About the property

5 bedroom, 2 bath, 10 people max

Escape to the mountains, and rest without distraction. This mountain home is great for family reunions, holidays, for those long weekends to just get away from it all. We have just remodeled the kitchen completetly, making it even better for those parties and family reunions.Surrounded by trees this home sits half way up Go to the mountain, with views of the Nantahala mountains in a valley down below. Sip a cup of coffee at sunrise while sitting in the rocking chair on the wide wrap around deck, or toast the sunset in the evening. The wrap-around Glassed/screen porch is a great place for a candlelight dinner a game of Dominos or just curling up with a good book. Wireless internet & satellite TV are also available in th cabin. Gatlinburg is 60 miles, Ashville is 70 miles, and Robbinsville, setting for the movie Nell, starring: Jodie Foster, is the closest town at just 14 miles away. About 15 to 20 minutes away is Tsali recreation area, for mountain biking, horseback riding trails, Fontana lake & dam, as well as the Appalachian trail. Close to trout streams Joyce Kilmer national forest. Whitewater rafting at the Nantahala outdoor center, is only 15 minutes away.

You hardly know you have any neighbors. This mountainside retreat is nestled in the woods with a view of the trees, sky and mountains. This home is situated approximately 18 miles from the tail of the dragon. Which is probably the best-known motorcycle thrill ride in the united states. We have a private drive with ample room for three or more cars. There is also a large detached garage, with room to store one of your vehicles. A huge wrap around porch is great all day, always providing shade. There is a glassed/ screened in porch with the table, great for eating dinner or just playing games. There is a gas burning fireplace upstairs in a wood burning fireplace downstairs.

Douglas J. & Jane E Visser purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Douglas J. & Jane E Visser chose Smoky Mountains

we have always loved this area, and vacationed in the area for many many years. when one of our friends decided to sell this property. We knew it was for us

What makes this cabin unique

this location makes for a perfect, peaceful get away whether it be for a long weekend or an entire vacation. its close proximity to the Tail of the Dragon, and the Cherohala Skyway make it a favorite location for avid motorcycle riders as well. For those wanting to get away from it all, the peace and quiet allow you to curl up with a good book, drink a cup of coffee on the rocking chair on the porch, or take a hike allows you to become one with nature again.

Owner's Response: We are glad you enjoyed your stay. We continue to upgrade our mountain home. We will have new flooring in the entire downstairs next month. We also just had the electric panel service replaced & upgraded last week, as our plans are for an entire central heat & air condition system to be installed this spring. We hope you return again for a visit & tell your friend about our mountain home. Doug & Jane Visser

Great mountain get away

  • 5 of 5

This cabin has great accommodations, both bathrooms are very big and modern, cant beat the price of this cabin with 5 bedrooms. We couldn't of picked a better week to stay the temps were cool, like 40 overnite. Since the house only has 1 a/c in upstairs living room would not recomend staying in summer months as others have stated.

A great getaway

  • 4 of 5

Myself and 5 other authors stayed here for 2 nights for a writer's retreat. The view was fantastic and the accommodations were very clean. We also had plenty of room. Communication with Doug was a breeze and instructions for getting into the cabin and operating everything were well given. The cabin suited our needs well and was reasonably priced! Our only complaint was that the description states there is air conditioning. While technically correct, an extremely tiny window unit in a single, upstairs window was hardly sufficient air conditioning for a 5 BR home, particularly the rooms in the basement, especially in the middle of August. The occupants of the downstairs rooms were stifling hot and the small floor fan did little to cool the space. Even with that being said, we would return to the cabin, just during MUCH cooler months.

What a great place!

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I stayed here for two nights and couldn't have been happier! The location to Nantahala and Lake Fontana couldn't be more perfect. Bryson City isn't far of a drive either for a night out or a great bite to eat. The cabin was very clean and spacious. AC units in main room and fans in all the bedrooms, great back porch, and the cabin was stocked with all the basic necessities. Doug was easy to get a hold of and very friendly! You could tell that he takes great pride in this great cabin. Thank you again Doug!
