Space 4,200 sq. ft.
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 3 - 5 nights

About the property

Main House (6 Bedrooms 4 Bath Sleeps 16) + Guest Cabin (1 Bed 1 Bath Sleeps 2)

The Great Escape is a spectacular, newly renovated mountain property that was built for privacy, relaxation and the enjoyment of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The spacious three level cabin with 6 bedrooms and two master bedrooms is located at 3,900 feet at the center/top of a private mountain spanning 106 acres which boasts spectacular westward views of meadows, mountains, and valleys. There is a guest cabin 100 yards from the main house that can be rented for $85-$100 per night. The guest cabin includes the 7th bedroom and 5th bathroom. We can host larger events such as weddings, but charge additional fees and need to discuss on a case by case basis.

30 minutes north of Boone, 20 minutes from Mountain City. Last half mile uphill on a private gravel driveway. Four wheel drive required in winter. We have had guests bring trailers with bikes/motorcycles up the driveway without any issues, however less experienced motor cycle riders might not be comfortable with the gravel/pitch of drive. There are gas stations/convenience stores 5-10 minutes away, but the closest full service grocery stores are in Boone and Mountain City which are 30 and 20 mins, away respectively.

Key Amenities:

Main House: Six bedrooms/four baths in main house. This includes two master bedrooms. The primary master has a fireplace and a private deck with view.

There are two upstairs bedrooms with queens that share a bathroom.

In addition there are two "kids" rooms on the lower level that share a bathroom. These bedrooms have two bunk beds in each, however there is a full size bottom bunk in each room if you need more room for adults.

Sonos music in the dining room, living room, upstairs master, downstairs rec room and deck. Makes it easy to stream your favorite music.

Two large TV areas with L-shaped couches. The one on the lower level is perfect for kids.

Large dining room table seats 14.

Guest Cabin: 1 bedroom, w bath, kitchenette and sitting room (rents for an additional $85-$100 per night). The guest cabin is approximately 100 yards from the main house. Great for grandparents, adult children who appreciate a little quiet. We never rent the guest separately, so you will have complete privacy if you don't end up renting the guest cabin also.

WOW... We LOVE Great Escape!!!

  • 5 of 5

Visited with 2 families (4 adults and 8 kids). Rough conditions (cold and icy/snowy) hampered our travel out and about and could have served as an obstacle but instead allowed us to stay in, relax, and fully enjoy this winter wonderland. The kids were thrilled with the outside firepit, hot tub, foosball, basement TV/movie setup, and bunk beds. Adults loved the huge dining table, fireplace, upstairs TV and sound system, and perfectly appointed bed rooms. We played games, cooked/ate amazing meals, cheered on our favorite sports teams, played in the tree fort, hiked and slid down the hills, watched deer playing in the snow from the windows, and made life-long memories. Couldn't ask for more. Perfect weekend bonding with family and best friends. Thank you!!!

Amazing cabin on beautiful property with spectacular views!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our week at Great Escape! The cabin was perfect! Very spacious for multi family vacations. Beautiful open living and dining area with amazing views! Property was also beautiful! While we (Floridians) were there, it snowed! The thin blanket of snow covering the property was gorgeous! The owner, Gordie was always quick to response to any and all questions. On arrival the cabin was very neat and clean! The grounds keeper, Jason was warm and friendly and responded very quickly! We had a wonderful time at the Great Escape! Thank you for sharing your cabin with us! Can't wait to plan our next visit!

The home was so inviting. With it's easy, refined charm and spacious rooms it was easy to relax and unwind. The home has been impeccably maintained and was the cleanest rental we have ever stayed in. We spent hours hiking and enjoying the property.

Awesome 4 days!!

  • 5 of 5

This property is truly amazing. The house is well suited for big families who want to be together and have their own space. We had big beautiful skies to watch a meteor shower, plenty of firewood for chilly nights, and majestic views in all directions. The property is so big and quiet that you can explore all the nature without humanity bothering. The property was well kept and keepers helped out with no complaint. The side cabin was a treat and we ran out of time to explore all 100 acres. Our family of 15ish people all are ready to book again as soon as we can. Can't thank Gordie and his family for sharing their slice of heaven with our family.

WOW! Memory Maker Alert!

  • 5 of 5

This place is DOPE! I can see why the Vap family fell in love with this home. My whole family said , " we need to buy this place!" The view is surreal. We were impressed with the cleanliness and quality of goods, from the towels to the utilities. There was plenty of firewood and propane provided. The path around the property was mowed an maintained. The new master suit is AMAZING! with a fantastic view, french doors that open to a balcony, and a double walk in shower. The beds are all comfortable and the kitchen has everything you could need. We had a group of 14, 6 of which were kids 7-12 years old. The kids never ran out of things to do and absolutely loved the tree house, Foosball table, and Netflix (we got a kick out of the fireplace sign). The music system is really cool and could connect via blue tooth that then could be volume controlled in each room. We also liked the walk up the hill for an additional fantastic view of the mountains. As previous reviews have said the drive can be a challenge if it rains but was not a problem in our midsize car. This is a secluded property and by the time we got to the end of the road we thought we had gone the wrong way. However, once we saw the gate and headed up the drive our faith was restored. Our mouths dropped and hearts jumped as we discovered all this property had to offer. You can feel the love of the house; a true great escape (with WiFi). We would love to come back!

About Gordie

We're a family of six with four kids who love the Great Escape - ages 11, 7, 5 and 1. We've always enjoyed the outdoors and the mountains. We rented the property in early 2014 and after a great weekend, decided to try to purchase it.

We have renovated the main house and are adding three bedrooms and substantial living space in the spring of 2017. the renovation will be completed this May. We would be happy to provide more details over the phone regarding the amenities we are adding.

As former military members, my wife and i are happy to offer an 5% discount to Active Duty Military personnel. We also offer returning guests an 5% discount off of list price.

Gordie purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Gordie chose Zionville

Spectacular views and chance to escape the city. It's very private and quiet with no other houses in sight. We wanted to have a place where our tfour children could tramp around and explore while we could relax with extraordinary views.

What makes this cabin unique

Very, very quiet, and very very private. Our recent upgrades have transformed a great piece of mountain property into a premium mountain escape.

Plenty of room for several families. Two master bedrooms and four additional guest rooms. Huge dining room table that seats 14. Plenty of seating areas on first two floors.
