Overview

About the property

Classic Waterfront Home, Private Beach, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps up to 6)

This is a wonderful place to get away from the hectic world! A Magnificent View, a Private Beach, a nice yard, eagles, and marine wildlife. Bring your binoculars!

Our comfortable waterfront Orcas home is located at the end of a private road on 7 acres, on the east side of the island, roughly midpoint between Point Lawrence and Doe Bay.

The property commands a magnificent, sweeping view of Rosario Strait, Cypress, Sinclair and Blakely Islands, the Peapod Rocks, and the Cascade Mountains. It's a wonderful big sky and big water view that captivates. Please see my website for pictures.

We offer you a very private, peaceful spot to spend time with friends and family. The sounds are seagulls, changing tides, and the wind in the trees. And, from the house, yard, and your own private beach, you can enjoy passing boats and marine life. Sea lions, otters, orca whales, deer, bald eagles, and seabirds of all kinds abound.

In warm weather a picnic table, lawn chairs and barbeque are put out. Because of a southerly exposure, the yard is a great place for soaking up the sun and dining outdoors.

In the winter months, a cozy fire and a good book will provide welcome relaxation while you watch the changing maritime scenery.

Guests who visit our house take away fond memories...like a full moon rising over the Cascades, a bald eagle landing right out front in our largest tree, a salmon doing a tail dance across the water...or the ultimate: a pod of whales on parade 75 yards offshore. And, no one forgets our view and the peacefulness.

We have been renting the house for happy vacations for thirty years. Over the years, many couples and families have returned to enjoy this wonderful place.

About Melinda McGee

I grew up in the South and was blown away by the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest.

Melinda McGee purchased this house in 1986

Why Melinda McGee chose Orcas Island

I fell in love with this place the first moment I walked into the yard. It has an amazingly open captivating view of the water and a private beach in a very private location. The house is very sweet and comfortable. I bought this property with the intention to eventually retire there. I am now living in California and will eventually sell this property to another family to enjoy. Please let me know if you would like to move to Orcas Island.

What makes this house unique

For the past thirty years many families and couples have had relaxing and wonderful times here watching the wildlife, especially the bald eagles. Getting away from the hectic, technology driven lives and refreshing and rebooting in nature.

Magnificent view and comfortable house in a very quiet setting.

  • 5 of 5

Owner was very helpful and easy to work with. House is lacking nothing and is set up nicely to take in the wonderful view. Nice and quiet setting with plenty to explore in the area. Beach access is dependent on tides and requires a little rock hopping. Fun tide pools when the tide is low, and also a secluded pebbly beach.

Simple accomodations. Perfect setting

  • 5 of 5

An excellent place to witness the power of a winter storm, watching the eagles soar, sipping coffee and reading a good book. Limited, but excellent options for dining in town.

Loved It!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay. Very private location, beautiful view and so quiet. The owner Melinda was wonderful. We decided on a whim to get out of town so we were booking the house on the road while she was in Japan!

Doe Bay

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at this Doe Bay home. It was perfect for our family of Grandpa, Grandma, son, wife and 2 year old. The view of the bay is just gorgeous anytime of the day or night! The fenced grassy yard was perfect for our little one, and the walk down the great stairs to the private beach was awesome.

It was so peaceful at the end of the road - we all thought it the best sleep ever! Melinda has thought of everything to make for such a comfortable week, with an extensively supplied kitchen, beautiful dining area and large living room. The location was a short drive to Moran State Park, an oyster farm, kayaking and plenty of hiking! We'd sure love to come back!!

Beautiful views / Wonderful family memories

  • 5 of 5

This was our first experience renting a house on Orcas Island and we weren't sure what to expect. When we arrived on April 5, 2016 we were very pleasantly surprised by the wonderful water views from this house. The pictures from the Home Away website don't even do it justice! The house and property were cozy and inviting and we were in awe of the large windows looking out to the picturesque views from the living room, dining room and kitchen. Our kids (10, 6 & 4) really enjoyed playing in the yard while my wife and I relaxed. The room layout was perfect for our family of five. Our two sons really enjoyed staying in the 2nd bedroom (two beds) and our 4 year old daughter loved staying in the master bedroom with my wife and I (two beds in the master). The house was clean and had all the necessary bathroom towels/floormats and the kitchen had plenty of pots/pans/utensils etc... The living room, dining room and kitchen all felt very open (partly due to the layout and partly due to the large windows in each of these areas). With children, I will say that you do have to be cautious when walking down to the water from the stairs off the yard. Not an issue if you are being a watchful parent. The property was about 25 + minutes from the main town (Eastsound, WA) on the island, which made the house feel quiet and secluded. Our family would enjoy the waterfront in the late morning, explore the island during the day, then relax together at the house for a quiet evening. We spent three wonderful nights at this house and we were all sad to have to leave and come back to our regular lives. Our kids immediately asked when we would be able to return for another stay! The owner (Melinda) was helpful with information and quick to answer questions we had before our arrival, which made the experience much easier for us.

We were very happy that Melinda allowed us to create spectacular memories at her house for our children!

A slice of heaven.

  • 5 of 5

As the description says, it is at the end of the road. Though there are neighbors, the cottage is very remote. We, my husband, my daughters aged 11 & 13 and my mom-in-law were all quite taken with the idea of 'nothing & everything to do' at the same time. The cottage was very well equipped and accommodated our needs. We played cards, put together puzzles and became totally obsessed with looking for eagles and Orcas. We spotted the local Eagles but unfortunately we're not visited by Orcas. We had sunshine most of the time. Even the occasional marine layer did not put a damper on our get away. The cottage is clean, has a nice layout and has comfortable beds. If you are looking for a place to hangout inside and out with amazing views of the San Juans and off the beaten path then this is your place. Not to be missed, Melinda was very helpful and communicative.
