Home Away from Home

  • 4 of 5

My family, which included my family of 4 and parents, had a wonderful time in the Poconos. And it was made even better because of this charming vacation rental we temporarily called home. The owner is very thoughtful and helpful, which is evident in her timely and informative responses, and the plethora of "amenities" at the cottage. The property was just the right size - plenty of room to give each other space while still being cozy. We took advantage of the kitchen to eat a hardy breakfast before heading out each morning, and Netflix and Wi-Fi at the end of the day when winding down. The location was ideal. It was close to Lake Harmony (swimming and kayaking at Boulder Lake Club, dining at any one of the multiple restaurants), as well as shopping at The Crossing Premium Outlet Mall, gambling at Mount Airy Casino. and enjoying the waterpark at Camelback Waterpark and the amazing view from Big Pocono State Park - to name a few things. Next time we plan to come in the winter and do some skiing, as well as take advantage of the hot tub!

Charming house, even more charming host!

  • 5 of 5

Don't let the looks deceive, this property is much larger than it seems. 2 huge bedrooms with additional loft space, more than enough space for our party of 6. The property has it all, even a screened deck and a hot tub enclosed in glass. It would be perfect for a winter ski vacation but we booked it in the summer to be near other attractions.

The owner is quite helpful and she is extremely gracious and kind. There are games to keep the children busy, and the kitchen area overlooks the living area, it's such a great space. Everything has been thought of, and the price is well worth it!

Never again

  • 1 of 5

It is obvious that the owner never sees the place. The place was filthy upon arrival. Things were broken so notes were left like "door broken do not open". Then the owner refuses to give me my security deposit. She said we ruined bedding but she doesn't realize we brought our own so we would be more comfortable. The list goes on. She needs to clean and update the place and she uses the security deposit to do it.

Owner's Response: I have never had anyone leave my place in condition this renter left place. Cost to replace bedding, condition of hot tub and carpeting etc greatly exceeded the amount of damage and replacement of bed sheets, mattress pads and bed cover. What was left behind and not even tried to clean up or remove was ago disgusting to even mention. I Did take photos. If anyone would like to see or check out or contact others that have stayed at my place.

a week of summer fun

  • 4 of 5

we rented for a week in august and were very pleased with the accomodations. we wanted a place to relax and we could do that. the house is well equipped, clean ,attractive and even nicer than we expected. we hiked, sight seed, and explored this lovely area in the poconos.. our daughters and children came for the weekend and we had plenty of room and lots of fun. the lake passes were put to good use daily. thelake, pool, playground, games were enjoyed by all. it was about a 7 mile drive so we planned each day bringing lunches, etc. we went to the town of jim thorpe and enjoyed the train ride and walking through the quaint town. we visited big boulder and were amazed. at what we saw. we were lucky with beautiful weather and the nights got cool. the owner was a pleasure to deal with and returned my calls immediately when we could not figure some minor things. we definitely would recommend this house and it must be beautiful in winter.

Charming and quiet in the springtime

  • 5 of 5

We arrived on a holiday weekend (Memorial Day) and were pleasantly surprised at how quiet things were in this area of the poconos. The villa is charming and thankfully not attached, so we were able to relax. The internet and movies were a nice surprise and very convenient. The hiking and sightseeing in the area is second to none, so beautiful if you're willing to go for a short drive. The owner/landlord was very pleasant and accomodating and made the whole transaction as easy as it could have possibly been. A real pleasure to work with. She was even willing to help me out when I left something behind!

Just 2 tips for any traveller: 1. If you plan on using the hot tub, and it was turned all the way down b/c you just arrived, give it a few hours to heat up. It's a lot of water and it takes some time, but it's well worth it; and 2. If you are travelling in the summer, consider the weather. The villa was lovely and cool almost every day, but when it got humid one night, it was a little tough with no A/C (though there is some kind of fan in every room). I am hoping to rent again in the winter since it appears that is prime time for this area and it promises to be a lot of wintery fun!

We stayed here during the 2008-2009 ski season. It was clean and well-appointed. The wifi was a real convenience too. One warning - it is not really walking distance from the slopes.

Owner's Response: There is a walking trail out onto slope but it is 2 village blocks to this trail and with equipment good for young, but not what I would do with ski boots on and carrying skis. It is a two minute ride to the lodge though and parking lots.
