About Bob & Ginger Sykes

Bob & Ginger Sykes are refugees (retirees) from 30 years in corporate life. They bought this 60 acre former rural amusement park and decided to create a farm like the one owned by Bob's great uncle in Indiana. With no previous farm experience they have learned much by way of the trial & error method. We decided to give others, particularly children, the opportunity to have the same experiences Bob had as a kid visiting his great uncle's farm.

Bob & Ginger Sykes purchased this house in 2005

Why Bob & Ginger Sykes chose North Carolina

As a former rural amusement park, horse boarding and bull riding facility there were some unique amenities in place and we could quickly share our farm journey with others.

Peaceful setting

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed escaping into the natural surroundings. The farm tour was fascinating, with a wide variety of animals. And it was near enough to good restaurants. We have already planned a return visit.

Our entire family had a great time at Turtle Mist! Our children were extact about all of the animals and Bob and Ginger were so kind and knowledgeable. Such a neat experience that I would highly recommend to anyone. The house was also very clean and comfortable.

Clean, quiet, and spacious

  • 5 of 5

Bod and Ginger are so friendly and patient. Our three children loved helping on the farm and learning about animals. The house was clean and very well stocked. We had just enough space for a family of 6 and a dog. Turtle Mist Farm will be our home away from home.

My wife and I had a great experience on the farm. The guesthouse was cozy and CLEAN. The couple who own the farm are so pleasant and dedicated to their work. Great sense of hospitality. Great for a family. Good for a weekend getaway. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Weekend Excursion!

  • 5 of 5

“Turtle Mist” has been an amazing weekend excursion! This place is incredible and my review will only scratch the surface of what is here to experience. The owners, Bob & Ginger have made our weekend extremely memorable. One of the most awesome features of this place is the individual personalization they have given into this farm. When you come to visit, you get a personally guided tour where Bob & Ginger explain each of their animals, why they selected them, their trials and learning experiences as they grew their farm. You also get to help feed the animals, pet them, or watch as they make their feeding rounds to each area of the farm. This in itself is of incredible value. They spent hours talking with us and you really felt like part of their family. They discussed their transition from corporate America to this amazing small farm in NC, how much they enjoy their new found retirement occupation. We felt like we’ve known each other for many years. The guest house is also a piece of this amazing weekend – it sits on a small hill overlooking a larger pond, beautiful relaxing view, and the house is elegantly equipped with everything you need for your stay. I could go on and on about this place and can only describe this weekend getaway as simply wonderful! We thank you Bob & Ginger for going out of your way to make us feel welcome, for being so unselfish with your time to talk and joke with us, and also for making this weekend exciting, memorable, and filled with so much fun! We will Definitely be back!
