3 Br Family Lake Home: Great Swimming Area for Children

Bedrooms 3
Space 2,000 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

3 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 10

Our parents bought the property in the 1960's. In 1972 they built an addition and winterized the property. They lived there happily for many years and all of the children, grandchildren, and friends have fond memories of summers and winters at the lake. There is nothing more relaxing than warm summer days on the dock, sharing stories and watching the sunset over Dalton Mountain. In the winter you can cross country ski, snowmobile, and skate on lake, followed by hot chocolate in front of the large outdoor fireplace.

The children took ownership of the family home in 2012 and we began updating and renovating all of the rooms. Updating the patio and gardens is a work in progress. Our Dad was an avid and gifted gardener. His gardens and stonewalls were a great source of pride and we all continue to enjoy their beauty.

About Laurie Boswell

Our parents, Earl and Jane Boswell, bought the camp in the 1960's. They raised us (Bonnie, Michael, Connie, and Laurie) in neighboring Littleton, NH. We were blessed to spend summers at the lake, learning to swim, dive, and water ski, along with picking rocks out of the lake to create a great swimming area. As adults we now look back and realize how important family time at the lake was. We all currently live in NH and we have raised our own children who enjoy making memories by spending time at the lake.

Laurie Boswell purchased this house in 1964

Why Laurie Boswell chose White Mountains

Our parents turned the property over to us four children in 2005. We all own homes of our own, though we all enjoy time at the lake whether it is a family cookout to celebrate a special occasion or a quick dip in the lake after a long day at work. There is nothing quite as relaxing as watching the sunset while enjoying a glass of wine on the dock. The peacefulness is unmatched.

What makes this house unique

Forest Lake is close to town (Whitefield and Littleton) for all daily conveniences, yet far enough away to experience the peace and solitude of life on a lake. The sound of loons or morning doves may wake you, but automobile traffic never will.

Honeymoon at the Lake

  • 5 of 5

My new husband and I got the opportunity to honeymoon at the Lake House. We cannot say enough good things about this rental. My favorite parts of this rental were the outdoor fireplace and the dock. Most of our time was spent outside enjoying the lake view or kayaking. Great hiking/trail running nearby. The owners of the property are very helpful and have made great efforts to make this rental a comfortable retreat. We would definitely stay there again.

Beautiful, Peaceful Lake House!!!

  • 5 of 5

Our family had such a great trip at this beautiful, peaceful lake house!!! The house was so charming and clean, and being on the lake out back was turly serene. Children and us all enjoyed the swimming, kayaking and canoeing, too! Close to amazing hiking in White Mountain National Forest and both Franconia and Crawford Notch State Parks. Owners were very helpful. Would definitely stay again!

We loved the Boswell Family vacation house!

  • 5 of 5

Everything about our stay was delightful: the views, the sun drenched patio with fireplace, the shaded side yard and grill, abundant blueberries right from the bush, towel and sheet service, plenty of places to sleep, two docks on a sandy beach with a canoe and kayaks. Sunblock, bug spray, citronella candles and binoculars were thoughtfully left for our use. We were so happy to be able to bring our dog who had the time of his life swimming, playing with the fish, and going for walks every day. The owner was easy to contact and lived nearby. She even brought us fresh flowers and squash from her garden! We paddled and swam every day, and I think the Boswell house is the ideal location on Forest Lake and close to the best that New Hampshire has to offer. We hiked, mountain biked, swam in natural water slides, zip lined, went to the Weather Vane Theater to see The King and I, and more. Littleton had great shopping, several pianos on the sidewalks, the best book/toy store and candy store ever, and a beautiful, long, covered bridge over a river that begged you to come play in it. It was a perfect vacation.

Peace and Quiet

  • 5 of 5

My family and I left Hawaii to spend Christmas in this wonderful home on Forest Lake. I had spent summers on this lake growing up, and getting a chance to come back to the area for Christmas was amazing. The home is warm and very inviting. Our family of 4 had more than enough room. Our kids loved the bunk room and actually requested to take naps! Which was perfect, because that gave us time to enjoy the for gorgeous views and the serenity of the lake. Great proximity to the surrounding towns made this an ideal location to get away from it all while still having access to it all. This house felt like home during our stay, and we can't wait to stay again.

Wonderful for a peaceful New Year's with friends!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at the Boswell's Forest Lake house with friends for a short break around New Year's. It was the perfect place to ring in the New Year with board games, champagne, good food, good friends, and a beautiful view. There was plenty of room for the seven of us (two couples and three singles, which matched the bed situation perfectly) without feeling cramped. My husband and I enjoyed the beautiful picture window in the upstairs master bathroom looking out over the partially frozen lake with the mountains in the distance. The kitchen was the most well-stocked of any vacation rental I've stayed at - good knives and cookware with plenty of counter space and cutting boards. You can tell how much love the owners have put into the house, as it was the home their parents shared before them (I will admit I got a little choked up reading the history of the house and how their parents first met at the property next door!). They were extremely friendly, communicative, and helpful throughout the stay, and when we had a small issue with the heat, they had someone there to fix it within a half hour. All in all I would love to stay at this house again and would warmly recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway at the foot of the White Mountains.

Owner's Response: Megan, I'm so glad that you and your friends enjoyed your time at the lake. It was a pleasure to have you stay and I'm happy that the glitch with the furnace was resolved quickly. Thank you for the very kind words about our family home. It is a special place in our hearts and so full of memories...and now you have your memories! I heard that you were able to take selfies with the local moose. How cool is that? I hope that you will think of returning in the future. The summer sunsets are spectacular. Yours, Laurie

Great Lake Property!

  • 5 of 5

This is the perfect place for young children to enjoy lake swimming. The dock area is sandy and free of rocks. The living / dining area is very large and open; plenty of room for adults and children with toys. There is a step down between dining and living area that can be treacherous if you are not paying attention. Maybe some white tape or a floor stencil at the edge would help. The outdoor space is great! Large patio with gas grill and fireplace, side yard with lots of space for playing games or relaxing with a book in the shade. You will not want for anything in this well appointed rental. Our family was familiar with the Lake, as we once had a camp there. It was wonderful to bring our grandson there to be the 4th generation of our family to vacation at Forest Lake. We have booked two weeks for next year!!

Owner's Response: Denise, We're so pleased that you had a great week with all of your family members and that your mother-in-law was able to reconnect with friends around the lake. It's a much quieter lake today than it was 30 years ago. I prefer the kayaks to motor boats. Thank you for mentioning the step down from the dining room to living room. We had stenciling along that edge years ago and we're hoping to redo the stencil this winter. Laurie

In the autumn, the foliage around the lake and along the mountains is quite spectacular.
