Barn Loft Apartment W/ Full Kitchen & Bath, Sleeps 6, Private Deck

This loft apartment has everything you need: A full kitchen and bath, separate bedroom, roomy den, and its own entrance for total privacy. Gorgeous wood floors, cathedral ceilings and skylights abound in this apartment that has a private master bedroom with a queen-size bed, a lovely den with two full-size pull-out couches and a fun loft area with two full-size mattresses. The kitchen is European style and has a full-size refrigerator and stove with oven, and the bathroom, completely renovated in 2016, includes a full-size shower. There's a large wood deck where you can relax and watch wildlife, or check to see what our horses are doing.

Why Matt Claussen chose San Juan Island

We searched for years to find just the right place where we could be near the breath-taking beauty of the ocean and the majesty of whales and also keep our beloved horses at home. Our farm has a perfect central location, and we are ten minutes away in either direction from the best that San Juan Island has to offer, including whale watching, beachcombing, kayaking, great restaurants and fun shops.

What makes this apartment unique

Our farm is a favorite of tourists, who often pull over on the road out front to take a photo! We especially love the red metal roofs that top every building--hence the name we gave it. While we are in the 'rain shadow' and therefore protected from getting the rain that Seattle is famous for, if it does have a brief shower here you will enjoy the rhythm of the rain on the roof. And minutes later, when the sun is back out, you can walk out onto the deck and spot a deer stepping out of the woods that are only steps from your door.

Beautiful, Private, Quiet, and Clean

I really enjoyed my stay at Red Roof Acres! The upstairs apartment is spacious, clean, and although the wood floors and other wood accents give it a beautifully rustic feel, it has all the modern amenities. I'm always curious about the bed when I read reviews (always trying to avoid back pain!), and I can tell you I slept like a log (a comfortable log for 4 nights!), waking rested and refreshed every day. The pictures are certainly accurate, but really don't do the place's truly beautiful, serene and worth every penny.....and I live on a beautiful farm at home!

I've stayed in many VRBO's and have been fortunate to have had lovely experiences, but Matt and Amy are certainly a calibre above the norm. They were both kind, helpful, informative, and very inviting. I felt welcome - even when they happened to see me in town one day, before I had spotted them, they stopped me to say hello and chat, and see how my day was going. That being said, while at the house, the space is so well situated, that I could have as private and quiet of an experience as I wanted, or knock on their door if I needed.

I travelled with my two dogs and found the island(s) to be VERY dog friendly. Friday and Roche Harbors offered (tasty!) eateries and most stores that dogs could enter - the other islands were similar. If you are a dog guardian and traveling with your four-legged companions, this place is awesome! And I should note that I have pretty strict cleanliness requirements for my dogs (flea free, regular baths, NO dog odors, NO accidents - I love dogs but don't like to live in "dog"), so my expectations for a clean house are very high, and this house met my expectations (and more) with flying colors.

I have been to 3 of the 4 islands serviced by the WA State Ferries and think San Juan is by far the most picturesque. The rolling green hills and open landscape offer panoramic views, whether driving or hiking, often with a backdrop of snowcapped mountains, including The Olympics and Mt. Baker. Most of the hikes I took were through historical landmarks, that gave such a sense of going back in time - because structures and landscape have been preserved for over a century!

If you were a friend headed to Washington, I would strongly suggest a visit to The San Juans and a stay at Red Roof Acres! You won't be disappointed....and I'd want to hear all about your trip when you got back! :)

Absolutely gorgeous! Cozy and very comfortable!

Highly recommend! We were overwhelmed by the beauty of this property when we arrived-- it looked like it was from out of a picture book. The loft was so cozy and comfortable, and the hosts are absolutely lovely. Enjoy!

A gem on San Juan Island!

Matt and Amy's apartment is a truly lovely place. The setting is divine--a broad expanse of farmland, woods, chickens, friendly dogs, and beautiful horses. The apartment itself has everything you could need or want, and is cozy and comfortable. Matt and Amy are extremely generous hosts. We look forward to our next opportunity to stay at Red Roof Acres!

Amazing farm, animals, hosts and house!

My kids and I had the best stay at this property, it was the highlight of the trip for them. The house is nicely situated close to Friday Harbor and beaches. Matt and Amy are really wonderful people, they were super sweet with my kids and talked with them about the animals on their farm.

We arrived to farm fresh eggs in the fridge, fruit from their orchard on the table, and fresh flowers. My kids enjoyed playing with the owners awesome dogs, checking out the chickens, collecting eggs, and seeing their beautiful horses.

The house was super clean and comfy and we had one of the best stays on our vacation. It had everything we all needed and wanted. I enjoyed morning coffee on the deck overlooking the pasture and meadows. My kids are already talking about going back next year. I highly recommend this wonderful property.

Our cancellation policy:Bookings canceled at least 30 days before the start of the stay will receive a 100% refund.
