About the property

Sleeps 3. 2 Bedrooms. 1 Bathroom.

This 2 room apartment (45 m² /484 sq. f.) overlooks a paved gardened courtyard and is located in a small and quiet hidden alley of the Latin Quarter, on top of "The Hill "(Sainte Geneviève), the intellectual heart of Vibrant Latin Quarter

Completely renovated by an interior designer in January 2014, it is tastefully decorated, with nice pieces of art and antiques, completely furnished and fully equipped (TV (more than 300 channels including English channels), Internet wireless access, full equipped kitchen ...).

The apartment has a living room (with a high quality sofa/hide-a-bed that opens really easily on an "already made" bed. You are in the heart of THE “Village” not far from rue Mouffetard, one of the Food Temples of Paris and Place de la Contrescarpe, circled by cafés, terraces, restaurants... Rue Blainville will lead you to the Luxembourg Gardens and by taking a charming old stone flight of stairs (full of flowers in spring, summer and fall) you'll get to the famous Arènes de Lutèce, an ancient roman amphitheater where up to 15,000 people used to watch gladiators fighting, and the "Jardin des Plantes' (Garden of Plants with the famous National Museum of Natural History and the Botanical Gallery)

On your arrival, just open the cupboards and you will find tea, coffee, sugar... but also all the basic ingredients you need (oil, vinegar, salt and pepper, basic spices...) to cook a meal or prepare a salad.

We want you to feel at home in our place and will be glad to answer your questions and help you the best we can .

Gem in the 5th arrondissement!

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying 6 nights (end May / start June 2017) in this cosy apartment with innovative design features that make it a refreshing place to spend a holiday in Paris in the 5th arrondissement. These include: cleverly placed, ample storage spaces throughout; well-designed, well stocked, full-service, small kitchen (built-in appliances within easy reach + clever Italian-styled dish rack cupboard); motion-sensor hallway light; brilliantly designed, compact ensuite bathroom (tucked behind timbered sliding doors); well-designed wardrobe cupboards (with hanging space + his/her tie and sock/jewellery partitioned drawers); aesthetically pleasing, artfully placed artwork, sculptures and artefacts; intriguing library with maps, etc. above the compact toilet with hand basin, ingenious natural air-conditioning window shutters providing both cool relief and privacy on summery hot days.

This ground floor apartment of an inner apartment building is shielded from Rue Rollin by a quiet walled large courtyard with bench, bicycle storage and a cool shaded garden with a lovely old tree. The lively apartment community includes: residents well-known to each other but friendly and respectful to visitors; a live-in caretaker on the ground floor of the outer building; and the one-eyed, sun-loving ginger fat cat.

Anne, the host-owner, is very generous, compassionate, responsive, gracious, and well-versed with traveller requirements –see her Google+ profile. I would rate her as an excellent (10/10) host. She provided us with: a) detailed instructions for us and the taxi driver on getting to the apartment via airport, railway, road, b) detailed instructions on accessing the dual-level apartment building security system, c) a comprehensive tour of the apartment, its amenities, tips for living (places of interest, restaurants, cafes, supermarkets, pharmacies, etc.) & d) visitor handbook; all of which eased transition to living at the apartment. She even responded promptly with emergency medical options when I came down with a severe, almost fatal throat infection on a long weekend! Her thoughtfulness, attentiveness and care exceeded all our expectations.

To Anne: “We thank you for such a lovely place that is so well positioned in the 5th arrondissement. Your excellent hospitality made our stay so memorable and remarkable!”

We would recommend this property for anyone wanting a compact, cosy home away from home.

A perfect apartment for our family of three! Host JoAnne greeted us and was very accommodating.

  • 4 of 5

Beds were very comfortable and the building location was quiet. It was nice to have the kitchen for preparing coffee in the morning. Everything was very clean and made for a comfortable place to rest after a day of sightseeing. Great boulangeries and grocery nearby!

Well appointed apartment in the Latin Quarter with everything you will need

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at Rue Rollins for a week in the middle of April.

Apartment of the ground floor and is easily accessible, we were met by Anne who showed us around and acquainted us with all the amenities, a charming host.

