About the property

Spacious two bedroom cabin with instant lake access and a grill ready to go.

This unit sits in the middle of 600 feet of lake front property and is the closest to the lakefront swimming area. A BBQ is on the deck that overlooks the lake.

The living room area was expanded and a gas Franklin stove added to cut the chill of the cool nights. There are two bedrooms with a queen in one and a set of twins in the other. The queen bedroom has a personal touch with handpainted ferns on one wall. Sleeping space is for four but a fifth can sleep on a rollaway for no additional charge.

The kitchen includes a stove, refrigerator and microwave, dishes, pots and pans, toaster and coffee maker. The TV is a flat screen with a satellite hook-up and a DVD/VCR player.

The firepit for this cottage sits just behind the swimming area.

About Randy and Nancy Schauwecker

We are Mike and Misty. We have owned this cottage since 2007 when we purchased it from Lac O' Seasons Resort. Since then we have worked on details that give it a unique look and warm feel. We use the cottage at different times throughout the year for our own family vacations and because of this, we continue to put new ideas and personal touches into and throughout the cottage.

Misty was born and grew up in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan. Mike grew up in Iron River and throughout high school worked at Lac O' Seasons Resort, helping the owner with buildings and grounds work. After we met at, then graduated from, Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, we married and started our family in downstate, Southwest Michigan. Because our family continued to grow, along with the time we were spending on family vacations to Michigan's beautiful Western Upper Peninsula, it was a very easy decision where we would purchase a family cottage.

Randy and Nancy Schauwecker purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Randy and Nancy Schauwecker chose Upper Peninsula

We are a part of a collection of cottages that share recreation facilities including access to everything the resort has to offer. This includes cleaning services (so the cottage is clean and fresh upon your arrival), the resort's beach/swimming area on Stanley Lake (which is about 100 feet from this cottage's front door!), the Fish 'House' (to make it easy to prepare your fresh-caught dinner from Stanley Lake), and the indoor pool, sauna, and hot tub. You also have the ability to rent kayaks, a pontoon boat, and fishing boats (please feel free to bring your own boat and dock it right in front of the cottage). The recreation lodge has a fireplace, pool table/game room, small library, and access to a washer and dryer. Kids also love the many flavors of ice cream available for purchase in the recreation lodge.

What makes this cottage unique

This cottage is available to enjoy during all four seasons of the wonderland known as Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Besides summer, the other months of the year are a popular destination for golfing, bird watching, bird hunting, deer hunting (yes, there's a buck-pole!), skiing (Ski Brule Mountain is only two miles away), snowmobiling, and ice fishing.

This cottage has been the jewel atop our family vacations since we bought it and no doubt you will feel the same. We look forward to sharing it with you.

As always, with every rental, free sunset views!

Wonderful Stay

  • 5 of 5

Stayed at the Cottage in June 2014 with two teenagers. Absolutely loved the stay. The cottage is just outside of Iron River so you have the country feel, but close enough to head into town for supplies. The cottage was extremely clean, well kept and well stocked with kitchen supplies. The new gas grill on the deck allowed us to grill several nights. There were two paddle boats supplied that allowed us to get on Stanley Lake and paddle to a small island in the middle. There is also a fish cleaning shed just down from the cottage to take care of your catch.

After 4 days here the kids didn't want to leave. The sauna, hot tub and pool inside the recreation room were very clean and not crowded. Management was very helpful with towels and supplies. The owner also sells his homemade bbq sauce, Schaw's Sauce. We bought a bottle of the Sweet & Sassy and the one with some heat. Both were incredible!

We were able to take day trips to Copper Harbor and the Porcupine Mountains, each about an hour+ drive away.

Will definetly return, hopefully for some fall color tours!

Enjoy access to 600 feet of shoreline with beautiful views of Stanley Lake and 'ringside' views of spectacular sunsets.  The shoreline is dotted with boat docks, however, there is an 'L' shaped dock set aside specifically for swimming where no motor boats are allowed providing safety for swimmers in the water.   During the winter months the snowmobiles use the lake for a ride or to get to the favorite ice fishing spot.  Cross country skiing or snowshoeing on the lake is always a good workout!
