Log cabin at the base of the Sawtooths, just 4 miles from Stanley. We have 3 bedrooms, 1 bath, full kitchen, screened and covered porch, a covered balcony, and lots of extras. The cabin is in a quiet location (2 miles off the highway) just 7 miles from Stanley Lake and 8 miles from Redfish Lake. Our 3 acre property is bordered by a stream and forest service property. The owners' residence and shop are also on the property. The Iron Creek Campground (which is the trailhead for Alpine and Sawtooth Lakes) is less than 5 minute drive from the cabin. The owners live in another house on the property and will be glad to discuss local attractions and hiking trails.

Great place, would love to come back!
Great central location for hiking and access to lakes nearby and Stanley. Cabin had everything we needed. The owner even took our group picture the day we left and emailed it to me.
Adorable and comfortable with a great host.
Bluebird Cabin is quaint and homey, just as we expected it to be. I loved how close it was to the town, yet it felt almost remote. While not fancy, it was perfect for our stay. We found everything we needed in the kitchen, including spices and other kitchen basics there for our convenience, a nice little coffee station, plenty of towells and warm blankets for the cool nights, and fans for help with the warm daytime.
There were lots of books of local interest, and a great little library to relax with after a long day of exploring, and even cell phone service and WIFI. Pretty impressive when you consider that both are pretty new to Stanley!
The host, Jim Stark, was very kind and welcoming. He even had fresh baked cookies waiting for us on the table! We thoroughly enjoyed his books of his time exploring the gorgeous Sawtooth Mountains, and he has a massive knowledge of the area and is willing to help you find almost anything you want in the Stanley Basin!
I would caution anyone who wants to rent it that the stairs to the loft area are very steep, so it may not be for anyone with mobility issues, but for most people it is just part of the mountain cabin experience.
Overall, our stay was a very pleasant one, and we would definitely like to visit again.
Bluebird is a VRBO homerun
Jim's cozy cabin outside Stanley makes for a stellar getaway. You're close enough to town to run in and pick up the last minute essentials but far enough away that you feel disconnected simultaneously. It's clear Jim loves the Sawtooths -- from his photo books to his local hiking trail recommendations and his building the Bluebird Cabin more than 40 years ago. Do yourself a favor and spend a few nights drinking wine under the stars listening to the stream cut through Jim's backyard. You won't regret it.
Hands down the best stay we have had in Staley Idaho. This cabin is perfect for a piecful get away
Our stay could not have been better, we checked satilite images of the area before we rented, you must see it to believe it the view is unbelievable. The suroundings are covered with rich pine trees. The wild life was plentiful. The cabin has everything you would want or need for cooking relaxing and just unwinding. It is located within minutes of the worlds best cross country skiing , snowmobiling, hiking fishing and more. I have enjoyed the Stanley valley for over 40 years. This cabin was the best Jims hospitality and knowledge of the area was impeccable. This is that dream property you wish you could retire on.
Thanks Jim we will be back
What a thoughtful review. Thank you. I love having guests who appreciate the Stanley area as much as I do. I'll look forward to seeing you there again.
Jim was so helpful and close by with any questions or concerns.
There was a fire started and fresh cookies when we got there! It is a perfect cabin to get away to the mountains and explore the Sawtooths. Close enough to Stanley but away from the people and nestled amongst the trees. Easy access to hiking/snow shoeing right from the front door! Would rent again for sure!
Outstanding as usual
The Sawtooths don’t disappoint. The bluebird cabin doesn’t either. Sweet place to stay. Greeted with a fire and warm from the oven cookies! Hosts are the best.
