A true full log cabin with loft, large covered porch, and private beach!
This 12-year-old lodge/cabin is a beautiful, full-log home that easily sleeps 20 in beds on three floors, with something for everyone. We've slept over 30 using the spacious downstairs, cots, and air mattresses
A 10-foot wide covered porch provides an additional 600 sq ft of summer living area providing a fantastic view of the lake and the beach, fire pit, tire swing, dock, and raft. Plenty of space to enjoy an Adirondack chair and watch the day slip away.
The beach is sandy, and we have a raft 150 feet from shore, where you can swim in clear water away from the toddlers playing on the sandy beach.
Built in 2002, the lodge has two full fireplaces, including one with a breath-taking, 22-foot stone chimney on the main floor. The lodge has 3,600 sq.ft. on three floors. A main floor with kitchen, living area, one and a half baths, and two main floor bedrooms. The walkout basement has another large living area, full bath, bedroom, utility room (4th bedroom) and small garage / work area.
The loft has one queen and three double beds, and several twin beds perfect for the little ones to experience cabin life. But while it’s a loft, don’t worry about noise from the first floor –that fresh air will knock you out the moment your head hits the pillow.
A grand piano, card table, play area, view of the lake and a small balcony are also available in the loft.
Privacy and quiet are key at this lodge, which is tucked into the woods just four miles outside of Big Rapids, MI.
The all-sport lake is perfect for fishing, tubing, skiing, and swimming. And, with only ten houses dotted around the lake, the water will usually be all yours.
A pontoon boat with fishing motor, paddleboat, paddle boards, rowboat, and kayak are all included in your rental fees. (Only between Memorial Day and Labor Day)
We have an active Facebook page with lots more inside and outside photos of the place. Search Facebook for "Loon Lake Lodge Vacations". Be sure to look at the Photo Albums.
Standard check-in times are 4:00 p.m. on the day of the arrival with check-out at 11:00 a.m. on the day of your departure.

About Paul Hillman
We live 55 miles from the lodge. We built it because we enjoy entertaining large groups, and have frequently had church groups or friends up for weekends. We’ve had as many as 42 people overnight, with 20 adults on beds and 22 children on air mattresses or in sleeping bags on the floor. We also have room outdoors for people who prefer to pitch small tents.
Paul Hillman purchased this Lodge in 2002
Why Paul Hillman chose Mecosta County
If you are looking for a real log home with a calming, rustic feel, this is the place! You can actually feel the tension melt away the moment you set foot on the 10-foot wide wraparound porch, and plop down in an Adirondack chair overlooking the lake, or in the porch swing. The lodge is perfect for company and church retreats, family reunions, etc. Some friends even think it would be a great place to hold a small wedding. Big Rapids isn’t actually “big” – and that’s part of the charm, too. But it’s big enough – near Ferris State University and small-town shopping.
What makes this Lodge unique
Our private dock and pontoon boat facilitate your fishermen's yen to get out on the water. The deep porch lets you get outdoors and remain comfortable, even when it’s raining. We have ping-pong and foosball tables in the walkout basement and a great hockey game for teens and kids of all ages. The fire ring down near the lake is a perfect gathering place for your throng to enjoy some special time together (with marshmallows!) at night, and benches easily seat 16-20 people. Firewood is provided as part of your rental.

Great cabin. Lots of space. Wrap around porch was amazing.

The lodge was amazing! Many compliments on beauty of the home itself and all that it comes with!
The Loon Lake Lodge was the perfect fit for us! With all that is provided it made for a fun relaxing stay. The Lodge itself is beautiful and had plenty of space and activities to keep people entertained from ping pong, table hockey, and darts downstairs to relaxing on couches by the warm fire. Overall Loon lake lodge was the perfect place for my trip and couldn’t have picked a better place to stay!!
Just wish the ice on the lake was a little thicker to test out the ice skates:)
We really appreciate it when people enjoy the place as much as we do! So glad our guests had a great time and next time we'll seek colder weather for ice skating!! :-)
Cozy for a Small Youth Group
This was our third year staying at Loon Lake Lodge, and of course we loved it again! We love the large stone fireplace, but the highlight is always doing pingpong tournaments in the basement. The Lodge is good for a smaller youth group (10-20), and we take around a dozen high school students each year for our own retreat. Sadly, the price continues to go up each year, making it harder to go back each year. If you can get enough people to split the cost, it is worth it!
Wonderful as always.
Wonderful property, great location, perfect host
It was wonderful in every way possible.
Very family oriented, like going to your favorite grandma's house.
This has become an annual family retreat for our entire family that each of us look forward to for the entire year.
This family is the BEST! I seriously believe they take better care of the place than we do ourselves! Rich is the best renter an owner could ask for. Their family loves the place and we love to have it available for them.
This is a private lodge away from it all, perfect for a family retreat or reunion, with no neighbors within sight of the cabin. Your view is of an 80-acre, all-sports lake that’s great for fishing, tubing, swimming, and a small beach for relaxing.

Additional information about rental rates
The Pontoon boat with motor and all other watercraft are included between Memorial Day and Labor Day only. The new Yamaha motor (2016) runs very well, but please note, it is offered as "best effort", that is, we cannot guarantee it is operational all the time. Motorized items do fail occasionally. We will work hard to quickly restore it to working order but there is no discount in the rent if problems with the boat developed. The Renter Responsibility Agreement and Loon Lake Lodge Laws are provided to you and will be used to govern your stay with us. Payment of the rent and deposit indicate your acceptance of these documents, whether you sign and read them or not.
