A cozy vacation experience in a beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

First, I'd like to thank Mike Rima for opening Robin 2 to us on such short notice. His cabin, situated in the beautiful setting of Little Alpine Village, is the perfect getaway for a long weekend in the mountains. It's something we've done before and a habit we'd like to continue.

Robin 2 was well provisioned with firewood and supplies in the pantry. The view on the back deck was magnificent. The weather was alternately sunny, cool and wet, which is just what we wanted: perfect fireplace weather. Our only complaint is that the weekend went by way too fast.

The WIFI signal was great. We didn't watch TV, so we can't say anything about that. Why would anyone want to watch television in such a beautiful setting anyway? There is simply too much else to do to worry about such accommodations, but they're present. I understand that recent infrastructure projects have made significant improvements in this area, and that more are on the way this year.

There is a lot to do in the surrounding area. Hiking trails abound, so come prepared to breathe the exhilarating alpine-scented air as you navigate rocky steps under canopies of old-growth forest and brush up against boulders that rolled into their current positions several millennia ago. Bring a walking stick! You'll need it sometimes to keep your balance on the trails, but this place is paradise.

There are plenty of places to pick up groceries close enough at hand that you can drive in and stock up. We recommend Ingles, but there is also a Food Lion that provides more than adequate supplies. There are restaurants very close to the cabin and dotted throughout the Pisgah National Forest. That is part of the delight of discovery. Oh, and if you like golf, you're in for a real treat at Little Alpine Village.

The best part of all is waking up and watching the sun rise over the mountains. Wow! What a beautiful sight, and what a wonderful experience for a couple that wants nothing more than a few days in a remote setting to enjoy nature and one another. Great memories! Fantastic times!

Very nice.

  • 5 of 5

The property was as nice as advertised, in fact, better because we did not realize we could sit on the deck, listening to the birds and squirrels, in the evening and watch the sunset shadow move up the side of Mt. Mitchell (which is only about 3 miles away as the crow flies). Also, access to the Blue Ridge Parkway is only 3 or 4 miles away. Robin 2 is well stocked with stuff you need. When we first arrived there was a problem with the internet password but Mike helped get that sorted out quickly. The place is ideal for a retired couple (like us) or for a younger couple too. We stayed 7 nights and enjoyed the autumn colors.

Mountain top experience.

The cabin was perfect: well equipped and decorated. Ideal location for side trips up and down the parkway. Enjoyed hiking , neat lunch spots and a winery visit. Love the swimming pool!

Terrific Chalet!

  • 5 of 5

The chalet is located in the most beautiful mountain resort! Absolutely stunning views all around! It's private yet not isolated and just the drive up through the neighborhood to get to the chalet took our breath away. Surprisingly - it was only a short ten minute drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway. The owners were very accommodating and responsive as we had questions prior to arrival. The chalet was very clean, comfortable, well equipped and well stocked. It is also conveniently located to the Black Mountain campground and there is even a trailhead that leads to Mount Mitchell within a few yards from the front door of the chalet. We were able to make our meals in the kitchen and sit out on the beautiful deck. There was a nice propane grill for our use as well. There are only two nearby places to eat (Mount Mitchell Golf Course and J & J’s Grill). The closest full service grocery store was back in the town of Burnsville but, as long as you bring your groceries and plan ahead, it is no problem. Overall, we had a great stay. Very comfortable and pleasant. We will definitely visit again and recommend it to friends!
