A skylight directly above the original staircase adds even more light to the room.
The dining room (approx. 16' by 11') is accented by a unique vintage light fixture and a classic wood table with period legs and inlay wood border. Leather chairs provide seating for six; however, the table can be extended to allow for dinners of up to 10 seated guests. The dining room can be separated from the living room with two large oak-panel pocket doors. About Bill Powers
I purchased this property to be my primary residence in Washington DC. I lovingly and professionally restored this property to bring out the charm of this gorgeous historic rowhouse while including modern 21st century luxury features. I lived in this exact same apartment for several years until moving out of town recently.
Bill Powers purchased this House in 2002
Why Bill Powers chose Eastern Market
The location is unbeatable and the block is gorgeous! I wanted something that was quintessentially Capitol Hill, in the heart of this historic neighborhood and on a tree-lined block with other beautiful homes.
What makes this House unique
Quite simply, the access from this house is too good to be true! I can easily walk to dozens of restaurants, bars and shops as well as many of the nation's finest monuments, museums and memorials. The Capital South Metro station is half a block away and can have me in most other parts of DC within 15-20 minutes or at the airport (DCA) in 30 minutes. When I need to drive, the house is just three blocks from the freeway (I-395).

Great for family
House was perfect for our family of eight. Living space and dining room accommodated is all with room left over. Kitchen was well stocked for meals in. Walk to metro was easy and short. Host were responsive, extremely accommodating and easy to talk to. This house was perfect spot to base our DC adventures.
We had a fantastic time making memories and seeing the sights of DC. The house is comfortable and is outfitted with all the necessities. The neighborhood offers character while allowing you to live like a local for your stay. The absolute best thing about this property is the access to the driveway/off-street parking, a very rare thing in the city. The second best thing about this property is the proximity to the metro. Once you get the hang of it, the metro is a simple way to get around town. We had three generations of family members and my fathers mobility is quite limited requiring a walker at times. The metro is close enough that he could make it to the capital south station without issue.
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
Location is awesome. Very safe neighborhood. The drive way is worth it's weight in GOLD!
The home was nice size and beds were very comfortable. Nice home to be built in the 1880's.
Living room furniture needs to be updated and replaced, it's like sitting in a hole. Decor is not very pleasing seems like someone just hung a bunch of flea market finds (this is all personal preference). Several light bulbs were blown.
Communication with the property manager is pretty bad. Talked with him the night we arrived then could not get a hold of him for the remainder of the week. Even when the heat did not work could not get in touch with him. The owner tried his best to get the heat fix but with a major repair needed and the fact that the owner was not made aware until the end of the week there was nothing that could be done. The gentleman that lived downstairs was more helpful than anyone. The owner did get some portable heaters to us on the final night (it was 24 degrees in DC) which was very much appreciated and allowed the bedrooms to be somewhat warm during the night. I would say that the biggest problem with this property is the property manager. I am not sure what he is managing but it is definitely not this property. I mean when a resident helps you more than the manager then something is wrong.
I would stay here again, I just would not attempt to deal with the manager. Other than some downstairs furniture upgrades and of course fixing the heat (which I am sure the owner is addressing), the house was nice and again having the driveway is AWESOME!!!
As you consider my home for your visit to DC - happy to let you know how all the items mentioned here, and more, have been addressed.
- The home has just been freshly painted.
- The living room furniture has been replaced. Two beautiful new Stickley sofas now are the centerpiece of the living room.
- Recessed lights have all been replaced and inspected regularly.
- The home has much of my personal art collection from the last 20 years. Vintage Advertising Posters, limited edition Lithographs and vintage maps decorate the home. I hope you'll find them to fit your personal tastes as they do mine.
- I replaced the homes boiler and definitely don't expect any future heating problems. Also installed new Nest Thermostats so I can assure the house is heated or cooled before your arrival.
- As the owner of the home - even though I am mostly out of DC, I am now more personally involved. Three of us are available on our cells during your visit. And Pete who lives on the property is close by to help. I know you'll be more than happy with the responsiveness from Bill, Pete and me.
The house is almost fully booked through June - but I'm hoping there are dates later this summer that will work for you to enjoy a very special home.
Marc - Bill and Pete
Location location location
As the title says, you can’t beat to location of this space. Walking distance to the Capitol. You could probably hit the Cannon House with a three wood. Bull feathers, Tortilla Coast and Subway is roghtbaroung the corner. We hit Tortilla Coast a couple times..great Mexican food.
The home is old and a bit creepy but beds were very comfortable. Art lines the walls and it has A DRIVEWAY!! Very important in DC and rare in that neighborhood.
If you’re bringing you family to DC this is the place to use.
Great house..Great location....Beautiful!
It was very comfortable and a beautiful home. We all loved it. The only thing is it says it sleeps 8 and it can with the help of an air mattress. But there is no private room to put the air mattress in. We were a group of women so the master bedroom was large enough to have the air mattress on the floor there and one person slept on the couch.
Beautiful house in a quiet neighborhood
We stayed for a long weekend with our college age daughter and had a great time. All the rooms in the house were nice size, living area, dining room and kitchen w/ half bath on 1st floor, 3 BR and 2 full bath on 2nd fl. The house was very comfortable for us and had some beatifully restored features. A short walk to the Capitol building, took the tour which was very interesting, unfortunately we did it on a Saturday so nothing was going on as opposed to Mon - Fri. 15 minute walk to Nationals game and same to Union Station (Amtrak). Some nice restaurants found on Yelp and we ubered around for about $8.00 a ride. Would definitely return if our travels take us back to DC.
You will not find a better Capitol Hill location! The very best of Capitol Hill and Washington DC are located just outside the door! This apartment is literally steps from the Capitol South metro station, one block from the House of Representatives office buildings and two blocks from the U.S. Capitol! It is walking distance to the U.S. Capitol, Library of Congress, Supreme Court, the National Mall and its monuments, museums and memorials, Metro (orange and blue lines), dozens of restaurants, bars and shops along Pennsylvania Avenue, Union Station, the historic Eastern Market, the Barracks Row district of even more restaurants, bars and shops, the Washington Nationals baseball stadium, many beautiful parks and green spaces and it also has easy access to and from Interstate 395.
