Located on a 14 acre property, you will find tranquility, beauty, romance and nature on this rural yet convenient site. This cabin is one of two lovely and fully furnished cabins placed in service in June, 2013. This property is intended to inspire romantic interludes, spiritual renewal, inner tranquility, awe of nature, and fond memories that will last a lifetime. Our guests have loved our property and some have indicated that one of the things they found special are the many fireflies they watched from the front porch at night. Its magical! And the stars are also incredible on clear nights! Everyone has appreciated the cleanliness and quality of our cabins, and we are grateful and happy that our customers are having a great time here.
After driving up the private gravel drive (not steep and well maintained) that runs through the middle of the property, you will come to a lovely log cabin constructed of solid pine logs. After climbing up the stairs, you will enter an elevated front porch that is mostly covered, but also contains an open air portion where you can sit in the hot tub as you enjoy a cocktail or look up at the stars. A double swing bench is also available for your use on the front porch. Your main view will be across the pasture to a knoll of trees and, beyond that, the mountains, but you can also see the spring fed pond located below as well as the Christmas trees that surround the cabin. Finally, a hummingbird feeder is hung during the summer months and you will marvel at the magic of these tiny birds as they hover nearby. they are both fascinating and beautiful.
Upon entering the cabin, you will be enchanted with the warm glow of the pine logs that form the cabin's walls and that connect the matching wood floors and wood ceilings. The cabin contains electric air and heat, paired with a lovely gas powered fireplace whose primary purpose is ambiance, but that can also help heat the cabin on a snowy night ( also a particularly beautiful time to visit!). You can snuggle with someone special on the couch as you watch the new flat screen TV mounted above the fireplace. TV programming and WiFi is from the Dish Network, and a DVD player is also provided for your enjoyment.
On the other side of the main room is a fully equipped kitchen with all new appliances, a dining area with a round dining table in front of a large window to enjoy the views, and a full bath with tub and shower. Besides the normally supplied refrigerator and stove, a dishwasher, clothes washer and clothes dryer are installed for your convenience if you need them. The cabin is fully furnished with dishes and utensils, towels, and bedding, and 2 bath robes will be waiting for you to use with the hot tub, which is very easy to operate and provides good water flow and powerful jets.
The bedroom is furnished with a very comfortable queen-size bed as well as areas for storing and hanging your clothing. You can also enjoy a lovely view of the property while in bed looking out through the bedroom's main window. A CD player can be found in the bedroom.
When you are not enjoying the amenities of your cabin, there are lots of things to see and do on the property, including viewing the birds that visit the feeder containing seed in front of the cabin. Deer, turkey and rabbits are regularly seen on the property, with occasional bear, duck and bobcat seen as well. The best times to view wildlife are usually the early morning and dusk. You are free to pick wildflowers growing in the pasture or blackberries that are found along the road and near the creek during the summer.
Feel free to take a walk around the pond or along the creek fronting the property. At the entrance to the property there is a walk adn some areas where you can safely play, relax or look for salamanders, while other areas are for viewing only as the water cascades down a steep and slippery wall of rock. You can also climb through a forest of hardwoods on the knoll opposite the cabin, and a picnic table is available for the use and enjoyment of our guests. Country living doesn't get any better than this!

Hi, we are Steve and Soony Pearson, the owners of Logs and Stones Vacation Rentals. Steve is also the General Manager. We split our time between a log home in Little Switzerland and Miami since, following his retirement from his former job, Steve agreed in late 2011 to work as the Director of the University of Miami's Gifford Arboretum. While this prevents us from living in North Carolina full time, Steve is passionate about plants and their importance, and he believes he can accomplish meaningful things at the Arboretum. In the meantime, he is afforded a lot of flexibility in his schedule, and we are living in NC a good portion of the year, particularly in the summer and winter months. While we are constantly involved in improving the property and will be actively involved in all aspects of our business, we also have our friend Doug McKinney working as Property Manager. Doug's family has been in this area for many generations (you will drive on 'McKinney Mine Road' to reach our cabin!), and he has a wealth of information about same and North Carolina mountain living. He is also a genuinely nice guy who lives less than a half mile from the cabin.
We believe that we have a great team in place, and all of us are committed to insuring that your stay in the cabin will be fun and memorable. There are many lovely areas and nice properties in the mountains of North Carolina. However, there aren't many areas where you can also get a taste of traditional mountain living. While quaint and charming, Little Switzerland is not, and hopefully never will be, a tourist mecca or a wealthy enclave that some areas have become. This is partly due to geography (its at the 'Crest of the Blue Ridge'), but also because there is a lot of preserved wilderness in the area. Yes, things like golf are available locally and some homes are very expensive, but this is not an area where there are too many houses crammed together to share a view, or exclusive millionaire only housing fronting on fancy golf courses. Instead, you will drive by fields with horses and cows and then get on the Blue Ridge Parkway to go get groceries, which are only 7 miles from the cabin. This property is peaceful and bucolic, with lots of wildlife and a smattering of true characters who keep mountain independence alive, but its also convenient and easy to use. So, if you want to stay in a great cabin on a lovely property where you can still experience 'old North Carolina,' including authentic mountain music, then come try our cabin. Its soul shine!
