About Gail G. Benke and Tom H. Benke

We live in Greenville, SC and in 2009 had this cabin custom built. We have put a lot of time and energy into the property, and also own the adjoining lot in the back for privacy. The house is on a corner lot and there is a privacy fence on the side adjoining the only other adjacent home. Very private and quiet location.

We love the proximity to the town of Saluda with the wonderful restaurants, friendly shop keepers, festivals, and community spirit. Lake Hosea is a small, quiet lake community "in the woods" about 2.5 miles outside town.

Although we are both very much in the "retirement age", my husband continues to stay in business and I enjoy several hobbies including furniture painting, competitive bridge, gardening, and reading.

The cabin is our "home away from home" and we welcome guests who respect the property, our neighbors, and our personal property.

Gail G. Benke and Tom H. Benke purchased this cabin in 2009

Why Gail G. Benke and Tom H. Benke chose Saluda

In addition to proximity to Saluda and amenities of the lake, we like to visit the surrounding communities of Columbus, Tryon, Hendersonville, and Asheville. Many mountain attractions and conveniences are within a short distance. We love being close to good hiking trails, the Green River, The Gorge Zip Line, and ice cream at Somewhere in Time in downtown Saluda.

Saluda has recently been named among the five leading small towns to visit in the Carolinas and among the bes towns to visit by Southern Living. Developed as a summer retreat for SC residents from the heat of the lower part of the state, the residential population more than doubles in the summer. Visitors come here from every US state, Canada, and many foreign countries.

We are also conveniently located to Greenville, SC, recently recognized as one of the 10 best cities in the US to visit. If you have time while in the Saluda area, hopefully you will drive to downtown Greenville and enjoy the center city water falls, "swinging" bridge, fabulous restaurants, theater, music, and specialty stores and shops.

What makes this cabin unique

We chose Lake Hosea due to its laid back atmosphere, very natural landscaping, wooded privacy, and the lake. We love walking around the lake, enjoying the birds, wild flowers, and natural scenery of this neighborhood. Quiet, private, but easily accessible to town and conveniences. In deciding to rent the cabin, we are providing a clean, well maintained and comfortable cabin that is fully equipped for most - all paper products, full line of linens/towels, fully equipped kitchen with modern appliances and cookware. Designed to offer a get-away where you only need to bring your clothes, meds, and some food; and if you don't want to bring food, several very good restaurants are nearby.

We have invested the time and energy to decorate and maintain a comfortable, clean, and attractive home, and appreciate our guests who respect the home and treat it as we do - relax and enjoy.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our first guests at the Benke cabin were ideal! They were respectful of our home, communicated well, and responded to all our questions. A very positive first experience for us as renters, and we hope these folks will visit any time.

The Benke cabin in Saluda is the BEST!!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the Benke cabin on Lake Hosea was the perfect location. Convenient to all local attraction, very private, and perfectly equipped. Communication with Gail and Tom was easy. We would definitely recommend to anyone. I can't think of anything that wasn't provided. I certainly hope if we travel back to Saluda to stay at the Benke cabin again.

Wonderful Saluda Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here last year and loved it so much, we had to come back! The cabin is quiet, secluded, very well-maintained, and minutes from downtown Saluda. We loved sitting on the front porch and watching the hummingbirds and fireflies. We had a peaceful, relaxing stay and look forward to visiting again soon. Thank you!

Second trip just as WONDERFUL as our first!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had visited the Benke's cabin over the New Year holiday and had already given it a 5-Star rating, so when we had the opportunity to share it with two international students who we were hosting this summer we jumped at the chance. Once again, everything was PERFECT! Such amazing attention to the smallest details made this trip as magical as our first! The cabin is picture perfect and is located in a lovely area with lots of lush trees and is just a short stroll to a serene lake, complete with families of darling ducks!

Once again we enjoyed delicious meals in the local Saluda restaurants and enjoyed shopping in the art-filled shops along the main street.

A wonderful experience from beginning to end!

Thank you Gail- we hope to visit your lovely cabin again soon!
