Spacious house in a beautiful location, could use some attention

  • 3 of 5

We visited for a week in Aug, 2018. We had difficulty getting access into the house, as the instructions to access the key were incorrect. We couldn't reach the owner immediately to resolve, he was out of the country, but he responded probably 90 minutes- 2 hours from when we arrived to resolve it. That was frustrating as we just wanted to get settled, put the food in the fridge, and relax. The house is spacious, comfortable, on a beautful spot on Squam; lots of shade, and with lake access. Lots of porch space and hammocks in the yard. Kitchen is large, and has a foosball table in it, which is fun. We had asked if another couple would be allowed to pitch a tent for a night or two, and the owner kindly offered the use of an adjacent bunk house for them. We had difficulties operating the tv. We don't normally watch much tv, but had some rainy days..you kind of have to stand in a certain spot with the remote to get it to work. comfortable couch in living area. The master bedroom did not have a blanket on the bed, just sheets; the first night was a cool rainy night, I contacted the owner about that, and he had the cleaning person deliver a clean blanket, she brought it that night. There is a glassed in porch with 2 screen doors with a finished picnic style table and wicker furniture. very nice except most of the glass is fogged up and needs replacing/renovation. That room would be so much nicer if the glass was replaced so that you could truly enjoy the beautiful view while relaxing or dining on the porch. There was supposed to be access to a gas grill--it was very dirty and there was no propane in the tank. Didn't feel like cleaning up other people's mess on my vacation, nor buying a full tank of propane, so didn't use. There was a small charcoal grill, but also very dirty and the tray too rusted to use. The oven needed cleaning, every time we tried to use it, the smoke alarms went off in the house. There is a dock that you can fish from, or swim from. very nice, but for a heavier person, the steps going in/wood it was attached to did not feel secure, kind of wobbled. Kayak and canoe but full of cobwebs and needed a good cleaning with a hose. The lake had a lot of algae blooms this year, never seen that at Squam before, probably due to the extreme heat; hope it doesn't get worse. I could love this place if it got a bit more attention and care taking.

Lovely

Beautiful setting! We were up in the dead of winter and had prob with the heat which they did fix after several freezing hours. Not enough blankets! We’d love to go back when it’s warmer.

Roomy cottage in a great location

  • 5 of 5

The cottage has a great living room space with comfy couches, a fireplace and a large window looking out at the lake. It also has a great outdoor area for hanging out or engaging in sports activities. We took advantage of the kayaks to paddle out onto the lake to enjoy the beautiful fall foliage view of the mountains surrounding the lake. There are also plenty of great hiking opportunities within a short driving distance.

3 night get away!

  • 5 of 5

We spent 3 nights at Squam Lake! It was nice that we could bring our dog! She loved it!

Did some fishing, we weren't very successful! Kinda bummed about that. The water was probably too cold!

The place was very nice! I can't imagine that you can use much more than what they have provided!

We we're able to get the tv to work. Tom did tell us to call, we chose not to!

Maybe some simple tv instructions, left at the cottage, would be helpful!

Would go again!
