Sit on the covered front porch of the cabin in either of 2 rocking chairs or the porch swing and listen to the water trickling through the goldfish pond and the birds chirping or the rustling of leaves as the mountain breezes meander through the forest. In the evening, enjoy a bonfire in the firepit by the pond, and during the day you can enjoy a meal in the great outdoors by the firepit.
Inside this cozy cabin are a kitchen equipped with all standard appliances except a dishwasher, a dining table for 2, a living room with a TV and DVD Player, a bathroom with a shower, and upstairs is a bedroom with queen-sized bed.
The Great Escape is located off of Hwy 421 just 20 miles northwest of Boone, so it is just a short drive to many local attractions. Recommend four wheel drive or all wheel drive in the winter. Last half mile is uphill a private gravel driveway.
We're a family of six with four kids who love the Great Escape - ages 10, 6, 4 and 1. We've always enjoyed the outdoors and the mountains. We rented the property in early 2014 and after a great weekend, decided to try to purchase it.
As former military members, my wife and i are happy to offer an 5% discount to Active Duty Military personnel. We also offer returning guests an 5% discount off of list price.
Gordie purchased this cabin in 2014
Spectacular views and chance to escape the city. It's very private and quiet with no other houses in sight. We wanted to have a place where our three children could tramp around and explore while we could relax with extraordinary views.
The home was outstanding. The only thing missing was the instructions for the heaters but we figured it out. Would definitely stay there again. Privacy, great views, and always prompt responses from the owner. 5 Stars!
We absolutely loved spending a long weekend at this mountain home with our family and friends. Our children were so sad to leave. Gordie was very helpful through the entire process of renting, and any questions my husband had were readily answered. It was everything that we imagined it would be and more. We can't wait to come back again!! Thanks again for allowing us to rent your beautiful home!
Love, Love, Love this cabin!!! The view was just amazing! Words can't describe the location of this cabin. We had an amazing time with family and friends! It was so nice to be away from city life and enjoy nature. Cabin was clean and cozy! Owner was very helpful and responded quickly any of our questions. I would defiantly come back!!
We spent 4 nights while setting-up, hosting, and tearing-down our oldest child's wedding at a nearby venue. Unfortunately we didn't get to use the hot tub, play games downstairs, or even do any hiking...BUT...the house (and guesthouse) were a fantastic place to relax at the end of a long day and even better to sip a cup of coffee and watch the sun burn off the morning fog in the valley below. The house is clean and updated. Everything worked well, just an extremely satisfying experience. As clearly described, the location is remote, but we think this adds to the charm. The owner, Gordie, was prompt and courteous in his e-mail replies and he supplied plenty of information and contact numbers to address any potential issue that could have arisen. The next time we're looking for a place in the Boone area, we will certainly check to see if Great Escape is available.
This is a great property with many amenities that fit the Mountain vacation theme. After hiking the property or surrounding area you can relax in the hot tub or by the fire pit. There is a pond, ball field, lacrosse goals and fort for kids and kids at heart. Views are incredible and good fishing near by.
We spent a week at the Great Escape - beautiful property with acres on which to roam. The house was roomy and comfortable with amazing views of the valley no matter the time of day. The unlimited firewood was a convenience and we spent each nite enjoying the sunset and after dark we took to enjoying the stars by the fire. Having no "human" sounds from traffic, planes or the like was wonderful!!
The house was set up well to provide all the things we needed to cook and serve meals for all. Gordie replied quickly to all questions we had and was great to work with. And having linens provided made the visit even easier. If we're going to be in this area again, we'd definitely re-visit the Great Escape.