Matrimonial Bed; I always wanted to know what this meant and it is a standard double bed, not a queen. So if you are used to a larger bed then you are going to be out of luck. My partner slept in this bed and said is was quite comfortable. I used the sofa bed in the living room which was passable albeit not the most comfortable.

The apartment though small is well laid out. The shower is ensuite and the toilet is at the other end of the apartment and is small but functional. Nice living room with a table and TV and lots of storage plus everything else you will need. Plenty of towels, heated towel rail, great shower, in fact everything you will need for a pleasant stay.

Kitchen: Very small but functional, again has everything you will need. Small dishwasher and washing machine / dryer all work very well, adequate instructions provided.

All in all the apartment is quiet, very secure, clean and very well appointed and very pleasant. If you like cats there is a friendly one eyed ginger moggy who will not hesitate to visit if you leave a window open.

Location:

The apartment is located at the end of a mainly pedestrian street about 100 meters from the vehicular road. At this end there are cafes, restaurants, shops and bars and it is quite lively. Lots to see and do.

The apartment is the last building at the end of Rue Rollins and there is access to Rue Monge down a flight of stairs about thirty in total, quite steep.

Within 250 meters of this access there are shops, the metro, a taxi stand and all the other amenities you might need.

As my partner has some mobility issues and needs the use of a wheelchair, this is not necessarily the best location, mainly because of the hilly location.

In summary we had a wonderful time in Paris, and if you are planning a visit this is a good place to hang your hat for a week or two.

Owner's Response: Thanks Len Place de la Contrescarpe is indeed on the top of the hill (Montagne Sainte Geneviève) in vibrant Latin Quarter. I didn't know your wife had reduced mobility and had to use a wheelchair. Had you told me that before your arrival I would have mention that streets around the square are not flat and ... stairs (that you can take or not to reach the square ... remain stairs even if they are charming old stone flowery stairs Small rue Blainville but also main rue Mouffetard and rue Lacepède are all up (to Square de la Contrescarpe) or down (to the River Seine) streets. Sorry that the bed was too small for both of you but (I think) I mentioned the dimensions of the matrimonial bed (140cmX190cm) in my description. That's a "normal" double bed for us. Queen size is not the norm. As far as the sofa bed is concerned (that I did not know you would use otherwise I would have insisted on showing you how to "open it in a sec' ") ... it is a top quality one and all the other guests (see below) find it even more comfortable (softer) than the double bed. So I think it depends on what you expect from a bed. Maybe not hard enough. Thanks for your comment. It always help improving the description. I'll add that we are on a square (Place de la Contrescarpe) located "on the top of a hill" and that is maybe hard for people with reduced mobility Happy May 1rst. Please accept a bit of lily of the valley for good luck and happiness

You are in a quiet hidden alley alley, on the top of the hill (Montagne Sainte Geneviève) not far from where Ernest Hemingway lived, in the heart of vibrant Latin Quarter, full of bars, restaurants, gourmet shops ...

You are near the famous rue Mouffetard, one of the best "open market street" of Paris not far from joyful Place de la Contrescarpe

You' ll be able to go to the open market Place Monge (2 min. on foot) every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday

And you are also at a stone stroke from the Arènes de Lutèce, an ancient Roman amphitheater, where you can picnic. https://www.google.fr/search?q=escalier+rue+rollin&biw=1540&bih=944&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=qY_tVKG8DIHeUob6gLgI&ved=0CCAQsAQ#tbm=isch&q=ar%C3%A8nes+de+lut%C3%A8ce

Metro and bus are reachable in 3 minutes (on foot)

Place Monge (line 7) and Cardinal Lemoine (line 10)

On Sunday you can go and dance and sing old French songs, as Parisians have been doing for more than a century at the bottom of rue Mouffetard, in front of St Médard's Church. You'll love it.

Don't worry if you don't speak French. The words will be handed to you. Free !

Please note that being "on the top of the hill" (The Hill = Montagne Sainte Geneviève: intellectual heart of Latin Quarter) all the streets leading to the square are "up" streets (a litlle bit steep if you are a person with reduced mobility or with a wheel chair). You can also reach Place de la Contrescarpe from rue Monge via a flight of old charming stone stairs ... not easy for people with reduced mobility either.