While we love the area's rural character, its also an area where you can easily satisfy creature needs, including medical care. After looking ALL over western North Carolina, we decided that Little Switzerland was the perfect fit between a rural/natural setting and being close to stores and modern needs. It perfect to us and we believe you will feel the same way.
Our property is a special mix of terrains. Not many places offer mountain views, open pasture, forested knolls, a spring fed pond, and a creek, but you can experience and explore all of those here.
The owners' long term goals are to maintain the property as a nature preserve while also planting out what will become a de facto botanical garden. Lots of interesting species have already been planted, and one of the things that really prompted the land's purchase was its diversity.
Our property affords a unique opportunity to feel like you have 'gotten away from it all', while having the comfort of knowing that if you need good or services, or even medical care, they are not far away.
And PLEASE consider our cabin if you are a young family looking for a family get away. The couch in the cabin converts to a bed that can sleep up to 2 children, and one of our motivations in starting this business was to afford young children the same opportunity that I enjoyed and benefited from as a child - the chance to explore and discover nature, and to run wild and free in a natural environment, which unfortunately is far from the realm of experience of most children today. I know that the childhood adventures I enjoyed during summers in the NC mountains were some of the best times of my life, and that they changed me in some important and positive ways. Please consider affording your children these kinds of experiences. Staying in our cabin can be a great opportunity for your family to re-bond in a positive and meaningful way.
Nice new cabin and great location. Owners were terrific and made my stay very comfortable. This is a great location if you like the Blue Ridge Parkway, hiking, biking or just kicking back and enjoying the mountain views. I'd give it ten stars if that were an option.
This cabin was everything we needed for our Blue Ridge Parkway Roadtrip. It is located in a very quiet area and was just right for our two night stay. We would love to come back here again!

The cabin is perfect. We needed an anniversary getaway and this cabin provided just what we needed. The view and location are perfect. The check in was easy; the amenities were just right and the location provided for lots of exploring. I would definitely recommend this cabin for any couple looking for a relaxing weekend.
Excellent location for nature, quiet, gazing at the stars in the hot tub-right off of BRP, close to Little Switzerland and Spruce Pine. Wonderful set up - cozy with everything you need! We will be back!
If you get tired of relaxing or exploring our 14 acre property, you can get on the Blue Ridge Parkway for incredible views and hikes, with Crabtree Falls, Mount Mitchell, and Craggy Gardens to the south, and Linville Falls, Grandfather Mountain, and Blowing Rock/Boone to the north. Only 6 or 7 miles from the property, Crabtree Falls is a lovely falls that is best enjoyed as part of a 2 mile loop trail that includes a variety of terrain. Mount Mitchell State Park is a wild and beautiful area with lots of hiking trails and we enjoy visiting most for an evening picnic while we watch the usually spectacular sunsets.
Just 2 miles from the property, you can also hike to Grassy Creek Falls, a high, delicate fall that is quite lovely. Additional waterfalls are nearby, including on Route 80 South.
Visit Little Switzerland downtown and Spruce Pine for interesting shops and a wide assortment of restaurants. I particularly like the funky but extensive bookstore located in Little Switzerland. Besides the usual mix of fast food there are 2 good barbecue restaurants near by as well as fine dining at the Switzerland Inn, Little Switzerland Cafe, Mountain View and Knife and Fork restaurants, as well as Stuarts on the Green at the Spruce Pine Golf Course.
Spruce Pine is the sight of a blacksmiths fair each spring as well as a large gem and mineral show and a bluegrass and barbeque festival in the summer. The nearby towns of Bakersville, Burnsville, Micaville, Old Fort and Black Mountain all have their own charms as well as festivals, especially during the summer months.
Gems and minerals have and continue to play an important role in this community, and our property is just a few miles from the only commercially viable emerald mine to have ever operated in the US. You can see historic mines and try your luck at finding gemstones at the Emerald Village, less than a mile from your cabin.
Authentic mountain music is played regularly at many local venues that are close by, including the Apple Orchard and Young's Mountain Music. A little further, but within an hours drive, are Asheville with its diverse art and music offerings, the Biltmore Estate, and an extensive and international selection of fine restaurants. A wellspring of new music that often combines bluegrass, rock and international rhythms, Asheville hosts a lot of concerts as well as free music events like the Downtown After Five and Shindig on the Green series.
Be sure to also check out our favorite local spot, Roan Mountain with its famous rhododendron gardens and evergreen forests. When you go, also take at least a short walk on the Appalachian Trail that crosses at the entrance to the Park at Carver's Gap. Just an easy and short hike up to the natural balds that characterize the tops of some mountains in this area are some of the most spectacular views in NC.
On the way to Roan Mountain, you can also stop in Bakersville for some wonderful goat cheese that is produced by a local farmer. You also might try one of the great hamburgers sold at Bonnie and Clyde's in nearby and picturesque Loafers Glory.
There are many, many other things to do in the area and we provide our guests with a guide to the foregoing mentioned activities as well as a host of other activities ranging from horseback riding, golf, canoeing, skiing, whitewater rafting, etc. etc., at the cabin.
But you will also find plenty to do right on the property as you explore the hardwood knoll across from the cabin, play or hunt salamanders in the creek, or simply sit on your porch or in the hot tub watching a beautiful sunset or the stars. The fireflies can be magical.
