Log cabin at the base of the Sawtooths, just 4 miles from Stanley. We have 3 bedrooms, 1 bath, full kitchen, screened and covered porch, a covered balcony, and lots of extras. The cabin is in a quiet location (2 miles off the highway) just 7 miles from Stanley Lake and 8 miles from Redfish Lake. Our 3 acre property is bordered by a stream and forest service property. The owners' residence and shop are also on the property. The Iron Creek Campground (which is the trailhead for Alpine and Sawtooth Lakes) is less than 5 minute drive from the cabin. The owners live in another house on the property and will be glad to discuss local attractions and hiking trails.
I built this cabin over forty years ago and, as a teacher, I have lived here every summer--hiking the trails and enjoying the nearby lakes.
Jim and Adrienne Stark purchased this cabin in 1975
The cabin is in a quiet location on 3 acres bordering Forest Service land, just 4 miles from Stanley and close to hiking trails and lakes. Goat Creek runs alongside the lower part of the property.
The cabin is well-equipped, with a full kitchen, comfortable beds and furniture, a screened front porch and a balcony. There is a barbeque available upon request.

Jim and Adrienne were the host and hostess with the mostest!
Upon entering the lovely Bluebird Cabin, our hosts had set out several dozen, homemade healthy fruity/nutty and some with chocolate cookies! Yummy!
Our rooms were each decorated with a lovely rustic theme and the mattresses were all new and comfortable.
The refrigerator was huge and brand new with LED lights and the kitchen was better equipped than most gourmet kitchens are, (super kitchen gadgets, handmade rolling pin, etc.).
The cabin was set up so if the power went off, gas lights could be lit for a backup.
Jim and Adrienne invited us to a Saturday afternoon visit to their home, complete with fabulous drinks and wonderful homemade triple chocolate brownies.
Their deck overlooks a babbling stream with lovely wild flowers all around. (as well as lovely native species of flowers that were all blooming). A well taken care of piece of land).
On my first night of our Women's first annual retreat, (work pals), I read/viewed, Jim Stark's coffee table photo book, of all the mountain peaks nearby.
Jim also had a complete list and detailed instructions on hiking trails to the higher peaks in the Sawtooth Mountains.
I am a vegetarian and Jim suggested several places. We ate at the Sawtooth Hotel and I had a FABULOUS, tofu and brown rice dish, (my friends said the flat iron steak was perfect and the Quinoa Spaghetti was divine!).
From the front yard, I took photos of a newly fledged bluebird and of the resident fox, plus the view from the Sawtooth Mountains from the cabin was breathtaking!
We all enjoyed the fire area and had a small fire with Somemore's and we all roasted marsh mallows and relaxed as the moon came up over the Sawtooth Mountains, (all campfire supplies were provided, including the water hose for the fire ring for safety and dousing the fire, safety first!
The sun porch was so relaxing with a real "swinging" swing and lots of chairs for all.
I would recommend the Bluebird Cabin for smaller family reunions or just a get away for a couple or like us, a Women's weekend Retreat to just relax and walk the shores of Stanley Lake.
Jim and Adrienne were very gracious as hosts and we all left with some of Jim's photo artwork, which I am framing.
God Bless and thank you both for your kindness and hospitality!

Cabin was very clean and well kept. Even had fresh baked cookies when we got there. The Owners live on the property so they were available for any questions we had. We visited Stanley Lake, Red Fish Lake and took the drive over the pass to Idaho City. Would definitely visit again!
The cabin was cozy and clean. We had a little trouble finding the cabin as we arrived after dark. The kitchen had everything we needed (stove, microwave, toaster, pans etc). What I enjoyed most the the close proximity to hiking and fabulous views just up the road within a 5 min walk from the cabin. Jim and his family were great hosts. We will definitely be back. Thanks for letting us stay!
Owner Jim was there to greet us upon arrival and lives just across the lane. He even provided s'more supplies and the freshly baked cookies barely made it through the weekend. Cabin was perfect for a guys weekend getaway to hit fishing spots around Stanley. Hiking trails just up the lane to some great views.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Bluebird Cabin. It has a very well equipped kitchen (no dishwasher, but that's OK with us), comfy bedroom and sitting area. We enjoyed sitting both in the yard, looking up at a view of the mountains, and on the screened-in porch. The home-made cookies provided when we checked in were a yummy reward after we returned from hiking each afternoon. And speaking of hiking - the cabin is located with easy access to trailheads in the Sawtooth Mountains, White Cloud Peaks & Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness areas. Jim is also an avid hiker, and offered recommendations of suitable hikes - the cabin also has numerous guide books of the area.
This property is just we needed for our family of 6 to unplug and unwind in beautiful Stanley for a few days. All of your basic needs are here, accompanied by a wonderful host who was conveniently present on site but not at all intrusive. Jim provided us treats for the fox which the kids absolutely loved. He also kindly printed us chess rules at my daughter's request and so began our endeavor to learn the game of chess at a cabin in the mountains when we weren't otherwise out hiking and playing at the lake.
We very much enjoyed the peace and the feeling of "back to basics" while here.
The kitchen is well stocked. Home is clean and well kept. Beds were comfortable. While cozy and small, there's plenty of space on the screened porch and upstairs to tuck your gear. Be cautioned the stairs are a bit steep, very young children (our four year olds managed fine), or older folks might not fare well with the stairs.
We intend to return as a family next summer!
