About the property

3 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 6

Log cabin at the base of the Sawtooths, just 4 miles from Stanley. We have 3 bedrooms, 1 bath, full kitchen, screened and covered porch, a covered balcony, and lots of extras. The cabin is in a quiet location (2 miles off the highway) just 7 miles from Stanley Lake and 8 miles from Redfish Lake. Our 3 acre property is bordered by a stream and forest service property. The owners' residence and shop are also on the property. The Iron Creek Campground (which is the trailhead for Alpine and Sawtooth Lakes) is less than 5 minute drive from the cabin. The owners live in another house on the property and will be glad to discuss local attractions and hiking trails.

About Jim and Adrienne Stark

I built this cabin over forty years ago and, as a teacher, I have lived here every summer--hiking the trails and enjoying the nearby lakes.

Jim and Adrienne Stark purchased this cabin in 1975

Why Jim and Adrienne Stark chose Idaho

The cabin is in a quiet location on 3 acres bordering Forest Service land, just 4 miles from Stanley and close to hiking trails and lakes. Goat Creek runs alongside the lower part of the property.

What makes this cabin unique

Jim and Adrienne were the host and hostess with the mostest!

Upon entering the lovely Bluebird Cabin, our hosts had set out several dozen, homemade healthy fruity/nutty and some with chocolate cookies! Yummy!

Our rooms were each decorated with a lovely rustic theme and the mattresses were all new and comfortable.

The refrigerator was huge and brand new with LED lights and the kitchen was better equipped than most gourmet kitchens are, (super kitchen gadgets, handmade rolling pin, etc.).

The cabin was set up so if the power went off, gas lights could be lit for a backup.

Jim and Adrienne invited us to a Saturday afternoon visit to their home, complete with fabulous drinks and wonderful homemade triple chocolate brownies.

Their deck overlooks a babbling stream with lovely wild flowers all around. (as well as lovely native species of flowers that were all blooming). A well taken care of piece of land).

On my first night of our Women's first annual retreat, (work pals), I read/viewed, Jim Stark's coffee table photo book, of all the mountain peaks nearby.

Jim also had a complete list and detailed instructions on hiking trails to the higher peaks in the Sawtooth Mountains.

I am a vegetarian and Jim suggested several places. We ate at the Sawtooth Hotel and I had a FABULOUS, tofu and brown rice dish, (my friends said the flat iron steak was perfect and the Quinoa Spaghetti was divine!).

From the front yard, I took photos of a newly fledged bluebird and of the resident fox, plus the view from the Sawtooth Mountains from the cabin was breathtaking!

We all enjoyed the fire area and had a small fire with Somemore's and we all roasted marsh mallows and relaxed as the moon came up over the Sawtooth Mountains, (all campfire supplies were provided, including the water hose for the fire ring for safety and dousing the fire, safety first!

The sun porch was so relaxing with a real "swinging" swing and lots of chairs for all.

I would recommend the Bluebird Cabin for smaller family reunions or just a get away for a couple or like us, a Women's weekend Retreat to just relax and walk the shores of Stanley Lake.

Jim and Adrienne were very gracious as hosts and we all left with some of Jim's photo artwork, which I am framing.

God Bless and thank you both for your kindness and hospitality!

Sister Sarah

Cute cabin, good location

  • 5 of 5

Cute little cabin. Sleeps six in three bedrooms. Good location, about 10-15 minutes outside of "downtown" Stanley. Gorgeous countryside.

Another Terrific Holiday

  • 5 of 5

This was our third stay at the Bluebird Cabin and we have already booked for next year. It's become a favorite retreat. The Starks are wonderful hosts. We love the cabin. It's rustic, but very comfortable and the views sooth the soul. It's far enough away from the traffic in an out of Stanley proper, but close enough to all of the scenery and recreation the SNRA has to offer. And, if you cannot leave the devices at home, there's wifi or catching up on email, the news, and streaming Netflix.

Paradise Found

  • 5 of 5

Our family had an idyllic stay at Bluebird Cabin. The afternoon of our arrival, we were greeted by the owner, Jim, who welcomed us with a chilled bottle of wine and a batch of freshly baked cookies. A portion of the Sawtooth range is visible from the cabin's screened porch. When we weren't making S'mores at the fire pit, (Jim also supplied the fixings for these treats) we spent our evenings on the porch admiring the breathtaking view. We also had some sightings of Mountain blue birds and a visit from the resident fox.

The cabin itself is rustic but very comfortable and cozy, and the location is ideal. We were within an short drive to both Redfish and Stanley Lakes, and also the town of Stanley. The owners have certainly put a lot of effort into making it a welcoming retreat. I forgot to pack coffee for our stay, and was delighted to discover the cabin had a fully stocked coffee bar. Books, games, hiking guides, and many other amenities were also provided. We will definitely book another stay at Bluebird Cabin. Thank you for your hospitality, Jim & Adrienne!

Great Comfy funky Cabin

  • 5 of 5

Bluebird Cabin was the perfect place for us to stay while doing some hiking in the Sawtooth Mountains. It is close to Stanley and to many trail heads. Jim, our host has many years experience hiking in the area and gave us great advice on where to best spend our time. The cabin was super comfortable and had an amazingly well-equipped kitchen. If you forgot and important spice or ingredient there was probably some in the kitchen as well as wine and homemade cookies for us to enjoy. The cabin was also well stocked with towels, blankets and enough interesting reading material to keep you happy if the weather should be uncooperative. We especially liked hanging out in the screened porch area in the evenings. I hope we can come stay here again and do more hiking and exploring in the area.

Old cabin, but full of character and charm

  • 5 of 5

Very clean and well stocked. We enjoyed our stay at the cabin. Air conditioning would have been VERY helpful, but then again it was unusually hot for the Stanley area. Jim was very helpful, knowledgeable and kind.

Nice place, everything as described. Owners were helpful but unobtrusive. Nice hikes to see the mountains right from the house. Would go back again!
