin. It was warm, inviting, clean and wonderfully decorated. The kitchen was well appointed and Gail was a pleasure to work with. We hope we have an opportunity to return. Highly recommend this property!!! We are frequent VRBO renters and would rank this one right at the top in terms of value!
