Maya Cala is located in the middle of a jungle and an amazing fresh water lake

The jewel in the jungle

When you you reserve the Casa it includes the lake side portion of the Great Room

Mayacala, built in 2010, is on a bluff overlooking pristine Laguna Bacalar in a secure gated community. This is a tropical paradise with warm crystal clear water surrounded by lush jungle vegetation with many birds including Toucans and parrots; exotic butterflies and monkeys in their natural habitat. The moment you step from the car you are in another world, the jungle comes alive and serenades you. Each room in the villa has a wonderful view and you can dine, relax or shower in the jungle. Mayacala is comfortable and elegant with tasteful, practical furnishings. The villa has Wi-Fi, Sat. TV and A/C.

The casa kitchen and living space are an open concept. with large sliding glass doors overlooking the lake that open onto the Terrace. There is a living area you can relax with TV. Fully equipped kitchen and island, stools for eating, 1.5 bathrooms. The master bedroom with a queen bed has large sliding glass doors and bath/shower overlooking the lake. There is a small bedroom with a single bed off the kitchen. The Casa opens on to the Great room that is a perfect for social gatherings with a dining table that seats eight, a queen futon if an extra bed is needed.

Maya Cala is located in the middle of a jungle and a lagoon, making for an ideal setting for a variety of endemic plants and many animals, including a large number of birds.

A Tropical Paradise! The Villa is privileged because of it's amazing setting, on it's own private cove with the surrounding jungle and our close proximity to the ocean, either to the huge Bay of Chetumal and the beaches of fine white sand and turquoise water in Mahahual, from where you can reach the spectacular Chinchorro Reef, an underwater marvel.

Laguna Bacalar is the second largest fresh-water lake in all of Mexico. Over 50 kilometres long one side is forested by palms and various hardwoods while the other side is a beautiful wild mangrove marsh. It is fed by fresh water springs from the cenotes and is so clear and clean that it is a fabulous turquoise colour in the shallower areas with different shades of blue arising where the depth is greater. It is known as the 'The lake of Seven Colours'

For more information about the lake visit the Laguna Bacalar Institute and learn more about this jewel in the jungle.

An absolutely beautiful location on Lake Bacalar!

  • 4 of 5

Very quiet and private. I enjoyed waking to the birds calling throughout the jungle. The absolute mirror image of the large heron fishing at the waters edge and the groups of parrots flying over were a wonderful sight! Maya Cala was a special find for my family get away! We all enjoyed the Blue Shower! What a view! We are very curious as to what the big creature was that we saw making belly rolls offshore! Could it have been tarpon? Went in search with the kayaks, but the mystery was left unsolved~:-)

Excellent property in an even better location

  • 5 of 5

This was our first visit to Bacalar, it is trully an amazing place. If you are looking for a secluded lakefront property where you can feel like you are part of nature, this is the place. We spent 4 days in Sally´s house and it was an incredible experience, although being in a gated community it feels like you are totally by yourself and we never saw anyone else in the lagoon during our vacation. The house has a couple of Kayaks that our kids loved, feeling like explorers researching all over the lake, they went by themselves and decided where to unload to snorkel around. The town of Bacalar is a 15 to 20 min drive from the house and Chetumal´s airport is about 50 minutes, but you should rent a car or you won´t be able to move around the area. If you come make sure to make a whole day trip to Mahahual, an amazing beach town with a very interesting vibe just 50 minutes from the house in the opposite direction from Bacalar, we had an incredible meal and day in Beach club www.nacionalbeachclub.com, the chef is a definite grill master, you have to try the octopus! It is really a must see place on your visit here.

In a few words, if you want to feel what is like to be immersed in nature, spend a few days in a jungle paradise with a tranquil lagoon at your disposal, this is your place, you won´t be dissapointed!

Tolles Haus am See

  • 4 of 5

Urlaub am See

  • 4 of 5

(http://www.activenaturebacalar.com/)

Is Maya Cala part of a development?

Casas La Fe is the development that Mayacala is located in. There are 72 lots in the community but few are developed so you are quite secluded. Casas La Fe is known locally as Wildlife Lagoon.

This is an ecologically protected area and the entire development of Casas La Fe is strictly controlled by a set of guidelines from the Mexican government agency SEMARNAT. Hence we ask that you too do your best to preserve the environment here on Laguna Bacalar. Please do not put any harsh chemicals down the sinks or toilets and please use environmentally safe sunscreens and bug sprays.

Even though Mayacala is in the jungle we have 24 hour electricity and the access road is in excellent condition. Our water is from a good sweet well but we provide drinking water. All of our ceilings are concrete.
