About Roger Benney and Sheryl Craner

We recently moved to this area from Whidbey Island, WA, where we also had a guesthouse.

Roger works for NOAA, and we moved back to Oregon to be closer to work. We enjoyed operating our guesthouse on Whidbey and all the great people we met, and are excited to get this new venture underway.

Roger Benney and Sheryl Craner purchased this townhome in 2014

Why Roger Benney and Sheryl Craner chose Central Coast

As retired salmon fishermen, we are very familiar with Newport and the sea. We love the area and are excited to be connected with Newport and Oregon again after being overseas in New Zealand and on Whidbey for the past 10 years.

What makes this townhome unique

We fell in love with the South Beach area and all that it has to offer. We love the outdoors, and it just seems like a great place to experience Outdoor Oregon. We have a labrador called Charlie, who we love to take for walks on the beach, and throw the frisbee for him.

We are right next to the South Beach State Park which has miles of great walking and biking trails. If you want to ride to the beach and be able to lock up your bikes, head up the road towards the ocean and follow the trail sign left to "Old Jetty Trail. This will end up at a beach head with lots of descriptive and informative signs and a bike rack.

There are maps in the information folder in the house.

An amazing place for a memorable anniversary

  • 5 of 5

The Riverhouse was an excellent place for our much needed rest and relaxation trip. The thing we loved the most was the views and sounds around the house. Every morning during breakfast at house and in the evening sipping our favorite beverage on the deck watching the boats go by and taking wildlife pics. Convienently located by Rogue brewery and the beautiful South Beach. Also close to the historic downtown (As long as you are ambitious to walk a couple of miles or bold and daring to ride a bike across Yaquina bridge, we were bold and daring), where we had several meals at Local Ocean Seafoods and did our fair share of shopping and touring. We sat at the chef's counter at LOS where the chef was very personable and entertaining. Also took several walks along the city docks to watch and enjoy all the folks clamming and crabbing. There was never a boring moment for my husband and I. Also while visiting we took a trip up the coast for some whale watching in Depot Bay and Rocky Creek State scenic area where we saw several whales. Afterwards we stopped by Yaquina head to tour the lighthouse. Such a memorable couple of days, one that we will cherish. We look forward to coming back one day with our kiddos.

Light-filled with an incredible view

  • 5 of 5

This property was incredible, from the view to the perfect decor (which even inspired me with ideas to take home) to the comfortable accommodations. We had everything we needed and more. We loved having access to the garage and opener!!! The location was excellent. We only had to drive about 10 minutes for most of the things we wanted to do. We ate well while in the area. For an amazing 5-course meal with wine pairings, try Restaurant Beck in Depoe Bay. This is high-end dining at it's best...but not stuffy whatsoever...no dress code either. The food was amazing & the staff very knowledgeable and warm. We even saw seals in Whale Cove, which the restaurant overlooks. The day before we were there, a momma whale and her baby were spotted right in the cove! They say this cove is famous as a "playpen" for baby whales...they play in the safety of the cove while their mommas wait at the opening. Another amazing restaurant was Sorella in Nye Beach. This was about a 5-10 drive from the townhouse, which was convenient. We ate at Sorella twice. Everything was excellent. Pizzas were delicious and the handmade pasta was excellent. Our 4 children loved the local aquarium, which we walked to from the townhouse. Don't miss the sea cucumber in the touch tank! She was our favorite! My husband took the boys crabbing on the nearby board walk...steps away from the property. He did have to drive a few minutes to rent the crab rings locally...but crabbing could be done right off the boardwalk under the big bridge. So much to do in such a small area. We hope to come back someday. The view was unbeatable with the bay and GORGEOUS bridge to wake up to each morning. This place was even better than described!!

Perfect coastal home

  • 4 of 5

We loved the location of this home. The views were amazing and we were close enough to town without being in it. We used the bikes and enjoyed the nearby bike trails, walked to the Rogue Brewery, and visited the Aquarium. It was a perfect couple of days on the Newport Coast!

Feels like home

  • 5 of 5

We just had two wonderful weeks in Newport OR. We stayed at Roger & Sheryl Craner's great condo right on the Yaquina River. We so enjoyed spending time exploring Newport. Great little town & such good seafood. Loved the aquarium and the Hatfield Maritime Science Center. We even had the treat of a nice blustery storm Thursday. The condo is in a perfect place to explore Newport and the surrounding areas.

Fabulous views of the Yaquina river, the Newport Bridge, passing boat traffic,South Beach State Park, great walks through beach and dune forest trails to an unending sandy beach. The Rogue Brewery and the Aquarium are an easy stroll away.

The Old town and port and Historical Nye beach area are but a 5 minute drive

We have great Pacific Northwest fish available in fabulous localrestaurants such as 'Local Oceans'.

Above all perhaps, is our comfortable town house which is equipped for a very relaxing and enjoyable stay. Enjoy a glass of wine on the deck while watching the boats returning from the sea. Prepare your evening meal with the local seafood.. Pack up a picnic (we provide a picnic bsket) and head for South Beach!
