About Ruby Montana
Ruby Montana migrated to Palm Springs, Ca. in 2000 after purchasing a small boutique hotel called Ruby Montana's Coral Sands Inn. Prior to living in Palm Springs, Ruby was a resident of the wonderful Seattle, Washington, and had a store there for some twenty years. Ruby Montana's Pinto Pony in Pioneer Square was a kitsch Emporium that held everything from a Corbusier sofa to an invisible dog leash. Whack and wonderful. Ruby sponsered the National Spam Contest in Seattle for 10 years and was featured in People Magazine and on Jay Leno with regard to it...interviewed every February by 100s of radio stations internationally about the whacky contest. Ruby went to The University of Michigan and received a degree in Music. She majored in the French Horn and it managed to pay her way through college. Ruby was born in El Reno, Oklahoma, and is a pie baker. Ruby has a deep regard for animals and a passion for rescuing small dogs. In April 2013 Ruby formed a 501(c)3 called Ruby Montana's Pie in the Sky Animal Rescue. She saves 100s of dogs a year from certain death by fostering them and then placing them in homes. Ruby began baking pies for Trio Restaurant in order to meet the costs of rescuing a dog from a shelter. Each dog costs in the neighborhood of $200 to rescue. Her pies were always in such demand at Trio that she started Ruby Montana's Pie in the Sky Pie of the Month Club. Ruby had 50 members at last count. Her Let the Sunshine Lemon Meringue Pie is so popular at Trio Restaurant that it is generally sold out before 7 p.m. Ruby Montana's Coral Sands Inn sits close to Rancho Las Palmas and they work beautifully for hosting larger groups of people...reunions, weddings, retreats, golf getaways...you name it. Ruby loves the Old Las Palmas neighborhood that Rancho and The Coral Sands are located in. They are situated just around the corner from Liberace's first home where one can still find the original grand piano mail box. Incredible

Why Ruby Montana chose Old Las Palmas
The Old Las Palmas neighborhood was developed in the mid-1920’s by New York builder Alvah Hicks and his son, Harold. Today, Old Las Palmas is recognized as one of the premier locations in Palm Springs and many of the older estates and homes in the neighborhood are being updated and given the love they deserve. Formerly a citrus grove, Old Las Palmas sits against the backdrop of the beautiful San Jacinto Mountains.

Desert Paradise for Family and Friends
We spent three nights in this mid-century paradise but could easily have spent three weeks. We stayed with our two young children in the 3 bedroom main home, and had extended family stay in the casita. It was perfect for a group looking to spend some quality time together while also explore Palm Springs. The location is ideal for walking to gastropubs, craft coffee, shops, museums, etc.
This home is exceptionally beautiful with huge glass walls that look out on the pool and impeccable gardens. Truly seamless indoor/outdoor living. The curated collection vintage furniture is a treat for anyone with midcentury tastes, but there are a number of high end amenities like super soft sheets and brand new washer dryers.
Every morning and afternoon we swam, every evening we cooked in the outdoor kitchen. And each night we drank wine late into the night under the stars and desert wind. This home touched our hearts and we’re already planning our return!
Great location, property was not well maintained
This property was located in a wonderful neighborhood centrally located to Palm Springs. Sadly, the condition of the property was disappointing. The house lacked basic amenities: soap, coffee, paper products and working lightbulbs. The house is dirty and rundown. The bedding needs to be cleaned, including all blankets and coverlets. The rugs were filthy. The guest house was musty and also needed updating. Overall, the house was fine but the cost of the house was to high for the condition of the property. I would not stay there again at the price point.
Ellen...I am so sorry that your experience was not good for you and yours while visiting Rancho Las Palmas. We have never had anything but positive reviews at Rancho Las Palmas so I am taken by surprise as we have been renting this property for five years with mostly returning clientele. It is naturally our aim to please our guests.
This house was built in 1949. We do our best to clean this property adequately...however this does not take the Older Home out of the equation.
Place-specific design and everything you need for a comfortable stay
I chose this house because I loved how it looked like it shouldn't be anywhere else but Palm Springs. It gives you such a great sense of the history and culture of the neighborhood, but this is definitely a house meant to be lived in! From the photos you can tell that every room has beautiful period and retro furniture and decorations but you can't tell how comfortable it is. The beds and linens were of high quality and the kitchen was the best stocked vacation kitchen I've ever used. The eye for style continued in the rainbow selection of fiesta dishes and tiki glassware but we also had a variety of baking pans, tupperware, a food processor, a blender, a toaster and quality appliances. We loved the kitchen so much that we only ate out twice, including a trip to the Draughftsman and Ice Cream+Shoppe, which are only two blocks away. It was hard to leave the house when there was so much great design to admire in the home and garden (the "cactus slide" by the bomb shelter was one of our favorites) and your views included at minimum a beautiful garden if not palm trees and the surrounding mountains. The surrounding homes are also beautiful and unique so we took several strolls around the neighborhood. One thing that you may not be able to tell from the photos is that two of the bedrooms have closets/dressing rooms that are easily big enough to fit a crib. We had a baby in our party and her parents were very happy to fit her a bit closer to them. Concrete, cactus and "Sex USA" posters might trick you into thinking this is not a baby friendly house, but it was perfect for us. The floors were easy to clean and gave our little crawler lots of room to go. The little touches in every room were a great distraction device when she got fussy and the big picture windows looking out to the pool were a perfect lookout point. We also had great family time in the saltwater pool. Ruby was very friendly and easy to work with. We're already talking about coming back again next year.
Christmas at Rancho Las Palmas
Each year we meet our adult children and their families at some unique (and hopefully warm) spot. Last Christmas we choose Ranch Las Palmas, and we were really glad we did. The house itself is decorated in an old Palm Springs fashion, but is comfortable and equipped with modern conveniences as well. The bedrooms are comfortable and I really appreciate that the are all en suite. The casita was great for creating a separation for the youngest of the group. The patio and pool are a perfect place to gather and relax. We made good use of the barbecue and outdoor dining area. The views of the mountains and gardens are beautiful. My one-year old grandson enjoyed his first swimming lesson in the warm pool. (Thank you Ruby!) The house is located in the Old Los Palmas neighborhood and is walking distance to the downtown area. There are great places to go biking too. I highly recommend this location, but any of Ruby's homes are wonderful. She is a great host too!
I love you and your family and am thrilled that you enjoyed your holiday at Rancho Las Palmas in the old section of wonderful Palm Springs.
A beautiful house in a beautiful town!
At the end of last year I was lucky enough to stay at Rancho Las Palmas in Palm Springs. My stay there was amazing and many fun hours were spent in the pool.
The rooms are all of a very good size and all with en-suites but the real unique point to the house is the fantastic décor. Every piece has been well thought out and considered and it really makes you feel as if you are there in Palm Springs in its heyday!
The Kitchen has everything you need and there is a large BBQ area in the casita from where you can see amazing view of the mountains in the background. When I was there the garden was also being completed so there are really beautiful desert plants out front and back.
There are great restaurants and bars nearby with more opening all the time but the house is also situated at a walkable distance from the town centre so it's quiet at night.
All in all a lovely stay was had and I hope to be lucky enough to make it back there one day!
We had the most wonderful weekend in this amazing Mid-century house. So well put together - effortlessly chic, comfortable and equipped with everything you need for a perfect weekend escape. A well-stocked kitchen with essentials, Pool, Outdoor BBQ area, and an amazing view of Mount San Jacinto. Walking distance to shops and restaurants. They have really created a beautiful space that where you can relax, sit back, enjoy but also has that a very familiar at home feeling. Well done and we will definitely be back for more!
