About the property

Perfectly designed and constructed for optimum enjoyment with 3br/2bath home

Whether looking for a couple's retreat, a weekend with friends, or a family getaway to build sand castles and driftwood forts, the Kingfisher Beach House is the perfect combination of architectural and natural beauty. Nestled peacefully toward the end of a forgotten beach road, this home brings the Olympic Mountains and Admiralty Inlet into every moment of your vacation.

The 'Kingfisher' is so close to the beach that we built it on stilts and from almost every angle of the angular home you are greeted by water. At night, you will fall asleep to the chuckle of churning waves, and in the morning your eyes will open to soft light painted on the snow-capped Olympic Mountains. Once inside, you are surrounded by craftsmanship at its very best. The kitchen is well stocked for cooking and baking, and the open floor plan allows you to be part of the action while you create. The main house has three bedrooms. The master bedroom has a king-size bed, a walk through closest for stowing your stowables, and a two-headed shower to refresh you after your day of fun. Downstairs are two more bedrooms, one with a queen bed, and the other with twin-size bunk beds. The main level shower was designed after a Japanese shower room - large enough for multiples, with a deep soaking tub and showering area all in this same room. Feel free to let you kids splash until their splashers are tired, as this entire room was designed to get wet. This home was just completed and is now ready for you and your friends and family to relax at the beach.

While staying at the Kingfisher, you will experience this wonderful beach location with the comfort and privacy rarely experienced on beach property. Walk 200 yards south down the beach and you will be exploring over a mile of undeveloped, protected beach and tidelands. On any given walk, you and your friends and family will be sharing this space with kingfishers, eagles, osprey, seals, otters, and all of the tide-pool critters that live in the shallows of the Puget Sound. Keep your eyes on the water while you are cooking dinner or sitting on the deck and you might also see the porpoises patrol the beach. Please note that during the salmon run you can put on your hip-waders, secure a buzz bomb to you favorite pole, and cast with abandon. It is a well-kept, local secret that this beach yields some of the best salmon fishing on the island. If you have kayaks, bring them along, a quick shove off from your beach will have you exploring some of the most beautiful coastline on South Whidbey.

The house has WiFi, a flat-screen with DVD player, and is the perfect place to sit by the fire and watch the game. The deck has adirondack chairs to lounge in, and a charcoal grill at the ready so that you can feed the loungers.

I guess the big rule for the house is to have fun - lots of it! My main, humble asking is that you treat our family home with respect. We love this place! The home was built so that your family and mine can enjoy the beach for years to come.

Thank you so much for your interest and please enjoy the beach.

About Andy Holloway

Thank you for your interest in our home. My wife Maggie and I, and our two young daughters, live in Germany. Maggie is a Department of Defense educator, teaching art to U.S. military kids, and I manage the house, both here in Bavaria and on Whidbey. Construction of the Kingfisher was finished in August, 2014. We are excited to have created a place for you to come while we are abroad, and for us to spend time while on our summer breaks. Enjoy your stay, and when you do, please report back to us. We love hearing all about your adventures on what I feel is the best beach on Whidbey.

Andy Holloway purchased this house in 2014

Why Andy Holloway chose Whidbey Island

The Kingfisher was built with you in mind. From our first meeting with the architect, we constructed this house to be the perfect space for people to come and build memories at the beach. This is a luxury, one-of-a-kind home, where you, your family, and your beloved dog, can come explore the best of what the Puget Sound has to offer.

What makes this house unique

The Olympic Mountains and shipping lanes feel like they are part of this home, and falling asleep to the gentle lapping of water redefines relaxing. Don't take our word for it, come and see for yourself. You are always welcome!

We enjoyed beautiful sunsets right from the living room, roaming the beach and going to sleep and waking up to ocean waves. Andy was very helpful and gracious!

We loved the Kingfisher!

  • 5 of 5

We had the best few days at the Kingfisher! The house was absolutely amazing with views you could easily stare out at all day. We spent our mornings walking on the beach with our dog collecting beautiful rocks. The highlights of our trip were cooking in the well stocked dream kitchen and having a bonfire on the beach one night. We will definitely be back! Thanks Andy!

Magnificent Contemporary Beach House

  • 5 of 5

We could have stayed forever! From the moment we walked through the door to see the soaring windows on the ocean....WOW. We loved the contemporary clean lines of this home and the simplicity of the decor. It was uncluttered and serene allowing the views of both the ocean and mountains to set the stage. The home is very clean and well cared for by Andy, who was such a pleasure to work with! Our Aussie, Ace, loved running on the beach and meeting the neighbors dogs! We experienced a wind and rain storm while there but even with all the glass In the house (which we loved) felt comfortable and secure. The home is located in a quiet beach community at the end of a road, but just a short drive to the vibrant town of Langley....great restaurants, galleries, wine bar and walking trail. We hope to return in the summer and stay 2 weeks with our dog and continue to explore the island.

Thanks Andy for sharing this gem......and allowing our dog to be part of this fun experience!

Island perfection

  • 5 of 5

The Kingfisher house was perfect for our family and dogs. It was modern and every location in the house from the windows had a beach view. It was fun to sit on the deck and watch the sunsets along with shipping lane traffic. It was great to walk every morning on beach with the dogs and to come to the point where Mt Rainier pops out at you. The beds were very comfortable with wonderful linens and the house and kitchen is well stocked. There are personal touches too - local coffee and shampoo and soaps from island vendors. The place is just magical.

Best place to stay on Whidbey!

  • 5 of 5

The Kingfisher beach house is an architecturally stunning place to stay right on the beach. The location near the end of the road offers privacy, peace and quiet. Our stay here was truly the highlight of our trip.
