About the property

3 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 6

Log cabin at the base of the Sawtooths, just 4 miles from Stanley. We have 3 bedrooms, 1 bath, full kitchen, screened and covered porch, a covered balcony, and lots of extras. The cabin is in a quiet location (2 miles off the highway) just 7 miles from Stanley Lake and 8 miles from Redfish Lake. Our 3 acre property is bordered by a stream and forest service property. The owners' residence and shop are also on the property. The Iron Creek Campground (which is the trailhead for Alpine and Sawtooth Lakes) is less than 5 minute drive from the cabin. The owners live in another house on the property and will be glad to discuss local attractions and hiking trails.

About Jim and Adrienne Stark

I built this cabin over forty years ago and, as a teacher, I have lived here every summer--hiking the trails and enjoying the nearby lakes.

Jim and Adrienne Stark purchased this cabin in 1975

Why Jim and Adrienne Stark chose Idaho

The cabin is in a quiet location on 3 acres bordering Forest Service land, just 4 miles from Stanley and close to hiking trails and lakes. Goat Creek runs alongside the lower part of the property.

What makes this cabin unique

The cabin is well-equipped, with a full kitchen, comfortable beds and furniture, a screened front porch and a balcony. There is a barbeque available upon request.

Jim and Adrienne were the host and hostess with the mostest!

Upon entering the lovely Bluebird Cabin, our hosts had set out several dozen, homemade healthy fruity/nutty and some with chocolate cookies! Yummy!

Our rooms were each decorated with a lovely rustic theme and the mattresses were all new and comfortable.

The refrigerator was huge and brand new with LED lights and the kitchen was better equipped than most gourmet kitchens are, (super kitchen gadgets, handmade rolling pin, etc.).

The cabin was set up so if the power went off, gas lights could be lit for a backup.

Jim and Adrienne invited us to a Saturday afternoon visit to their home, complete with fabulous drinks and wonderful homemade triple chocolate brownies.

Their deck overlooks a babbling stream with lovely wild flowers all around. (as well as lovely native species of flowers that were all blooming). A well taken care of piece of land).

On my first night of our Women's first annual retreat, (work pals), I read/viewed, Jim Stark's coffee table photo book, of all the mountain peaks nearby.

Jim also had a complete list and detailed instructions on hiking trails to the higher peaks in the Sawtooth Mountains.

I am a vegetarian and Jim suggested several places. We ate at the Sawtooth Hotel and I had a FABULOUS, tofu and brown rice dish, (my friends said the flat iron steak was perfect and the Quinoa Spaghetti was divine!).

From the front yard, I took photos of a newly fledged bluebird and of the resident fox, plus the view from the Sawtooth Mountains from the cabin was breathtaking!

We all enjoyed the fire area and had a small fire with Somemore's and we all roasted marsh mallows and relaxed as the moon came up over the Sawtooth Mountains, (all campfire supplies were provided, including the water hose for the fire ring for safety and dousing the fire, safety first!

The sun porch was so relaxing with a real "swinging" swing and lots of chairs for all.

I would recommend the Bluebird Cabin for smaller family reunions or just a get away for a couple or like us, a Women's weekend Retreat to just relax and walk the shores of Stanley Lake.

Jim and Adrienne were very gracious as hosts and we all left with some of Jim's photo artwork, which I am framing.

God Bless and thank you both for your kindness and hospitality!

Sister Sarah

Convenient location, good value for money.

  • 4 of 5

We had a pleasant enough stay, but the cabin is cramped and cluttered with owner's storage items and boxes, at the expense of adequate storage for guests. The stairs are very steep, and although three double bedrooms, there is little privacy between two of the rooms. Good supply of towels and sheets, but the under-bedding, comforters and bathroom rug are musty and need laundering. Cabin, furnishings, and such draperies as there are, all need cleaning. Very small table and insufficient dining and lounge seating for six people. Space could be better utilized by removing old solid fuel range and putting the electric oven in the kitchen work area. Overall impression is that the cabin and contents have been "hobbled" together. Cabin could be much more attractive with a little upgrading of amenities. No doubt there are guests who would think otherwise.......... Owner is friendly and helpful, and the cookies and wine in fridge were a nice touch. We certainly enjoyed the Stanley area, and the cabin is well situated for walking and exploring.

Owner's Response: I am sorry there were parts of your stay that were not okay for you. It is a small cabin. It was comfortable for my family of four for years, but a larger group would find it tight. Removing the wood cook stove would provide more room, but our spring and winter guests enjoy it, and I have many fond memories that include the stove (baking bread and making pancakes for my young children). The furniture, drapes, and bed linens are all new this summer. The storage boxes have thick quilts (it gets cold), and games for children, but I can move some of the boxes. The “hobbled together” look may be because I built everything myself. Most of our guests have enjoyed the “rustic” atmosphere of the log cabin. It was nice to have guests from England and I enjoyed the chance to visit with you. I hope the rest of your visit went well.

Jim and Adrianne stark have made this cabin the perfect place to stay. The cabin is fully stocked with everything you need to cook, including an

Amazing wood burning stove if your feeling adventurous. The cabin was close to the town of Stanley making this the perfect getaway cabin. We will return again. Jeff

Clean, cozy and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was just what we needed while exploring the beautiful lakes and trails in the area. The owners are friendly and accessible without being intrusive. They have provided many thoughtful touches in the cabin. My favorite spot was the screened in porch. We had everything we needed to cook well, including a double oven and a full set of nice pots and pans and a large crockpot. We would definitely stay here again if we return to the area.

Great mountain retreat!

  • 4 of 5

This cabin is located off Iron Creek Road, which provides the best access to some great hikes in the Sawtooth Mountains. The kitchen is equipped with everything you could possibly need -- with new, large appliances. The owners are friendly and helpful -- we had fresh baked cookies and a bottle of wine waiting for us as a welcome gift. The master bedroom is on the main floor with two bedrooms in the spacious attic area; one with a queen bed, and the other with 2 twin beds. The living room is comfy, but smallish. The screen porch is nice; and the firepit would be a good place to congregate when fire restrictions are lifted The cabin has a remote feel; but is only 4 or 5 miles from downtown Stanley. I'd give five stars if the cabin had two bathrooms.
