About Gail G. Benke and Tom H. Benke
We live in Greenville, SC and in 2009 had this cabin custom built. We have put a lot of time and energy into the property, and also own the adjoining lot in the back for privacy. The house is on a corner lot and there is a privacy fence on the side adjoining the only other adjacent home. Very private and quiet location. We love the proximity to the town of Saluda with the wonderful restaurants, friendly shop keepers, festivals, and community spirit. Lake Hosea is a small, quiet lake community "in the woods" about 2.5 miles outside town. Although we are both very much in the "retirement age", my husband continues to stay in business and I enjoy several hobbies including furniture painting, competitive bridge, gardening, and reading. The cabin is very much our "home away from home" and we welcome guests who respect the property, our neighbors, and our personal property.

Why Gail G. Benke and Tom H. Benke chose Saluda
In addition to proximity to Saluda and amenities of the lake, we like to visit the surrounding communities of Columbus, Tryon, Hendersonville, and Asheville. Many mountain attractions and conveniences are within a short distance. We love being close to good hiking trails, the Green River, The Gorge Zip Line, and ice cream at Somewhere in Time in downtown Saluda. Saluda has recently been named among the five leading small towns to visit in the Carolinas. Developed as a summer retreat for SC residents from the heat of the lower part of the state, the residential population more than doubles in the summer. Visitors come here from every US state, Canada, and many foreign countries. We are also conveniently located to Greenville, SC, recently recognized as one of the 10 best cities in the US to visit. If you have time while in the Saluda area, hopefully you will drive to downtown Greenville and enjoy the center city water falls, "swinging" bridge, fabulous restaurants, theater, music, and specialty stores and shops.
What makes this Cabin unique
We chose Lake Hosea due to its laid back atmosphere, very natural landscaping, wooded privacy, and the lake. We love walking around the lake, enjoying the birds, wild flowers, and natural scenery of this neighborhood. Quiet, private, but easily accessible to town and conveniences. In deciding to rent the cabin, we are providing a clean, well maintained and comfortable cabin that is fully equipped for most - all paper products, full line of linens/towels, fully equipped kitchen with modern appliances and cookware. Designed to offer a get-away where you only need to bring your clothes, meds, and some food; and if you don't want to bring food, several very good restaurants are nearby. We have invested the time and energy to decorate and maintain a comfortable, clean, and attractive home, and appreciate our guests who respect the home and treat it as we do - relax and enjoy.

The best of everything...
My husband and I recently spent a serene, early spring week at the Benke cabin. It turned out to be one of our best vacations ever. If I were ever to build a cabin in a vacation spot, it would be a replica of Gail and Tom's. It is well constructed, efficiently laid out, and comfortably furnished. It is decorated with a keen eye; everywhere you look, you find something interesting and lovely. One might even guess that some of the pieces have stories attached to them. As far as it being well equipped, let me simply say that if Gail doesn't have it, you don't need it. She has thought of everything. Of special note are the gas grill and carport, both of which my husband truly appreciated. Throughout the entire VRBO experience, Gail was amazing...prompt, helpful, and gracious.
The cabin is perfectly located to explore the area, from national forests, to lakes, and to small towns in between. We have fallen I love with this area of the country and will be visiting frequently. Without a doubt, will be renting the Benke cabin when we do.
Thank you for the detailed and positive review of your stay at our cabin. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay and will return again, and that your discovery of this area included staying at our home. You are ideal guests and we welcome your return!
Wonderful mountain cabin! Quaint and well appointed
The owners have done a fantastic job with this property - the rules were straight forward but unencumbering - the property exceeded our expectations. The antiques were a nice touch.
Absolute PERFECTION in the most idyllic setting!
This beautiful cabin totally EXCEEDED our expectations! My husband and I needed a break from the rat race and decided to run away to the mountains to quietly welcome the new year. The area is stunning, and the small town of Saluda was an unexpected delight, but it was the cabin that totally wowed us! You can feel that it has been lovingly decorated and maintained with thoughtful touches throughout.
Escaping to this cabin was by far one of the best mini-vacations we've enjoyed since moving to North Carolina and hopefully we can return- maybe for the Coon Dog Festival!!
It is a wonderful place that is so inviting.
We have stayed here many times. We look forward to each return visit.
Thank you; it is always a pleasure to have your family here.
A little Haven!!
A perfect retreat for our fall foliage trip, this cabin is clean cozy and welcoming!! Decorated beautifully. Loved walking down around the lake. The owners have went the extra mile to make guest comfortable!! This will most definitely be the cabin we choose for our next North Carolina trip!!
Absolutely Fabulous Little Cabin in the Woods!
The Benke Cabin is even better in person than in the photos! It is so cozy and warm, decorated beautifully and equipped with everything you need, as if in your own home! We loved our stay and really needed another day or two in order to enjoy the cabin more! Thank you!
It is our pleasure to host guests such as you. Thank you for choosing our cabin for this trip and when you return to the east coast, I hope it will be to this area and our cabin.
We are located about two miles from the town of Saluda, and about two miles from the Greenville County Water shed entrance. Lake Hosea Drive is off Mountain Page Road, which becomes Greenville Street closer to town. This location is within a 20 minute drive to Hendersonville, Tryon, NC and Landrum, SC. The area is known for its outdoor activities including tubing, kayaking, zip lining, mountain hiking and biking. Many festivals are held here each year including Saluda's Art Festival in the spring, Coon Dog day which is the first Saturday after July 4. The Apple Festival is held in Hendersonville in September. And other festivals are held in Tryon and nearby towns.
