We as homeowners love to hear all of the fantastic stories and experiences from some of our guests. Additionally we hope our guests that choose to stay at our property in this lovely country Costa Rica love it as much as we do in our time here. However, international travel/ living is not for everyone. The little fishing village were we are located has one lane bridges, street peddlers(awesome shows), 2 banks with really, really, really long lines. Our home is on a gravel road with more bicycles than cars, even more, most of the cars are unmarked taxis moving people around this beach community at all times of the night. Costa Rica Roads are narrow, the driving culture is young, they drive fast and take chances. Power goes out regularly here and in all of Central America, the water comes and goes, there ARE BUGS, BATS, SNAKES, and MOSQUITOS. We tell you these things because we know beach towns are not for everyone. Experience tells us its best that our guests come prepared for our beach town. Come with an open mind, take a deep breath, and walk a little bit slower. We think that You'll love it!
Our home is lovely and appointed to a more upscale traveller expectations, it is very spacious for the Caribbean area and hope that you enjoy it if you decide to stay with us.

Beautiful Fresh Home in Paradise! 4 Bedrooms near Playa Negra.
I just spent a week in the Tinoski Lodge - it was wonderful! Our group was 2 adults and 3 kids. The house has 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, upstairs living room, downstairs living room, and a kitchen. The home appears to be very recently renovated, everything is very fresh and clean. The house has a washer and dryer, which were very handy with beach sand on everything. The downstairs porch has a great outdoor dining table and a cool bench for relaxing. Upstairs porch has a hammock and 2 lounge chairs. The kitchen was well furnished with pots, pans, utensils, plates, etc. The home has 2 flat screen TV's and WiFi that works quite well. Bring your Netflix login in case of a rainy evening!
A great touch was the assortment of beach goodies including chairs, coolers, beach towels, bucket and "tools" for sand castle building, and a mat. No need to pack all that stuff, it's waiting for you in the house!
The communication for booking was easy. Communication leading up the stay was very good. I got text messages from David (property manager) the day before arrival up to the arrival to coordinate and meet. He was there to meet us, open the gate, and to show us all around the house and the yard. He shared tips on restaurants, beaches, where to go, etc. He also shared some history of the neighborhood, the plants and fruits local to the area. Similar coordination for checkout. He did an excellent job!
Location: outside of town and near the Playa Negra (Black Sand Beach). It was very convenient, but quiet and without the traffic and noise of town. I was quite happy.
Added tip: the brewery down the beach towards town was excellent for food and beer! I'll miss that Horizon Pale Ale!
Excellent Family Vacation House!
Beautifully decorated family house which is fully loaded and within 5 min drive from the beach. No air conditioning, but many fans. Small grocery store on the same street. Ample space for all. Rare washer AND dryer - very helpful for family with young kids (ours were 1, 9, and 1 yo). Bring bug spray. Best beach was Punta UVA 20min drive. Great hike in Cahuita National Park with beaches. Friendly and kind house manager - David - has lived here locally for 9 years. Check directions directly from Alis as the wrong directions are on VRBO website currently. Otherwise great house, felt safe, good location. Will visit again.
Beautiful house! Great and safe location!
The owners Toby and Alis are great hosts.... we were late to arrive because of traffic on the highway ... they stayed late to meet us and pass off the keys to the house, not mention, Toby s mother in law made all of us cheeseburgers at 1030pm ,we had a killer dinner after our commute, and then went on to the point bar and grill for some beers, where he introduced us to the owner ,and then off to the house! We couldn't have asked for a better host ,the house was spectacular !
Steer well clear
I have taken some time to “cool off” before writing this review, and have taken some pains to highlight the good with the bad.
First, the good news. The Tinoski lodge has some things going for it – generally a good set up for a group of 7-8, and close enough to town to reach via a long walk. We loved the town – Puerto Viejo is a simple but hip beach / surfing village with some good restaurants. Note that the Playa Negra beach is a shorter walk, but at least double the 3 blocks described in the listing. The house was simple but decorated well, and we were pleased with the appliances and furniture. The grounds were pleasant and had potential to be really nice, but were torn up / in the process of being landscaped (possible due to some recent plumbing work – more below). Piki the housekeeper was ok once we figured out his communication style (monosyllabic texts preferred). Also it was very nice that the owner provided a new coffee maker promptly after we let her know it as missing.
Unfortunately, the bad news was downright awful. The main problem we had was that certain important items were in poor repair, and the owner became non-responsive. The water pump broke one morning and although housekeeper got it going again, the water that came out was now “Cacao” colored (although we referred to it by a more descriptive and disgusting Spanish word while we were there). The reason was obvious from looking in the yard – the outdoor water system was put together using a McGyver-esque, jury-rigged technique. A couple other major problems as well – one upstairs bathroom was unusable as the pipes leaked onto the downstairs bedroom (waking up the unfortunate sleeper there on our first day). And then one of the electrical outlets literally fell out of wall (the same McGyver must have installed it), sparking furiously and almost lit the curtains on fire. We were all fortunately in the house at the time, and were able to avert a disaster much worse than the polluted water. Needless to say we did not enjoy much of our stay.
If the owners would get the place fixed up, and would have the politeness to be responsive in the face of issues, perhaps this listing will have some potential. Until then I would steer completely clear.
We are sorry to hear about your unfortunate experience with the water systems in our home. It was truly not our attention, we were also traveling the day the water went out and arrived in Costa Rica the same day you left.
Our home is equipped with two individual water systems as to provide backup when the public water system is down as is so common in Central America. Water systems in the region tend to be over utilized by the public, and under engineered. During Holiday and high volume travel seasons, water and power come and go unfortunately. When we arrived we were informed by our neighbor that the power did go out in Puerto Viejo, and caused the pump-station for the city water system to go down and the water stopped flowing. Meanwhile we had our property manager switch you over to the secondary water system(a combination of spring and well water). Yes, this water is not for drinking due to the silt in the water but it is not polluted as you so arrogantly stated. We truly wish this would not of happened but it was circumstances we can not control as home owners.
The electrical outlet you referred to did not fall out of the wall as you stated, someone pulled it out as the electrical box behind the drywall was also pulled through on the top..(Maybe one of your kids did this?) Just a thought.. We understand that accidents happen, but no reason to place false blame or accuse of faulty construction in order to avoid paying for your damages.
You're condescending remarks about our Property Managers language skills (he speaks 3 languages fluently) truly is inappropriate. I won't elaborate further.
In closing, we offered this guest $350(equal to one nights stay, taxes/cleaning fee excluded) for the inconvenience. He followed up with the threat, "give me my money back or I'll write you a negative review", this of course, after he stayed in the home the entire 4 days/3 nights stay as booked.
We still love our Costa Rica home and hope all that stay with us do.

Jungle Paradise!! We didn't want to leave!!
We loved our time at this jungle home. Our 3 kids (ages 6,10 and 13) had a blast. We felt completely safe and comfortable, it's really nice to be away from the busy town and road of Puerto Viejo. The property is still very close to some amazing restruants and stunning beaches. The house itself is gorgeous. Loved the air conditioner in the main bedroom and the Beds were super comfy. Bathrooms are nice. There is also staff that live in close proximinity and will help you with anything you may need on your visit. The grounds are spectacular, with nice walking trails out the back door and the property is huge with abundant wildlife to checkout. Wish we were still there😊 !!!
Impresionante lugar
Totalmente recomendado, un lugar mágico en contacto con la naturaleza, además de estar totalmente equipado, mucha privacidad y la casa muy espaciosa y confortable....
Location
The POINT Beachfront Bar & Grill is one of our favorite watering holes. Have questions? Want to meet a local? Go there and ask for Sean or Popeye(yes, he really thinks he's a pirate) The World famous Jaguar Animal Rescue Center is just miles away.
